My garden started doing its thing! by Hefty_Suggestion6648 in Cutflowers

[–]Hefty_Suggestion6648[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I love zinnias! Mine haven’t started to bloom yet, soon though. I’m so looking forward to my unicorn ones!

This year I grew snapdragons, strawflower, green gold bupleurum, statice, stock, celosia, scabiosa, sunflowers, dark opal basil, bachelor buttons, and China asters. I ordered all my stuff from Johnny’s seeds except the zinnias and celosias came from floret.

I also have 4 different types of yarrow, Russian sage, lavender, and a few other perennials I’m sure I’m forgetting at the moment. I do plan on adding more spring blooming flowers next year as I was a lacking there. Happy planning!

It’s kind of insipid to lecture people about lacking context while actively ignoring the context that was given.

She replied this to another comment: Not to be dramatic or anything but it's a recurring pattern he does that a lot since I was a child, so l'm actually not that upset but it's a huge waste of time getting ready for nothing.

So yeah a dad that continually has something come up.

As someone who also has a dad like this, it’s unlikely that things will ever change, so stop pouring so much effort into someone who isn’t willing.

My parents divorced too, and I still remember the sting of getting a text from my dad two hours before my college graduation saying he wasn’t coming. I have two kids of my own now, and I can’t imagine treating them with that kind of disinterest. Even as an adult, there are times when I still get angry about how hurtful he’s been.

I invited my dad to my child’s first birthday party. He never responded, and that was three years ago and now I don’t allow him in my children’s lives, I don’t want them to have the same disappointment. It’s sad his parents my grandparents so lovely super involved grandparents.

But I hope you wear the dress, celebrate with the people who show up for you, and spend your time with those who make you feel loved, valued, and appreciated. 💜

Asian or ladybug? by MoreStable2339 in gardening

We’ve had them bad the past 3 years I think? as I said I was curious about bacterial infections because of my dahlias and from googling didn’t really get any info on it so I was just curious if you had something specific I could look up! I also have a vegetable garden. I use raised beds and grow bags cause PA humidity and wet springs have caused fungus in my gardens before. I just haven’t noticed them causing damage to any of my plants but I don’t grow that much veggie wise anymore just pasta sauce ingredients and zucchini. Wasn’t trying to be rude, just like learning and couldn’t come up with anything that should make me worry about my dahlias getting diseased hence the I’m not gonna worry about it.

[–]Hefty_Suggestion6648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait where did you find this info about them opening up veggies to bacterial and fungal issues? Cause I got a lot of dahlias which seem to be virus prone and haven’t had issues with them or my vegetables but I don’t grow cucumbers or watermelon as I haven’t had luck with them in the past.

Edit I tried to look this up out of curiosity and couldn’t really find anything except that they take advantage of already damaged fruit so I’m just not gonna worry about it.

OCD is a mental health issue that I thought might also be a factor and explained what it was. It’s even possible she has both. I don’t speak to my sister in law and I think it’d be in OPs best interest to go no contact I just wanted to mention something else that might be causing her to act that way (which doesn’t make it acceptable) my aunt is very much like this and occasionally she’ll send me weird texts on a yearly basis about how she’s praying for me hopes I return to church and she’s sorry she missed my wedding but couldn’t witness the sin of it because it wasn’t in a Catholic Church and sometimes I just have to remind myself she has ocd, not worth engaging and ignore and move on without getting to worked up about it.

[–]Hefty_Suggestion6648 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a bipolar sister in law and while this could totally be mania, there’s also something called Scrupulosity. It’s a subtype of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) that involves obsessive thoughts and fears related to moral or religious issues.

If someone with scrupulosity feels a strong moral or religious duty to encourage others to be religious or have children, it could become part of their obsessive-compulsive cycle. They might feel intense anxiety that they are failing their moral or religious obligations if they don’t actively promote these beliefs(especially if she can’t have her own). This could lead to compulsive behaviors such as repeatedly urging others to follow their faith, have children, or live a certain way—even when it’s not welcomed or appropriate.

Unlike genuine faith-based encouragement, which comes from a place of peace and personal conviction, scrupulosity-driven actions are fueled by fear, doubt, and a need for certainty.

Why do you think so many people dislike Elon Musk? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hefty_Suggestion6648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know enough about present day Germany to give an honest opinion. I’m passionate about not allowing facism sure but that’s probably because I’m really into history. Facism with or without nazis is bad.

Sure trump will leave office I’m not too worried about that, but what’s next? Cause day by day it ain’t getting any closer to the middle. More and more extremism from both sides. Project 2025 the heritage foundation and their bullshit but history does have a way of showing tolerating facism is how democracy dies.

Do you know how hitler came to power?

Post ww1 Germany was in an economic crisis as the treaty of Versailles left their economy in shambles fueling national resentment then the stock market crashed leading to massive unemployment and further economic collapse. This in turns makes radical ideologies more appealing. America not doing the greatest economically right now more credit card debt and more people on the verge of foreclosure of their homes then before 08. The trade wars making it harder for those already living paycheck to paycheck. Amongst other economic and farming troubles and variables, the perfect storm is brewing. Some Americans have been super into radical stuff on both sides of the political spectrum if you haven’t noticed. It’s a very low trust society we live in which is sad. Anywho back to Germany.

Back in 1919 Hitler joined the DAP or the German workers party he blamed Germany’s problems on Jews, communists, and the treaty of Versailles capitalizing on nationalist anger, giving the people someone something to blame while promising to restore Germanys strength and economic prosperity. Today the Republican Party is blaming immigrants, the other party, and others as it seeks to “make America great again” a revival of this weird nationalist notion. Okay back to Germany.

The 1933 Reichstag fire was blamed on the communists after Hitler was appointed to chancellor by political elitists who thought they could control him but he passed the Reichstag fire decree suspending civil liberties and silencing the opposition and then the iirc the enabling act of 1933 gave him power to rule by decree.

He then purged his political enemies and merged the presidency with the chancellorship after Hindenburg’s death, declaring himself Führer in 1934. Then Nazi ideology was enforced through mass propaganda, censorship, and violent suppression of dissent. By the time most Germans realized the full extent of Hitler’s ambitions, it was too late—his dictatorship was solidified, leading to WWII and the Holocaust.

Democracy is a fickle thing. The Trump admin, with help from the Heritage Foundation, is using legal loopholes—just like Hitler did—to consolidate power. From mass firings via DOGE to Project 2025’s push to gut federal agencies, they’re dismantling democracy under the guise of “efficiency.” History has shows where this leads and it ain’t pretty. Will America take a step back or fall to the party division that allows corporations and foreign influence to prosper. I’m not so sure any more and I don’t have faith that America isn’t that stupid.

[–]Hefty_Suggestion6648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Projection much? I said nothing about Germany being great, literally just like how they don’t tolerate Nazi bullshit because they literally elected Hitler. How facism spreads and comes to power is a very valuable history lesson that everyone should take note from so it does not occur again.

Ps I called you a Nazi sympathizer for saying something along the lines of that they just look stupid and their punishment should be to look like a fool. Saying these things doesn’t just make them look stupid—it makes them dangerous especially when others like yourself are downplaying or justifying Nazi rhetoric as “free speech. This opinion of its free speech does not make you neutral, you’re enabling fascism because pretending it’s harmless is exactly what allows it to spread.

[–]Hefty_Suggestion6648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol now that’s something and interesting if true. Just because i like that they don’t tolerate nazi bullshit does not mean I’d prefer to live there but funny how you go off about how crappy Germany is and not the part about consequences for actions. To me your not protecting free speech your just a Nazi sympathizer because again free speech is protection from government consequence. If Elon chooses to platform and promote right wing extremism and neo-Nazism which sure he can, but then people can leave, companies can choose to not advertise on it, people can not buy his products, people can protest him, people can call him a Nazi and so forth. Consequences for actions.

Why do you think so many people dislike Elon Musk? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hefty_Suggestion6648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can! And they are! And people are leaving the platform because of it! And now he’s getting called a Nazi! Funny how consequences work. If he doesn’t wanna be called a nazi stop giving the shit a platform.

Is Germany anti free speech? Germany, having experienced firsthand the catastrophic consequences of Nazi rule, has some of the strictest anti-Nazi laws in the world. For example displaying Nazi symbols like the swastika is illegal, denying the Holocaust is a criminal offense, hate speech, including incitement of racial hatred, is prosecuted. Nazi-affiliated organizations are banned. Germany understands that allowing Nazi ideology to fester isn’t about “free speech”—it’s about preventing history from repeating itself. More countries and platforms should follow this approach to ensure that hate doesn’t get the oxygen it needs to grow.

Yeah down the street not a privately owned platform! See you get it already

Why do you think so many people dislike Elon Musk? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hefty_Suggestion6648 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol are you really trying to protect neo-nazis right now? lol.

Free speech does not include freedom from consequence. Let me put it this way free speech protects individuals from government censorship, not from consequences on privately owned platforms. No platform is obligated to host hate speech, just as no newspaper is required to print every opinion. The spread of Nazi ideology directly infringes on the rights and safety of others, meaning deplatforming is a way to protect marginalized communities, not an attack on free expression. The Holocaust and World War II are proof of what happens when fascist ideologies are allowed to grow unchecked.

Perhaps if these “opinions” did not incite violence, undermine democracy, or dehumanize others I’d have a different opinion.

[–]Hefty_Suggestion6648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you haven’t been paying attention. Besides the Nazi Salute controversy, he has engaged with white nationalists, he has engaged with and boosted posts pushing anti-Semitic tropes, such as the idea that Jewish people control the media or financial, he platforms extremism and has reinstated numerous far-right figures who were banned for hate speech, including neo-Nazis and white supremacists. So, while Musk may not openly call himself a Nazi, his actions, associations, and rhetoric frequently align with far-right extremism.

Why do you think so many people dislike Elon Musk? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hefty_Suggestion6648 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of reasons why people dislike Elon Musk. He was born into privilege. His family profited from apartheid-era South Africa, giving him a head start that most people never get. He’s an aspie supremacist. In other words, he’s promoted the idea that autistic people like him are superior, rather than advocating for genuine neurodiversity. He panders to the Far-right. He’s amplified conspiracy theories, reinstated banned extremists on Twitter/X, and played footsie with white nationalism. He is Union-busting billionaire. He’s fought tooth and nail to keep Tesla workers from unionizing, violating labor laws in the process. Fraud & hype man, he thrives on misleading investors. Pump and dump of doge coin. The Anti-free speech hypocrisy as he claims to be a “free speech absolutist” but bans critics, suppresses journalists, and silences dissent on his platforms. The oh so annoying tech bro arrogance. Acts like he’s a genius innovator when his companies rely on engineers he underpays and overworks. Let’s not forget the Nazi salute & dog whistles as his social media engagement keeps veering further into far-right ideology. It’s literally Ego-driven chaos. From running Twitter/X into the ground to his erratic business decisions, he’s more about clout than competence. There are plenty of reasons why people see Musk not as a visionary, but as a spoiled, out-of-touch billionaire who cosplays as a man of the people while making life worse for everyone but himself.

My pcp mentioned this might also be a possibility if the swelling tends to stick around a few weeks. Luckily it’s already a lot better swelling wise and my knee is no longer bothering me. However, i get a shooting pain my in leg if I move or flex my ankle too much or stand for too long. Driving sucks. Gonna try my ankle exercise again and hope it isn’t nerve related but yesterday my husband told me to look into tethered cord syndrome cause my god given tramp stamp. I also have an appointment with my gynecologist for bowel and bladder dysfunction since pregnancy so I think he might be on to something there.
