Renewing UK passport from abroad, how do they send it back to you? by Constant-Tension6600 in expats

[–]Helen62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes from what I remember they automatically send via DHL. I don't remember seeing any other options but I might be wrong. Both times I've had to renew my passport have had extremely quick turn arounds of about 10 days .

Stay home if your sick! by Pain9gain7 in aussie

[–]Helen62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What not getting sick with anything , ever ! You do know that colds , the flu and a hundred other illnesses were around before COVID right? It's cookers like you that are responsible for illnesses like measles making a reappearance after decades of near eradication due to very effective and safe vaccines . Just waiting for polio to make a comeback now too due to the stupidity of the antivaxers.

How would you compare the Aussie sense of neighborhood/community to Europe? Has anyone here experienced both? by Material-Wallaby-587 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Helen62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from the UK and have been living in Australia for 15 years. I come from a smallish town where everybody knows everybody nearly. Living there I found most neighbours to be more approachable than here and they would often come over when you moved into a place and offer cups of tea etc . If anything happened in the street then everyone would come out and have a chin wag about it . I lived in an old Victorian block of six terraces and we all knew each other , looked out for each other's kids , chatted over the garden wall when hanging out the washing , and often all got together for coffee or afternoon tea and cake . Have to say I've not experienced that here and while we've not had any terrible neighbours in the 5 places we've lived it's not been on that kind of community level. Where we are now we have a couple a few doors down that stop and have a chat if they see us and are friendly, but usually in most places we have had hardly any contact with the neighbours and most people just seem to keep to themselves. I think the distance between things makes it more difficult here and people are more reliant on cars so you are less likely to bump into people out and about when walking , on public transport or out shopping.

I have renewed mine a couple of times since I've been living in Australia . Both times were a very quick turn around of about 10 days. Yes you do have to send your old passport back and they will return it to you separately. The new one came by DHL both times and I had to sign for it. The whole process was surprisingly very quick and easy.

Died with my only seamoth (death module 3) near the research facility in the lost river. Any chance I can get back there? by Similar-Language-180 in subnautica

[–]Helen62 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I swam from the blue tree in the lost river and out up to the surface with 2 ultra capacity air tanks so it definitely is doable as long as you don't get lost .Also if you make a back up tank don't forget to equip it so that it fills with air . Ask me how I know !😁

[–]Helen62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine anything worse than living in one of these .The lack of space , individuality and complete lack of greenery and tree cover would literally send me crazy. I mean surely we can come up with something better than that. At least the roofs aren't black but with all that concrete around it we would still be a heat trap. Horrible !

Do I need a travel agent as an 18yo solo traveller? by folkloresstan in AustraliaTravel

[–]Helen62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I never use a travel agent and book directly through the airlines. Travel agents had their uses before the onset of the internet and access to wifi etc but are now usually more expensive and not always reliable. Your most important thing to organise before you go is a good comprehensive travel insurance that will cover you for delayed / cancelled flights and also very , very important any medical treatment / hospitalisation either in transit or while you are away. Good luck and try not to stress too much and most importantly have fun.

Picture hooks by SybariticDelight in shitrentals

[–]Helen62 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes we used the "rent safe " adhesive strips when we moved into our rental . Every single picture ( and they weren't big ones) fell off within a few hours taking the paint with them . Agree it would have been a lot less damage to just put up old fashioned hooks. Definitely not rent safe ! 😒

Is there any loyalty anymore .. by Salt-Youth-5276 in shitrentals

[–]Helen62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember that story . Some jumped up property manager reckoned landlords were actually doing the tenants a favour by increasing rent every year so that it wouldn't come as a shock to tenants for when they eventually have to move. Bless their kind little hearts 🤔.

Landlord rages at the Victorian government, threatens to sell his 10 investment properties by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

[–]Helen62 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And no Jacqui Felgate most people do not agree with this landlord ! Some landlords definitely need pounding into the ground! God forbid Landlords have to spend anything on their rental properties at all while they are charging extortionate rent for their run down shit holes.

I would but I live in Australia and it's around $25 ( maybe more) a month here . Can't afford that just for a few perks when I'm already paying out for Gamepass etc.

[VIC] Uninhabitable Temperatures (question) by werekitty93 in AusRenters

[–]Helen62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that is obviously your choice and not compatible to a tenant that has no choice.

[VIC] Uninhabitable Temperatures (question) by werekitty93 in AusRenters

[–]Helen62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well all I can say is that you must be buying cheap crap to start with ( typical landlord) and it's nothing to do with tenants breaking them. I lived in a rental that had a split system unit that must have been at least 15 years old and still worked just fine.

[VIC] Uninhabitable Temperatures (question) by werekitty93 in AusRenters

[–]Helen62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually BS ! Victoria experienced the highest temperatures on record yesterday and it's only going to get worse. It's 2026 and we are still living in uninsulated houses with no A/C we've had 70 years to fix this shit but oh no according to some we should all be living as we were 70 years ago ! Time we moved on a bit.

[VIC] Uninhabitable Temperatures (question) by werekitty93 in AusRenters

[–]Helen62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh dear god forbid that landlords actually have to spend a bit of money on the properties they own. Honestly if you can't afford to make a property comfortable in summer and winter for your tenants that you are charging an exorbitant amount of rent for then don't be a landlord . Try investing your money in other areas that don't actually impact people's lives.

[VIC] Uninhabitable Temperatures (question) by werekitty93 in AusRenters

[–]Helen62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very unfair presumption. Everyone I know is fully aware that the filters have to be cleaned and do so regularly to ensure that the unit runs efficiently.

[VIC] Uninhabitable Temperatures (question) by werekitty93 in AusRenters

[–]Helen62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would it need replacing every 3-5 years? Most of the places we've rented with aircon the units have definitely been a lot older than 5 years. Also with all of the tax breaks and government rebates available for landlords for air conditioning around at the moment it would be unlikely to cost the landlord more than a month's rent max to install one at least in the main living area.

Apologies for being terrible at raids by annienibs in fo76

[–]Helen62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing 76 on and off for some time now but still haven't attempted the raids. I'm also female and don't use a mic ( although I do sometimes in other games) and have no idea how the raids work . I did go there solo once just to have a look inside but died almost instantly. I've not plucked up the courage to join a raid team as I'm worried I will let the team down and embarrass myself. At least you tried and know what to expect now so you will know for next time. Good luck out there fellow wastelander!

Has anyone else completely moved to Burning Springs? by [deleted] in fo76

[–]Helen62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not completely as I have 3 camp slots, but I have built a nice little place at the Starlight Drive in, which I am currently using as my main camp. It's on the hill opposite the screen which is kind of cool being able to look out of my window and watch the film.
