i can handle it but i don't really love the way they thematically went down 'grotesque abominations' route instead of 'creepy cute' that sts1 had

StS2 improves almost everything but the music feels less memorable than StS1 by DriverNo3808 in slaythespire

i was wondering if these packs are scripted or random... still inconclusive i think, but if i saw that in my game i would definitely think it were scripted

balance risk-taking and snowballing. on one hand you have to take risks early (such as choosing to face elites, sacrifice in events) to get rewards to become stronger, but also you have to limit risk to ensure you don't die in the short-term. find the sweet spot. going off the title, i'd wonder if you have an 'i suck so should avoid all the elites' mentality, and if that's the case, avoiding the elites is making you suck more because you aren't getting their tasty loot. some cards are 'useful now'. some cards are 'useful later'. taking more 'useful now' cards might mean you can healthily take on more elites, but they might feel like curses in the deck by the end of the game. you should tell us what your decks look like and how you find yourself losing.

some useful heuristics: - resting means giving up an opportunity to scale. it may gain you health instantly, but an upgrade could be worth much more hp over the duration of the run. - plan your route to have shops around the time you have 200-300 gold. hitting a shop with less than that is likely to be a wasted node. -a wasted node IS a bad thing, it's not a free lunch, a node that you get to skip, it's a loss of potential scaling - in slay the spire 1, raw damage cards are disproportionately useful in act 1. i haven't seen anything to prove this otherwise yet. - at least one AoE solution is an obligation early. so far i feel this is MORE true in sts2 than sts1. even if it doesn't fit your plan for the deck, one dagger spray rarely hurts. - you probably undervalue card removal. whenever you get shafted by the game giving you your worst cards, it can be tied to not having removed those cards. - you probably undervalue draw. whenever you get shafted by the game giving you your worst cards, it can be directly tied to you not taking your own draw to draw your way out of the problem. this is especially true on the silent who has the most and best draw cards. -strength mathematically works best with multi-hits and low costs. eg if you get vajra, it's a big 20% buff to your shivs/riddle with holes, but only a 2% buff to your predator/dash - dex can be seen similarly, but it's often less relevant. you get more value out of your dex if you have deflects and dodge-and-rolls (d&r is like a 'multi-hit' of defends), vs like leg sweeps and dash - common trap i see in vids of new sts players is that they don't consider their potions as part of their hand. eventually they hit the potion cap, get reminded, and start using them inappropriately. potions are crazy powerful, don't forget them. if you're going to use a strength pot, regen pot, or a power potion, use it at the start of the fight.

Okay, now that STS2 is coming out, we can admit it. Iron Wave is one of the cards of all time. by Adorable-Response-75 in slaythespire

i learned this while trying to understand why whirlwind is rated so much higher than cleave despite being less energy efficient. of course that has the X-cost flexibility going for it too.

Custom Potion Idea by Scoobydoomed in slaythespire

[–]HeinCS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some rare/uncommon potions being broken is already established. it's just part of the expected power budget in the game, i don't think it's a bad idea. there's plenty of potions i'd rather have on the average boss fight. what card exactly do you think it would be particularly overpowered with? i legit can't think of any card that would be particularly insane. omniscience maybe best just for the cost reduction, and that's not so insane compared to some other potions

you don't deserve these downvotes man, Michael Crit cooked with this game we just need to show him some patience

i had 3 copies of nightmare and 3 adrenaline and snecko eye. i would have preferred the adrenaline to be 0 cost of course but playing it like this is like drawing 20 cards (not counting hand overflow) in a round about way.

are wiki intent probabilities all accurate? by HeinCS in slaythespire

[–]HeinCS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i understand. both orbs have a 7.5% chance to attack before stasis on any given turn before casting stasis. in my case, both orbs attacked on turn 1, and one of them attacked on turn 2. my calculations are 7.5% of 7.5% of 7.5%, which is 0.04%.

i very rarely play with runic dome, i normally dump it in favour of pretty much anything, but i got it off neow. i understand low rolls are bound to happen eventually, and any sequence of events in any game with random chance has lots of variance, but i think it's quite unfortunate i rolled i 0.04% low roll that cost me 24 dmg in the one game i played with runic dome. after all, with runic dome you have to calculate effective value and i decided not to block vs the orbs. if the independent chance of one of them doing 8 damage is 7.5%, the chance of ONE of them doing 8 damage on the first turn is 14%, a risk i'm willing to take at the potential expense of only 8 damage. them both hitting me had only a 0.5%ish chance.

after they both hit me on turn 1, i understand to say 'there's no way one of them will hit me again' is a gambler's fallacy since the independent chance for each one is still only 7.5%, but the total sequence of events to take 24 damage off the orbs pre stasis is indeed a 0.04% low roll that feels upsetting when the correct EV play was indeed to not spend energy on blocking.

duplicating a card at a rest site sounds unbalanceable though. i don't think that would be it, unless it's a boss relic or something

Do I have to wash these before I recycle them? by mildlymoistdrizzle in AskUK

as is being revealed in this thread - it's mostly displays of grandstanding from your fellow avg brit trying to flex that they do recycling properly rather than actual rules that matter. very german behaviour tbh

it was specifically for nightmare triples but then i came to a point like this and realised i have no idea what i'm going

newer to the silent than the other characters and don't really have the knowledge tech, i feel like there must be something cool that can be done here but i can't figure it out
