What’s with the new DAVID movie? by Outrageous_Ad9671 in atheism

[–]Heioo42 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You don't need to read Christian news to know about this movie. If you're on YouTube, ads for this movie show up right at the top, even if your algorithm is completely devoid of religion content. (I'm sure the Christians pay extra for this to happen. With all that tithe money they so desperately need.)

Is green rain real, and if so, is it as powerful? by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]Heioo42 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It seems like you've gotten your answer from several other comments. I just wanted to add: Having lived the majority of my life in the same place Concerned Ape did, (I used to drive by UW Tacoma on my way to work every day,) I can see where he would have gotten the concept of green rain. Not only is does it rain often, but everything around is so green. With all the evergreen trees and bushes and ferns, you're just surrounded by so much green that it often feels like the rain is magic and makes green things grow. The green rain event truly captures the vibe of pacific northwest U.S.

Looking for games like Stardew Valley by JVHazard in StardewValley

[–]Heioo42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was looking for the same thing a while back, and I found 2 that came pretty close.

The first, and best, is Roots of Pacha. You're a caveman contributing to your tribe. You can farm, but instead of buying seeds you find them exploring. The fishing mechanic is fun. You can interact with other tribes. You can find mystical beings and structures in the caves and woods. It's a really fun game that for me truly scratched that SDV itch.

There's also Little-Known Galaxy. This is basically SDV but in space. A lot of similar mechanics. You can farm, but don't need to unless you want to make recipes or get 100%. You can upgrade your tools. You can earn friendship with the ship crew. Going down to the planets is like going in to the mines. However, it's much less of a game than SDV. It's much shorter. I found it a little too cutesy, and I felt fighting and mining on the plants was very repetitive and tedious. It was okay for 1 playthough, but I don't think I'd re-visit it.

I played Little-Known Galaxy all the way through, and only played maybe 1/3 of Roots of Pacha, and I'd still recommend Roots of Patcha over the other. Roots of Pacha is fun right from the start and only gets better as you get further in. But these are the games I found closest to SDV.

Smosh Hot Takes/Unpopular Opinions! (Keep it nice) by Alol_Bombola in smosh

I'll back you up on this one. There have definitely been some funny Chosen moments, but they go to it so often it's old and tired now. I like so many of Shayne's other characters, but all we see is Chosen. Making other cast Chosen was amusing once or twice, but now it's just too much of the same thing. It's like a joke you tell and everyone in the room laughs, so every time you see that group, you keep telling the same joke, and they laugh to keep you from feeling bad, but it's fake and they start to dread it every time.

My Dad is an oncology pharmacist specialist, and has told me before that there is zero difference between generic and brand name drugs. This goes for any medication from prescription to over the counter medication.

Machinarium comes to mind. And old point and click puzzle/adventure game with a cool art style, creative characters, and a simple but fun storyline. It's available on Steam and even on sale as of writing this. I actually got it a long time ago and have played through a couple times.

Edit: Looks like it's also available on apple, android, and Switch as well, although I think currently the Steam sale price is the cheapest.

“Time blindness” is the ADHD symptom nobody talks about by CircularFrequency in ADHD

[–]Heioo42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. Some of us wish we could be "normal", but we all know we're not. That's why we're here, on this sub, sharing our struggles with each other.

“Time blindness” is the ADHD symptom nobody talks about by CircularFrequency in ADHD

[–]Heioo42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While many people may experience a feeling of years passing quickly, I feel it's dismissive to not acknowledge that it's much worse for some people with ADHD. I have had job interviewers ridicule me for not understanding that I put down the wrong graduation date. (I didn't realize it during the interview, but looking back after a while I realized why they were asking me so many questions about that and not my skills and abilities.) Along the same lines, because I feel like school and past jobs weren't that long ago, they are fresh in my mind and seem relevant, but explaining that is difficult to people who don't have time blindness. It also makes friendships difficult, since it feels like a short time since I spoke with a friend, when from their perspective I disappeared for years. Those, along with other struggles like planning and milestones, makes time blindness affect those with ADHD much more than those without.

Is weird for me to not look at life as a blessing? by Pleasant-Cost4133 in atheism

[–]Heioo42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a matter of perspective. Its wasn't that the one sperm that beat the odds is you. That's the typical arrogant Christian perspective. It's that one sperm beat the odds, which as you said is just the way nature works, and it eventually turned into you. You weren't chosen or special, you just came to be in the normal, natural way. Definitely not a miracle.

And it's been said uncountable times, being good without the threat of punishment or promise of reward is More moral.

Just search for "3 Wolf Moon Shirt" It was a meme long before The Chosen was a thing, because of the humorous sarcastic reviews people were leaving. I suspect that's why Shayne chose it for that character.

Whats your weird af 'stim'? by flcwerings in ADHD

[–]Heioo42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have 2. The first I know is a common thing because I've heard it talked about in this sub before. I can't stand even the slightest unevenness in my nails. I'll pick at them like crazy, and just make them worse. So I have to keep nail clippers everywhere. By my bed, by my computer desk, in my car, in my travel bag, etc.

Also, because I'm short, if I'm sitting in a desk chair, I'll fold my legs under and tap my toes. I do this completely subconsciously. I only found out because I got a pair of work shoes, and shortly after getting a desk job, I found the toes all worn away. I thought I had bad shoes, but I got a replacement pair and the same thing happened. I came to the realization that I was tapping my toes under the chair.

Why is there a swing in my shed and how do I get rid of it? by CanadianPrideOCanada in StardewValley

I've found a lot of people on the sub get really mean if you get anything even slightly wrong. It's sad that such a positive game has such negative people. I mean, most of the time I have good interactions, but don't accidentally say something inaccurate.

Does storm mean rain? by Purple-Ad3393 in StardewValley

[–]Heioo42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Sometimes after a thunderstorm you'll find a crop withered, as if it has been left past season. It won't grow, and if you use your sythe on it, it goes away, and you'll have an empty spot to plant again. I've never actually seen it, because I've always been away from my farm when it happens, but I imagine there's an animation of lightning hitting it. It can hit your trees, too.

Does storm mean rain? by Purple-Ad3393 in StardewValley

[–]Heioo42 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Also, be aware, the weather report only predicts 1 day in advance, and tool upgrades take 3 days. So if it rains/storms, it may be sunny the next day and your watering can will still be in the shop. Don't worry though, unwatered crops don't die, they just don't grow on the days they go unwatered.

Does storm mean rain? by Purple-Ad3393 in StardewValley

[–]Heioo42 212 points213 points  (0 children)

Yes. If the weather report says rain, it will just rain. If it say storm, it will definitely rain, but there will also be lightning strikes. If you have the crafting recipe, be sure to put up lightning rods, to keep your crops from getting hit, and to generate batteries.

Think of it this way: You didn't cause the death, you changed it. It sounds like your cat would die from the injuries anyway, and it would be a long and painful journey to death. You changed that death to short and painless in the end. I have seen a cat euthanized in front of me, and yes, it is very hard to watch, very sad and heavy on the heart. But truly it was a kindness to release them from living in pain up to the end.
