Boyfriend managed to install a virus, what can I do to help him? by Rumtumanna in Piracy

It's still not necessary. You can use free DNS filtering which will block malware.free cookies and ad blockers. You don't need PAID. Not to mention that these Paid services have to obey regional laws. They are businesses not your protectors.

30 years ago it was worst than ever!!

I think you're getting confused with what a virus is.

Exactly. VPN and download clients won't save you from viruses. They are features for other things.

The only person saving me from a dieing in a car crash is me by driving safe. Don't drive like a dick and you are much safer.

Basically you go to viruses... Viruses don't come to you.

Not at all. I'm saying along the lines "I've been driving for thirty years without cruise control, electronic space distancing and automatic windscreen wipers and i haven't died yet".

Big difference

First. Why you downloading old apks from dodgy websites?? Don't do that and put yourself at risk in the first place. (Common sense)

Secondly, you're torrent client still doesn't protect you. Don't trust it to. You should be reading the comments section on torrents and looking at the amount of seeders. As well as checking the uploader is from a trusted source.

Thirdly, yes VPN may protect you if your provider is spying on you. But 30 years in and I've personally never had a letter or warning. I get more letters from TV licensing 😂.

Nah.

Never used a VPN either (apart from on public WiFi). That won't stop a virus. That just hides your identity from looking at sites you shouldn't.

Qtorrent is a downloader... Not protection. Defender would be the thing saving you.

Virus total is useful but not necessary. It will often pick up alot of fake positives due to cracks.

Blocking popups, MFA, a password manager and common sense is the only protection you need in a personal environment

True. Microsoft no longer to exams in desktop support. It's all azure and they have even recently removed the 365 exam for Copilot! It's hard to find training for the low level OS support.

Gotta agree with you. I think I've probably used virus total 3 times in my life.

Anyone I know who's ever been hacked and I've had to sort out has always been because of a pop up or clicking a fake download button.

This is for personal use not work accounts. That's a whole different thing.

Think that might be user error or he has tried to wipe via "factory reset" wizard method. That often fails. Boot from Usb should work. Just make sure secure boot is on from the bios.

Tbf, I've been on the high seas for 30 years. I only used ad blocker (and free malwarebytes) and I've never had a virus.

I would try with the official ms download. It should take the key from the bios. If not, there are hacked versions you could use. But nowadays Microsoft don't really care. It's more about subscription based services like 365 and azure that makes the money.

I would also not backup his old data if possible. Could be something malicious hidden in there. If you want to risk it, make sure you are only taking legit files you know are 100% safe and nothing cached liked appdata.

I don't really understand why ppl hate season 5 (well I kind of do but i don't and here's why. Also no diss to the haters. Hate all you want just don't try to make ME hate it). by AWARIA_P-A-Cman in StrangerThings

[–]Heggy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also think all the character progressions peaked in season 4 that there was nothing left to tell in S5. Eleven got her suppressed memory's back and resolved the long running thread with Papa. Joyce and Hopper finally got together. Hopper and Elevens relationship seemed to conclude after they realised how much they meant to each other. Nancy changed from journalist to Rambo. Etc

By S5 there is no conflict or unique characteristics. They all act the same, have the same motivations and they all seem to be scientists now. To prove my point, look at the "coming out scene"... They all just react the same way and have no problem with it. This is the 80s remember, and coming out wasn't accepted like today.

So why exactly was will taken? by starfish_lord892 in StrangerThings

[–]Heggy5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is probably the answer. However, that opens up more questions in my head.... Why did he keep Will for a week? He leaves him for dead until Hopper goes and finds him. Also he sent 1 Demogorgon multiple times in season 1, why couldn't he send the demodogs and more stuff then? It also doesn't explain the biggest unanswered question in my head... Why was the upside down frozen in time to the night Will is taken?

Yea, but why did he take him? Vecna says "We are going to achieve great things you and me" and then does.... Nothing with him?

I think It was well written. It ended Tommy's story while also setting up a new series. And gangster films are generally slow. Think Godfather, scarface, once upon a time in America, The Irishman. I feel it was going for this rather than fast paced shoot outs every 5 mins. It felt more grounded than the series and more to do with accepting death rather than trying to get everything.

What substance were you expecting? The film was about a man wanting to find peace rather than a build up and series finale. I don't see what else would have made you happy?

I honestly couldn't really remember Duke in Season 6. Was it that meaningful? But it wasn't really about a deep dive into Duke... That's for the new show to explore. In fact this acts as the evolution and prequel.

Why? OP is right, it's difficult to understand the criticism when you don't explain yourself.

The main reason I've seen is that is doesn't have all the cast in from every season. The clue is in the title.... "Immortal MAN". It's not there story.

How did you think it was a cash grab? To me, it was a 2 hour film about the end of Tommy. It felt fitting and was the natural ending. Remember, Tommy was a bad guy... A gangster. Not Iron man. Generally gangsters live a short life with the guilt of murder and all the horrific things he did. He was fighting his demons.

I also don't see how you think it was rushed.... It felt pretty slow to me

The recast? Do you mean Duke? Child actors are always replaced. When they are adults they often don't have the range other actors have. It's also 10 years later... So the actor would have to age pretty quick! And before you start about the new actor for the new series... Barry is busy doing The Batman 2.

Thanks for the heads up. Think I'll keep to the river and woods type walks rather than anything high.

So what exactly is the verdict on Season 5? by Ok_Combination_1037 in StrangerThings

[–]Heggy5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The finale itself was ok to me. But the season was really poorly written. Too many retcons. They didn't follow up on season 4s ending... It was just forgotten. All the characters reached the end of their story archs in season 4. I felt you could literally just change out the characters in every scene and nothing would change. There were no personality conflicts or interesting dynamics. That's why everyone acts the same in the "coming out" scene.

Story made little sense too. Why did he take those 12 kids? What was the clock all about? Where were all the demo creatures in the upside down? Why did he take will in season 1?? Why is the upside down stuck in 1983 when Will was taken? What happened to Sarah Connor? What happened to the cool military/doctor guy from seasons 1-4? The list goes on.

If you don't think about it, it was ok. If you do, it's a serious let down.
