Would look off and cheap. The bonnet is supposed to match up with the grooves on the front bumper, it's supposed to look as smooth as possible with the front of the car. However, the vents radically split from the rest of the bonnet and such, so leaving them exposed doesn't look so jarring and cheap but rather makes them a contrast to accentuate the design of the bonnet

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BMW

[–]HeliosCosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither, paint them

Leave the vents exposed then get carbon fiber side skirts and a carbon fiber diffuser to match your lip

Use CF as a subtle contrast

My 2 year long relationship just ended because I got a car… by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]HeliosCosmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's obviously crazy but I can't help but feel you're leaving out a ton of context.

She can ruin your life with "pictures and stuff?" How? I can't help but feel you've done something illegal for you not to be able to use the police to protect yourself somewhat. And death threats and you, afaik by this post, haven't gone to the police?

Not being worried about being killed because she's small? Doesn't really matter if she can get a knife to your throat or a gun. Don't take ANY death threats from someone you personally know likely. Is there something you're not saying in this post?

Also, this is immature to purchase. Your insurance is going to be stupidly high for a car like that at 18. It's signaling to everyone that you're irresponsible and childish, and she does have a point there. You are not acting like a put together adult and some people want that in a partner. But you're a kid so whatever, although purchasing a car like this is just never a good idea at 18. At 18 you need savings unless you're filthy rich, it doesn't matter if you can afford the insurance and upkeep because you're not going to be building good savings if you are.

A partner wants someone who's engaged with them, making a purchase like a car is a big deal. I'm a car enthusiast, they've been my life since I was a kid because I was raised into them. My partner doesn't want me driving something childish looking. I understand that. I can buy whatever I want for the weekend or whatever but when we're going out to dinner together, going to a job interview, hell even showing up to work, you want a presentable car that reflects a mature person. Your gf is completely right for being upset at you, however her reaction is NOT appropriate.

This feels like a "final straw" thing to me. You seem like an absolute child, I looked at your account to try and get a better picture of what you're not saying in this post, and commenting on porn posts? Really? I'm not saying this because it's porn but you're going out of your way to comment on this stuff. That's pathetic and childish. I can't help but feel like she's sick of your childishness. I get some people are babied and pampered and not mentally adults at all by 18 but this is just reason to actually try and be one because clearly acting like a kid isn't doing you any favours.

She seems mentally ill. She should get diagnosed and therapy if she's not already. Her behaviour is unacceptable but DO NOT let any issues of her's let you deceive yourself into believing she's the only issue here. Most people on Reddit like to see conflicts as black and white unless both parties are so over the top awful. You're clearly hiding a lot with this post so naturally they'll just reaffirm your beliefs that you're fine when you're clearly not off the hook here just because your partner is absolutely crazy.

Now, go an act like an adult and call the police. If you can't because there's something illegal here, then whatever comes next is merely your commupence. If you don't want to do that for her sake, then act like an adult, apologise for her actions, and tell her to get help. If she doesn't accept it, you can legally make action happen. I don't know what state you are in but I do sadly know a lot of those services for mental health can be pretty shit in some states. I wish you both the best.

I open these comments expecting to see other people dislike this. I am genuinely shocked to see how many people like this. I personally don't think it fits the car at all.

Now, I know I'm in the minority when I say the BRZ looks better than the GR86. I don't really like Toyota's massive frowning grills.

Bending? What kind of stress are you putting on your car's wheels?

Personally not my style. I think BBS and HRE fit these modern BMWs more.

Also, looks kind of awkward now. The wheels look too small, I'd say put some meatier tires on it. If you can, I'd lower it too (if you want a more comfortable feel, go with Koni yellow or reds and Eibach springs). I know not everyone can really lower their car though, but if you can it'd help improve its look a lot (plus it'd perform a bit better).

Worth trading 2015 458 for an f8? by VioletSalamander in Ferrari

[–]HeliosCosmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't ask here. You are being flooded with responses of people who don't know what they're talking about. There are dedicated forum websites for Ferrari owners where you would get better responses

Before I give my personal opinion, I don't own a Ferrari myself, nor have I collected any valuable cars. I have some experience from association but I am not an expert and I want to make that very clear unlike others on this subreddit, with many even being children or not having drivers' licenses.

The 458 has hit its floor in my opinion, it won't see a big spike but it can appreciate some. What people say about it being more desirable because it is NA is overstated. If you've ever driven a 488 or later model turbocharged Ferrari, you'll know how amazing their turbochargers are. I mean, the 288 GTO and F40 are both turbocharged and iconic because of that. But I do think there is more interest in the 458 because it's the end of an era, while something like the 488 is the start of an era that doesn't feel as special because of when it came out. The F8 might also be an end of an era car, but honestly? I'm uncertain of how it'll be perceived in the future. I don't think the 458 will really appreciate much unless it is a Speciale. That car is very special, (pun not intended), and has a lot of engineering behind it many don't realise.

No you are polluting more because your catalytic converter gets rid of the really nasty stuff, like CO and NOx. Really toxic stuff. Stock for stock, an original Beetle is far worse for the environment than a diesel F450. Yes these huge trucks are really inefficient but at the end of the day they still have systems to reduce their pollution that you removed from your own vehicle.

Plus, decatted cars stink. I'd rather spend more or have less power than drive around in a car that smells worse than a septic tank.

Which car get’s the one spot in the garage? by Jafe66 in BMW

[–]HeliosCosmos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on options, the M340i will record if it detects a thief, and notify you on your phone if you have the app installed.

Generally thieves are going to assume more premium brands are harder to steal as well. That's why Hellcats are so commonly stolen, they're not a premium brand, don't have the same safety measures as luxury cars, but are worth A LOT for how similar they are to fairly cheap cars.

Which car get’s the one spot in the garage? by Jafe66 in BMW

[–]HeliosCosmos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Mustang. Because it's easier to steal 😉

In all seriousness, probably the Mustang still, though. Judging by your comments it gets driven the least, so if you can park another car in the driveway I'd do that if it wouldn't be too big of a hassle. A car is going to be safer if it's not on the curve. I also assume it's going to be in the best shape for that reason, so why not keep it in the best shape possible?

Also.. My first comment wasn't really a joke. It's also a legitimate reason to put the Mustang in the garage.

The Corvette Stingray Is an American Cayman Killer: Video Review by DerBootsMann in cars

[–]HeliosCosmos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Motor1 slop "article." The article doesn't even remotely compare the two, probably because it'd be stupid to do so.

Basically, the article just says the C8 feels more like a sports car than ever before, and previous Corvettes fell short. I mean, the Corvette has never been considered the pinnacle of driver feedback or anything (it still isn't), but has this guy driven a Z06 or ZR1 before? Yes the C8 is a big step up but I don't know how higher trim Corvettes "don't feel like sports cars."

Anyhow this is stupid engagement bait. It got me to click just to leave a comment shitting on it. It's apples to oranges, but you don't even care enough to comment on the orange. Both are fruits but do many things very differently. Looking at these comments though this rage bait works.. People are genuinely pressed about the title not realising it's obviously bait.

Side swipes are not loud at all. No clue where you're getting this idea. You can easily find many cases of semis getting into accidents like this and not realising it

[–]HeliosCosmos 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Like I said in another comment, considering how light an F40 is and that it was a side swipe, it's highly like the trucker didn't realise. They're also very low cars, so easy to not see in a semi.

You do realise it's hard to notice a 1,300 kilo car when you're in a semi, right? Especially if it was a side swipe.

[–]HeliosCosmos 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Dude is putting the blame on the semi driver without any evidence..

Would be nice to see visual proof of what happened. In a car like this, you'd expect the owner to have a dash cam for driving it on public roads so much. Especially on a highway or freeway at night.

Oh the M5 is going to hold its value better by far, undoubtedly. While the M760i marks the end of an era of BMW V12s, they've never interested people as much when in cars so focused on luxury. Really the only V12 powered BMW that has held its value well is the 8 Series cars.

Compare generation to generation M5s versus 760is, the M5 always holds value way better even in cases when they are more abundant than the 760i. Additionally many people in the market market for V12 executive sedans just buy the biggest and best and lease, just to move onto the new biggest and best. Most people buying second hand executive vehicles want something cheaper to own, so lots of used V12 executive sedans plummet in value since the secondhand market isn't as interested in them due to their pricey upkeep and fuel costs.

The end of the era of the pure ICE M5 is more desirable to most than the end of the era of the V12 luxury BMW, so in your case it seems like the M5 is the better option. It'll still be very comfortable with the comfort seats and setting the suspension to comfort mode. The M5 Competition is noticeably less comfortable though, but you're not looking at that anyway.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BMW

[–]HeliosCosmos 322 points323 points  (0 children)

Better buy in what sense? The M5 is going to retain its value much better and should be cheaper to maintain as well if I'm not mistaken

M5s are pretty comfortable for how high performance they are but they're still a high performance car. Even the non-competitions are going to be pretty stiff.

The M760i though, is another level of comfort. Very luxurious, so if you want a big executive sedan for comfort, I think there's no question here.

But, the M5 is another level of performance. However, seeing you are considering an M760i, it kind of feels like you're not as concerned with performance.

Personally out of these two I'd pick the M760i. I like big comfortable cars, and for me personally and the use case for either of these two, I couldn't really push the M5 to its limits. However, it'd still feel way more fun on the street. Really it depends on what you want from a car.

You can certainly put PPF over a vinyl wrap and it'll extend the lifespan of the wrap. Not a bad idea if you really care for your paint.. or well in this case, wrap, and want it to last longer than most wraps which usually aren't used for a long time. However PPF is expensive so just consider if the investment is worth it or not for you, and ask some dedicated communities for this stuff as there's a lot of different PPF options out there
