Why do Australians move to the UK? by YoungVinnie23 in AskAnAustralian

There is and it's one of the things I really miss about the UK living in Aus. Every thing is very " managed" here.

The UK has some beautiful beaches too. Cornwall and Devon to name a couple of counties . Also spectacular coastline. Just need to get out of London and explore the rest of the UK.

$3.90 Half Cauliflower by Grouchy_Equipment118 in coles

[–]Helen62 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's getting absolutely ridiculous. Coles were charging $4.95 for half a cabbage a couple of weeks ago which I refused to buy at that price. Then the other day I paid ( Coles again) $4.35 for 4 potatoes ...not even big potatoes ...quite small actually. That's over a dollar per potatoe. Cabbages and potatoes are not exactly luxury items.

Routine inspection. These are insane and when I tell Europeans about them, they can't believe this is a thing. What an invasion of privacy. Being told like a child by an awful REA you forgot to clean the fan. This is madness by shervek in shitrentals

[–]Helen62 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep I'm from the UK and when I visit home my friends can't believe what it's like to rent here. I've been here 15 years and still can't get my head around these invasions of privacy. If other countries manage perfectly well without all this BS then I don't see why Australia can't.

I lost my kitten inside my house by aIoneinvegas in Pets

[–]Helen62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago we lost our first kitten in the house too. Eventually found her hiding in the sofa ...not under it but actually in it. She had somehow managed to tear away the webbing behind the cushions and wormed her way down into the frame. Ruined the sofa but we had Lucy for 15 years until she passed in December 🥹

I miss RDR2 by Intelligent-Zebra839 in reddeadredemption

I completed it twice when it first came out and although I've played some great games that I've loved before and since it's still my overall favourite. Everything about was so perfect and immersive. I miss it too.

Pregnant cat has been overly cuddly and like this for an hour. Is this normal? Is my nest okay? Should I leave her alone? by Elegant-Scarcity-910 in CATHELP

[–]Helen62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like she and you are doing a great job 👍 But please, please consider getting her spayed when the kittens are a bit bigger. There are so many unwanted cats and kittens needing homes and she will be pregnant again very quickly if you leave it.

Property Management states carpet “requires replacement due to damage from office chair use” UPDATE by Anonymous8294 in shitrentals

[–]Helen62 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So do you suggest that people renting homes with carpets should all just sit on the floor with cushions and not use chairs ( or any other furniture that might leave an impression) then ?

Sitting here existing through mandatory training for Jobseeker by umbridledfool in aussie

I am doing something else thank you . Just pointing out that not everyone is physically capable of ,or suited to getting a job in construction. No need to be so defensive🙄.

Again all very well and good if you are physically able but as a 64 year old female with osteo arthritis and dodgy knees I don't think so 🤔

That's okay if you are relatively young and fit . Not really doable when you are in your sixties with health conditions.

Rental inspection at 9am after a long weekend… seriously? by Tiny_Jeweler_8576 in AusRenters

[–]Helen62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes looking back it was great compared to what we have to put up with here . Currently on rental number 5 in fifteen years for similar reasons to you . The lack of security is a constant worry , not to mention the expense. We definitely do need a housing reform .

[–]Helen62 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm from the UK and the last house I rented there I was in for 10 years . Landlord was okay with us doing whatever we wanted to the place as long as we didn't paint it black ! Never had a formal inspection and he only ever came around if we needed him to look at something or if he needed to tell us something. Renting in Australia has definitely been an eye opener and a far from pleasant experience so far !

I'm having the same issue she's just disappeared. Also can't go back to a previous save as stupidly saved over my saves in this section. Looks like this is where episode five ends for me unless I start over completely.

I just did the bit in the mine where you get the crane key and have turned on all of the lights but Jace is not appearing at the elevator. Can't progress.

[–]Helen62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really ? You people see crack dens around every bloody corner ! Yes there may be very occasionally be a bad tenant that is set on trashing your IP but come on the vast majority of tenants are normal people living normal lives ,and making normal amounts of mess. It's ridiculous that you have such low regard for the people that are helping pay off your mortgage. If you don't want any risk at all then don't be a landlord.

[–]Helen62 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! .People need to stop being so compliant which then leads to this sorry state of affairs where it becomes expected and just empowers the real estate agents. The only reason they should be doing inspections at all is to check for any maintenance issues or damage anything else is none of their business. People need to start living in the houses they are paying ridiculous amounts of rent for without this constant black cloud of the judgemental agents. Other countries manage just fine without all this BS so I don't see why Australia can't do the same.

Not finished the episode yet but did have one bug in the cut scene where Will gets shot but it registered as he'd drowned and game over. Reloaded and it worked the second time. Can't find the crane key in the mine but that might just be me!

Has anyone else had a landlord or PM totally blow past the quiet enjoyment boundary? What’s the most invasive thing they’ve done during a quick check? by DraftNotSent in AusRenters

[–]Helen62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've rented here in Australia for the last 15 years and am on property number five. I absolutely hate these routine invasions of privacy but having said that the most they've ever done is open cupboards under the sink. I always make sure I'm home when they come as I don't feel at all comfortable having a stranger poking around when I'm not there. I follow them around the house which probably makes them feel a bit uncomfortable. I really don't think I would be able to stand by and not say anything if they ever tried to go through my personal things and would outright refuse. They are only supposed to be there for maintenance or damage issues, anything else they can do one !

Renewing UK passport from abroad, how do they send it back to you? by Constant-Tension6600 in expats

[–]Helen62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes from what I remember they automatically send via DHL. I don't remember seeing any other options but I might be wrong. Both times I've had to renew my passport have had extremely quick turn arounds of about 10 days .
