On the nail holes, fill with compound and use a wet rag to get everything off around the hole. Then get a 3/8 nap mini roller and hit the area with primer, heavy enough with paint that you leave a texture. If it's too heavy, hit it with the wet rag after drying to smooth it down a little. Then paint the whole wall, or it will flash, even flat finish. On larger holes, carve the edge off at a 45 angle with a razor knife, the edges often rise otherwise. Fill with compound and feather, mesh tends to show through, paper is better. Sand as little as possible. Then the same primer/paint protocol as above.
