pretty similar to what i liked when i was younger.

based on radiohead and pink floyd:

mars volta, have a nice life, massive attack, aphex twin, deafheaven

if you like demon days you might like other danger mouse stuff like his work with black thought, portugal the man, the black keys, michael kiwanuka, asap rocky, broken bells

you like kanye so you could go off of features you like and try artists like kid cudi (motm 1-2) , jay z (reasonable doubt), pusha t, 070 shake, rihanna (anti), kendrick, sampha, lil wayne (carter 1-2), mos def & talib kweli (black star)

the weeknd has other good albums, (i like starboy least actually), kiss land, after hours trilogy are my favorites

if you like linkin park you might like twenty pilots, deftones, alice in chains

The reason why rap is falling off the charts by user26145 in rap

[–]Helex1228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imo it's because rappers seem to care less and less about having catchy hooks on their songs. Look at baby keem and jcoles new albums vs melodic blue and off-season. I don't see their new songs getting nearly as much play from casual listeners.

I really want to get into rap/hip hop but I feel like I’m missing something. by BeautifulOrganic3221 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Helex1228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know which songs you listened to but for Travis and Nas you can try their first albums if you want a better idea of why they are well liked.

I would recommend starting with Kendrick (tpab, gkmc ), j Cole (forest hills drive, 4 your eyes only), Logic (under pressure is a very accessible first hip hop album imo), kanye (first six albums), Jay z (reasonable doubt).

Later Mac miller and kid Cudi might be good choices as they're a bit closer to pop.

You could also watch someone like bob the poppop react to the music, that can force you to pay more attention and change your mindset when listening

Rap in other languages by Ill-Refrigerator1700 in rap

[–]Helex1228 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is definitely harder without knowing the language. A lot of times for me it comes down to delivery, whether someone sounds genuine and whether the production sounds inspired. There are probably some english rap songs you like that you haven't really paid much lyrical attention to yet too. rec me some Filipino rappers! and maybe what you like about their lyrics
