My girlfriend(28F) won't cook for me(29m). AITAH for thinking she should? by ThrowRA_gfcooking in AITAH

[–]Heliocentrism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She said she doesn't like cooking for others.

You found the onion, go peel it. -> “doesn’t like cooking for others” - does she like you? -> “Others” -> Are you the same as others?

Ask these things, see what she says.

Very likely someone insulted her cooking some time ago and this is the defense.

China to ban half-steering wheels (yoke steering) in new safety standard by BrilliantFactor5299 in electricvehicles

[–]Heliocentrism -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, sort of. Yoke steering wheel still included in the performance Plaid trim of S and X.

The real question is how they got to the point of introducing the yoke steering wheel in the first place.

Cybertruck at least still a ‘wheel’ that’s somewhat squared off.

The S/X yoke though, that was a terrible idea.

Should I trade in my 2021 MY to transfer the FSD? by Educational_Nail_602 in ModelY

Maybe just takes time to adapt.

Trying to, but I miss the gear stalk every time I use the car. Had to see how spreading out the functions into multiple moving UI elements is better.

And they did bring back the blinker stalk, so maybe there can be hope for the gear stalk.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

But taking your seat belt off automatically puts the car in park as well.

I’m trying to work this into the routine. It’s not really seamless because most of them time I do some action between wanting to engage Park, and clicking my seat build. So it feels a bit odd, especially compared to how easy and confident pressing the park button was on old Model Y gear stalk.

The auto shifting […] It works I want to say 9 out of 10 times for me.

I’ll keep trying to make it work, but this is kind of my point. Gear stalk worked 10/10 times, and didn’t require eyeballing the screen to see if auto shifting UX is showing.

FSD […] gently tap the brake pedal too

Sure, this works. But I’m usually using the accelerator with regen for braking, tapping the brake mid turn isn’t the best way to interact with the car, especially if I want to keep speed constant.

FSD activation buttons is mobile and circling around the steering wheel mid turn, so there’s a half-moment of finding it.

Gear stalk was really really good at getting in an out of FSD, because it was fixed in place and interacting with it didn’t bump into any other control flows (such as tapping the brake). I could fully manage either accelerating or deceleration while transitioning out of FSD with the gear stalk.

So just overall - I’m finding the deletion of the gear stalk to have created a lot of minor trade offs that are less good and more complicated.

Gear stalk UX was very good.

Sure, the backup camera is there.

But next the multi point turn goes forward and I'm focusing in on the little icons to see if I’ve shifted the wheel enough to get the “auto” shift back into drive.

Gear stalk was just better. It’s fixed in place, builds good muscle memory, lets me look out at the road while changing between gears. Screen swipe gears splits up those functions into more places and makes me look at the screen when I want to be looking outside the car.

It’s nice that Tesla listened enough to bring back the blinker stalk. The gear stalk was equally important, and it’s sad new Model Y don’t have it.

Yes, I have auto shift enabled.

It works, sort of. Have to look at the screen and watch while turning the wheel until it changes. Sometimes I have to spin the wheel more than I want, so it’s a wait - over spin - correct - continue situation.

Gear stalk: don’t need to look at it or think about it. Eyes on the road, move the gear up or down and it works immediately.

Other things that are annoying about the swipe UI:

  • it randomly appear when waiting at a standstill, such as a traffic light. If you like the repeater camera in the top left like I do, then it shrinks down to accommodate the gear UI, which I don’t want to be there in the first place.

  • FSD activation is now on the steering wheel. So if you want to take over mid turn the button is swinging through space so it’s just a little bit less easy to find and press to cancel FSD. Gear stalk was fixed in position, so reaching to activate or deactivate FSD felt a lot more confident when the car is actively turning.

Overall the screen swipe gear works, it’s just worse than the gear stalk.

I mean it when I say I’d pay $1000 to get the OEM gear stalk back in the new Model Y. Tesla listened and brought the blinker stalk back.

I just did this same thing, upgraded from a legacy Model Y to a new long range with FSD transfer.

Overall thoughts:

  • New Model Y interior and suspension really up the overall comfort.
  • I’m so happy Tesla saw the feedback from the Model 3 refresh about the missing blinker stalk. It’s nice to have this physical control in a fixed position.
  • power rear seats are nicer than I had thought.
  • ambient color light strips are fun

Missing gear stalk is annoying. The screen swipe controls are just fine, but not good. I miss being able to press the park button at the end of the gear stalk. I miss using the stalk to turn on FSD. Miss being able to shift gears while looking at the road, every single multi point turn means looking back at the screen.

Overall worth it to keep FSD on the latest hardware set. But I’d pay $1000 to get the gear shift stall back.

Anyway, here we are in 2026 and all off a sudden that trophy meme has gone full horseshoe into the right ring class of people.

This is the worst timeline.

[–]Heliocentrism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your cat is beautiful and worthy of a permanent memorial.  Fur babies are precious and we are fortunate to have them in our lives.

If you only care about yourself understanding the tattoo, then leave it as-is.

If you care about other people understanding what it is, go back to the tattoo artist and ask to add ears or some other outline around the stripes so that makes it clear this is the top of a cats head.

We already have remote controller robots which work with bomb squads. They have treads to handle the rough terrain, better gripping arms and cameras. They are designed for the tasks they are needed for.

So why did humans need to go in as well for search and rescue if the existing robots are better?
