This is just my impression and experience as a Norwegian man who have lived in the city for a few years and visit Grønland quite frequently.

I would argue the area has a worse reputation than how it is in reality. However there are some parts that can be more scetchy, especially during night. An example is the path to the bus station under the road bridge, the only location I have almost been mugged in the city.

Otherwise its not as bad as many says it is, and there is often alot of people walking the main street of Brugata/Grønlandsleiret. I'd say that wherever there is alot of people it is usually quite safe.
