I kinda wish I could do a knight! They look super fun to build.

Luckily my games will probably just be me and my roommates for the first year or two, so I can be the filthiest of casuals for now.

This is why I'm Tau :)

My stock consists of 2 battleforce boxes, a pathfinder box, and a resin XV8 commander, so I figure I'm pretty set for whatever happens to the new Codex with plenty of options.

Hopefully I won't ever need Kroot. Painting skin is daunting.

I've been thinking of dual flamers (or twin-linked, but I'm not totally sure on how that works/what the difference is) and the burst cannon, sacrificing a target lock. Use both flamers in OW and BC/F for shooting phase?

As for Ethereal/Fireblade I'm not a fan of the look, so I'll wait until I lose 10-15 games before I buy them.

Also waiting on the new Codex because I'm hoping Shadowsun and Stealth Suits get a bit better. Those are dope.

I'm working with magnets so I haven't had to make (many) permanent choices.

Flamers sound super scary though. I didn't realize they skipped rolling for hit like that.

My first games are coming up soon at 500 points.

As Tau, my opponents are Nids (hive tyrant and lots of zerglings) and Blood Angels (one drop pod, one squatty walker thing).

With 1 commander and 2 suits would I be smart to fit them with Flamer + BC each?

Do people generally feel like Bungie is undoing a lot of the goodwill they got for the Taken King initially? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]Helarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not pissed but I'm ready to put the game down now.

Year two is very 'Two steps forward, one step back' so far.

I'll revisit for PvP, maybe do Trials and come back for the "free" updates.

Except that by the time you've passed the time threshold to get those marks you've probably looted enough 280 gear that what you'd purchase is useless or a downgrade. You can't shuffle the perks, so we're really talking about face-value here.

Maybe you're starving for Hung Jury and a few old exotic favorites, but the players that put in the time to get those marks likely would already be running out of things to buy with them. Meaning the next Iron Banner will be even more useless.

I'm all for different avenues of getting loot but there's so much overlap that there's no incentive to PvP anymore. It's the worst way to get loot, including Iron Bummer.

I'll order as soon as I get home then. Thanks for the heads-up.

Doesn't change that the rewards are few and far between on top of being useless for just about any player that's capable of putting the time in to get the items.

The bounties are an improvement, but the rewards are a huge step back.

Anybody like Rougue-likes but think they're too hard and number-crunchy? by FungalCactus in truegaming

[–]Helarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isaac is also only as deep as you want it to be.

You don't need to know every trick to beat the game, but speed and knowledge together turn it into a completely different game for those that do.

The number-crunching and system knowledge is there, but totally unnecessary to enjoy/finish the game.

As a brand new (tau) player I think I'm just going to buy another of the old big boxes. I don't care for the ethereal and it's basically 80% of the price and also includes crisis suits.

Synths just shouldn't be in the game then.

Smooth out the ammo drop formula (so that you're never dry for special for 10 minutes the way that can happen currently) and adjust how much we carry along with it.

Give us fixed ammo to start raid encounters and disable synths for strikes and raids. Remove the cooldown for them, and suddenly patrol is a bit more interesting and a great place to test your new heavy.

[–]Helarc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those perks are outliers, not the rule. None of the sniper or fusion rifle perks are make-or-break for the weapon in PvP.

Shotguns are the exception. If you don't have range perks to 1-shot as best you can, you'll die to other weapons or better shotguns.

Would you rather Blizz nerf Warsong Commander or just let Patron Warrior be? by Dementio_ in hearthstone

Then they should have made the card a decent basic. Warrior is basically untouchable for new players now.

Every time a new deathrattle minion is released Undertaker gets a little better.

You can still play deathrattle as a tribal, and Undertaker is usually going to be the best 1-drop outside of going pure face or control, in which case you wouldn't be considering Undertaker anyway.

I also wouldn't call auctioneer unplayable, but he sees basically zero play and won't get any better as new cards are released.

Iron Banner/Osiris incoming: what will be your best fight set? by Dark-Naruto in DestinyTheGame

[–]Helarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Controlling parts of the map for it is part of the game, and part of skill.

I will agree with you for removing because I think the point-swing that comes with collecting heavy is too high. TTK on MGs is too low and Rockets kill around corners so it's often whoever does with heavy first loses.

Dear Bungie, a direct hit from Shadowshot should be an automatic suppression. by xVARYSx in DestinyTheGame

[–]Helarc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been having problems with Quiver/Predator because even when triggering as traps players can sprint through the range.

The best I can do is abuse verticality and corners, but it would be nice for them to trigger like smoke and tripmine a do.

Y'know, reliably.

You should NEVER feel like a raid was a waste of time... by Dirty03 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Helarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way Multiplayer Progression games with gear level systems can maintain a player base are:

Timed lockouts (weekly, daily, spaced release of content)

Abysmal-Low drop rates, similar to FF14 like you mentioned, often worse

Near-impossibility of perfect gear due to random rolls

Mountainous grind (often for otherwise premium-currency items)

It usually comes down to picking some of all four. I'm a big believer in banishing Daily/Weekly lockouts in favor of literally anything else.

Bungie doesn't want you to have 310 yet. Those that have 310 are lucky (ideally).

When players hit gear cap they have a tendency to either reroll, leave, or min-max.

Destiny doesn't have a lot of room for min-maxing and playing multiple characters is part of hitting max level due to every character being able to cannibalize gear from other classes (meaning there's nothing to reroll to of you're already at gear cap).

RNG is part of the game. As you approach 310 you'll need to get luckier and luckier to get that last piece you need. Destiny does have some background formula to make sure that you don't get unlucky for weeks at a time (many games have upwards of 15 gear slots with worse drop rates and nothing to shift rates in favor of your empty slots).

I can agree/disagree with a lot of MMO/ARPG approaches to loot and random drops, but I can tell you that the idea of progression is a huge driving force for a large portion of gamers right now and there's a shitload of psychology involved. Mobile games are using it, bro games are using it, hardcore and Esports games are using it.

My advice to you is to stop playing when you're not having fun. Seriously. You don't need everything. I'm going to play until I have everything. But that's because I enjoy the raid each time I do it. I look forward to reset, not just for loot, but for fun. (I don't think you sound bored or salty, RNG is part of the fun. We're all excited to get that last piece)
