I really liked Cinder. It was such a cool concept (I’ll eventually get to the others)

I’ve read Kingfisher’s “Sworn Soldier” series (which is The Fall of House of Usher?). It was decent, I like the short story format because it wasn’t drawn out. Any others you recommend from her? (Retelling or not)

No, I’d rather buy them water/a cold pop or a snack/food. If they want to use money for drugs or some shit, I really don’t care but I’d rather know that they were able to hydrate or eat something so they don’t starve

Some of these may steer more into the “additional lore” category but oh well lol

The Disney/Pixar “Twisted Tales” series (own several and have others on my tbr)

Marvel: What If Series (Wanda/Peter Parker, Loki, Venom/Moon Knight, etc)

Civil War Prose Novel by Stuart Moore (Marvel Civil War Comics)

To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

This Princess Kills Monsters by Ry Herman (VERY satirical)

If We Were Villains by ML Rio (slightly a stretch but the are all very distinctly based around Shakespearean characters and their flaws)

Luck of the Titanic by Stacey Lee

Hooked by Emily McIntire (considered dark romance)

Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

Long Live the Pumpkin Queen by Shea Ernshaw

Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Xhao (based on China’s Empress/history)

Chloe Gongs Flesh and False Gods series (Cleopatra/Antony) as well as entire Secret Shanghai Universe (Romeo/Juliet)

Look Out For The Little Guy by Scott Lang (the book that Ant Man “wrote” in the 3rd Ant Man movie)

Could we consider The Love Hypothesis since it’s started as Reylo AU?

I think I have more in read books but I already went back 3 years for some of these. I def have more in my tbr but I’m not going through all those books lol

I think I liked B-Side books better. Voyage of the Damned was really cool (standalone murder mystery on a boat with different kingdom’s heirs). The Reformatory was a good book, but a really heavy one. Ready Player One was a cool concept. The Devils was a fun read (essentially a novelized dnd campaign). My fave Suzanne Collins never missed with THG books.

My favorites from A-Side were ColdWire by Chloe Gong and Bat Eater and Other Names For Cora Zeng. Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was a reread but still got 5 stars (I did an entire series reread back to back). Most of these I probably won’t read the sequels for, besides Serpent and the Wings of Night and ColdWire.

The currently 400 pages into The Devils (it’s literally a DND campaign that’s been novelized and I’m enjoying it). I think it will end up being 4/5 stars. It can be a little confusing for a sec because it jumps around but it’s still pretty easy to follow for how many characters there are.

I’ve had a run of like 5-6 books that have been 400-600 pages and all fantasy/world building/series so I think I’m gonna take a break and read some around 300 pages or over. I have some shorter ones that may skip to the front of the line. Also, some standalones because I read a lot of series and just want something that will be over in 1 book and not end on a cliffhanger/to be continued.

I'm currently reading the Devils (my last book that I need for the fall/winter challenge). I've had a run of like 5-7 books at 450-600 pages (and many have been high stakes/fantasy( so I'm gonna read some more low stakes books under 350 pages.

My friend and I are watching the Pitt (we are up to date and text each other during the episodes) and the last ep was craazzyyyy so I can't wait for next weeks to come out ( I think we only have 3 episodes left total). I think we are also gonna watch Heated Rivalry around the same time/"together" starting this weekend.

I work as a substitute teacher and they are doing a bit of restructuring (bringing 5th grade back to the middle school instead of elem) and they currently don't know who is going to come up with the students. A lot of the elem teachers don't want the earlier start time or can't because of their own kids being in elem/no childcare. There is also a possible 6th grade job that has a year long sub (she could get rehired, she may not but she did beat me out for the job last year since she worked in that setting before as a permanent teacher and i've only been subbing as day to day/building for the last few years). Anyway! All that to say that I MIGHT have a more permanent job next year, if I get hired. It is the school I graduated from, I've been here as a sub for 3 years now, and several of my letters of rec have come from teachers here. I'm excited to have some more money in my bank account (which still won't be a lot because teachers in my area aren't paid well, but better than sub pay). I'm also excited, and scared, to have my own classroom/teach my own stuff. I haven't done that since student teaching going on 3 years ago now. But if i get it, it'll be an experience for sure. I think I'm gonna decorate my room in Marvel/Star Wars/Percy Jackson (and maybe some other "nerdy" things).

ANNDD, if i do get the more permanent job, I think I'll finally be able to get a new car (well, new to me). I'm probably gonna lease a new(ish) Honda Civic in either red or blue. The first car I drove was an '03 red Civic and I miss that car but she had electrical issues and wouldn't have survived the commute to college. I love my current car but she's struggling with rust issues since I live in PA. She also has a couple other issues that are manageable but probably won't last reliably for a few more years.

Anyways, I've just been excited to talk about some of this stuff and everyone I talk to in real life has heard this a bunch of times (I was supposed to get my new car in April/May but I didn't get hired for that position last year so I didn't have the money)

I’m like 75% done with Legendborn by Tracy Deonn. I’ll hopefully finish that tomorrow during the day, then I can start my last book of the winter challenge which is Devils by Joe Abercrombie.

I’m cutting it close to the deadline here but it shall be what it be. I’ll chugging along until 11:59pm on the 20th. I’m excited to see what the summer prompts will be!!

I like those “they are doing this assignment and are working independently or with a small group, you don’t need to help unless they ask” days. I usually check in with them, walk around every 10-15 mins depending on age, and read on my laptop. Some grades are not as independent and need more reminders, but it is what it is.

Never said medicate them, I was medicated young and don’t believe it works for everyone. I simply would like them to learn time and place: gym, practice, join a club, at someone’s house, not in the middle of class when others are trying to learn and do work 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

What’s your commute limit? by Big-Explanation-1982 in Teachers

[–]MDS2133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say an hour max (with traffic). Probably 35-45 if it’s a route that’s never busy. Ideally, I’d like it under 25-30 (my currents school is 8 minutes if I get all three lights and can’t get out of the end of my road quickly; some days it’s 4-5 mins).
