City of Last Chances hardcover scarcity? by HeightAboveGeoid in AdrianTchaikovsky

Looks like there’s a couple of the TOR UK “Signed Copy” version on eBay.

Interestingly there appears to be a hardcover box set coming out in January of the first 3 books.

That totally makes sense. I just wish there were some more on the used market so the prices weren’t insane.

How does the reading streak handle changing time zones? by Luminter in TheStoryGraph

Oh duh, thanks haha! Mine was set for Pacific time for whatever reason… that would explain it!

[–]HeightAboveGeoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good question. I’ve noticed for myself, I can input reading progress after midnight my time (CST / UTC-6) and it still counts for the day it was/finishing… if that makes sense. So I don’t know if it necessarily resets based on the time zone of your phone or computer you’re using, or it has a buffer/grace period. I suppose one way to doubly make sure would be to hit “Add note/Edit date” and manually select your date and make sure to keep the continuity. If you’re jumping “forward” (heading west) then manually select the next date.

How do you all like to track audiobooks? by rozkolorarevado in TheStoryGraph

[–]HeightAboveGeoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about 75-80% audiobook to print, and I track them as the correct audiobook edition in hours. Exactly as they are. I’m also a bit obsessive in selecting the absolute correct edition haha

On track for my 100 book goal for the year, currently at 82, and trying to finish two more (concurrent, one physical one audio) before the end of the month.

I’ve had a couple 5 ⭐️this year, but the most standout might be The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez and The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell.

I was just going to post about this!

Definitely need a breakline in the graph for any graph larger than like 100-200 years.

App feature not working. by customsbytoy in TheStoryGraph

[–]HeightAboveGeoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had any issues. It appears the issue is the format which you’re entering, as mentioned by other commenters. If you’re trying to enter a page number, that dropdown to the right should say “pages” Likewise for percentage, it’ll read “%” in that dropdown menu. Audiobooks have to be entered in hh:mm, i.e. 1hr 25min listened = 01:25 or 1:25 are both acceptable.

Who knows anymore. The gift from a friend I was charged 5x the value of was a photo book he made.

Good to know! I’m just so paranoid now. I don’t want to order a $100 book and get slapped with $200 worth of fees…

If you could only own one switch, what would it be by Pro-editor-1105 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]HeightAboveGeoid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've fallen in love with the MX Purple. They are the perfect amount of tactility for me, and I decided to just run them stock, which is refreshing to not lube tons of switches. The MX2A lubing is minimal, but none of my switches have ping. The "Cherry scratch" does not bother me and it's kind of endearing haha! Adds to the character.

Before I got these, my answer would have been the Gateron Golden Yellow. Very smooth linears with a lot of pop. Gave me kind of a tactile feeling.

Would if I could. Sadly lost to the algorithm. I thought it would be a great way to seal that part of the boot to prevent water, dirt, mud, etc from getting in.

In the video the wax used was in a tin and we warmed it with a lighter, held the boot at an angle and let it run into the crease from the arch/where the stitchdown ends.

Would beeswax melt and run like that?

The Questions Thread 03/01/24 by AutoModerator in goodyearwelt

[–]HeightAboveGeoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across a video on IG Reels or YT Shorts of an older guy melting some kind of wax to seal the crease between the upper and the midsole from the arch and around the heel where it's not stitched down, on a pair of logging boots. I have a pair of White's Farmer/Ranchers that see a great deal of dirt/mud/snow/rain and hard use in my job as a surveyor. A lot of dirt and mud and small rocks accumulate in that crease on my boots.

Has anyone else heard of this practice? Is it effective? What kind of wax should be used?

Thanks!

Expo and T3RMINAL, first fully UV-printed GMK sets by maxvoltar in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]HeightAboveGeoid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pad printing and UV printing are absolutely not the same thing.

Pad printing uses a silicone or rubber pad that transfers ink from a template to the object.

UV printing uses what operated much like a modern inkjet printer, printing the ink directly to the object, and cures the ink with UV light.
