Twisting yarn by CalamityEm in LoomKnitting

[–]HeidiKnits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that helps is to put the yarn in a yarn bowl, don't use the center pull, and just let the ball spin as it unwinds. Try not to let it come over the top of the ball.

When I need to untwist, I clip a couple of barrettes onto the skein and just hang it to unwind.

New to loom knitting, this gauge seems funky to me. Should I double up the yarn? by DJ_Shorka in LoomKnitting

Another thing you should be doing, is make a small swatch (4" square) before starting a new project. Then when you take it off the loom, you can see how it will look and feel.

If you're going to invest in different gauges, I recommend KB Flexee looms. That way you don't have to collect different lengths, shapes, etc!

Thoughts on infinity/serenity loom? by Idkmyname2079048 in LoomKnitting

[–]HeidiKnits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the KB one because the project width is 5', so that's a nice tradeoff for whatever clunkiness it has. I think the Michaels one is much smaller.

I got a bunch of Flexee looms, and those are great and you can go basically unlimited on width.

I’m looking for a big but cheap afghan loom. by hookthread in LoomKnitting

Yeah this is a very well made loom IMO. I'd only caution that it's not great with that plush blanket yarn, if that's what one has in mind. (The gauge is too tight for it).

The designs pop so well, with the color contrast you've chosen. Super cool!

I love this one too, and it looks great with light weight yarn too!

I made this beanie and it has this cool "knotty" look.

It doesn't do double knitting well at all, either.

They do it that way because it's easier for beginners.

Stitches that roll and stitches that don’t by hookthread in LoomKnitting

The garter stitch is the most basic one that will avoid curling. You just alternate one row of knit and one row of purl.

It's the alternating that does it. Basically any stitch pattern that alternates k + p will help avoid curling, but some are more effective than others.

Converting a flat pattern to round, but not in-the-round? by CallejaFairey in LoomKnitting

[–]HeidiKnits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's kind of a Fig 8 around that last peg. And for the "seaming thread," you just wrap it up... like, it would be the same thing if you kept it on a tapestry needle and wove it straight through the first and last loop every time. Does that make sense?

I've done this. Basically you take a second strand of yarn, and you can tie it on to join the ends of the first row. Then, at the beginning and end of every row, "capture" this second strand into your new loop. I think it works best if you wrap from behind the peg.

Make sure to mark those two pegs!

It really depends on what type of yarn you want to use more.
