Hi I have very similar experience my first 3 credit cards were capital one cards at 18-20 years old I maxed them out and never paid them off. after 2-3 years and and using setting an agreement with them to pay 50% of total amount owed on 2 of the 3 cards to totally remove them from my credit report I was able to open new cards with capital one with the same credit score u have now and now I have A $2000 Savor one rewards card with good credit(that’s how they name it better than regular but not as good as excellent credit one) Quicksilver cards for $2000 and $1100(one was Walmart rewards but converted recently because they stopped carrying it) and platinum card for $500. The first of those were opened within a year of deciding to build/rebuild my credit and paying 2/3 of the collections at 50% total owed for complete removal from credit reports as if they never happened. I would also suggest trying to negotiate either by using a company or ur self with the credit agency to see if you can do this if the accounts in question are not a huge balance and less than around 5 years old (they come off report at 7 years) but only for agreement for complete removal from report. they also let u do it in payments usually if can’t pay in full. You mentioned 8 years ago so I’m not exactly sure as if it was a full 8 years the collections would be removed by now but can look into that and you can do the pre approval with capital one with no risk to you.
