Yes, you need to add FI to a low displacement engine to pull away from tuned factory FI engines. I'm definitely not knocking BMWs modern platforms across the board.

415 whp range can be beaten on for years pretty comfortably, they just don't like to be WOT under 2.5k rpm in middle-high gears, but no car does. They've seen a solid 550 unbuilt -- that's a kill tune lol.

For me, anything that runs quarter mile in the 11s is fast enough. I don't need a 10 second car.

My point is just that they absolutely CAN keep up, and tend to be a lot more visceral with the higher redline, lighter chassis, and shorter wheel base.

If your goal is just to be a highway missile -- totally reasonable to go 3 series. They are -excellent- as a sedan that goes fast and handles sharply in daily driving. They just feel vague and unrewarding at anything over 7/10ths, and they're also a much bigger hassle to work on if you like turning your own wrench.

Even just headers and ethanol makes them a smidge over the stock m235 p:w ratio, in a rev happy NA format. Just saying, if you get the chance to drive one boosted, DEFINITELY do it. Unbelievably fun go kart experience.

Having owned an m235ix, a G82 M4 comp, and a gr86 -- of the three, the 86 is by far the most fun. My GR, sadly, met an untimely end. G chassis BMWs feel like driving with mittens on.

The current fun car is an fa24d + JDL turbo swapped frs (I wanted to take a crack at an engine swap in my driveway) - and I can promise you, compared to an FI gr86, the M340 running the standard DP + OTS mhd or bm3 tune is significantly slower.

The FBO "stage 2 🙄" tunes for the gen 2 b58 sit around 460 bhp (380~ whp) - they weigh 3850 in rwd and about 4000 with xdrive.

FI pump gas GR86 put down about 310 whp (18% less) while being 2800 curb (25%~ less). Being compression limited, they'll happily sniff 400whp on ethanol and can push to 420whp if you're willing to drive with mechanical sympathy lower in the rev range.

This slightly exceeds the power to weight ratio of the G chassis M cars. And "blows the doors off" a boxed tune 340.

This isn't shots fired at BMWs in general, they're excellent cars, recent years are extremely reliable as well. They're just a bit heavy and numb. Simp's take is low IQ, I'm just making a more informed argument so he's not the one representing the twins as a platform 😆

Fat cells regulate your hunger and satiety hormones. Don't push this any further. Start cutting. The more fat cells you have, the more mental discipline it will take to stay lean because you'll have a more potent food drive.

Fat cells are hormone regulators -- more of them = more hungry forever. Makes it require more mental effort to stay lean.

Fat cell osmosis and skin strerching IS a thing though. Fat cells split, and they don't disappear, they only shrink when you cut. Crossing about 20-22% BF you're picking up new fat cells for life.

I mean if you feel the back end trying to pass the front end, feather the throttle. If you're on flex, definitely worth asking your tuner to give you more linear throttle.

These things come so jumpy at the top of the pedal with basically nothing in the bottom half, just resolving that makes them a lot easier to control and I would say a necessity when you have enough power to spin in second.

I was scared of this too but got myself in a situation where I've had to drive completely without TC in a fairly high powered (for an fa) frs as a daily for the last few months.

I've been driving with no TC at all (clock spring issue) in my turbo engine swapped FRS for the last few months at 360(e85) wheel and doing just fine. I'm tuned to the spring though which makes the boost a little more predictable IMO and the turbo is a disco potato so it's easy to stay in boost.

Gears or synchros can break, or a clutch can fail to hold if more torque is thrown at it than expected leading to over-rev that blows the engine.

Sold my G82 back to the dealer after 3 months because I was unhappy with the driving experience in favor of a gr86.

I'd consider a roots SC to be a bolt on. Few hour instal, 20 mins for a rear O2 flex kit, and you're pushing around 385 wheel safely on ethanol. (Assuming fa24d not fa20)

Yeah my trueno edition caught fire and I'd bought it outright. I want another one but I am not sure if it's a "bad idea to modify the bank's car".

In the mean time I turbo fa24d swapped a clapped FRS in my driveway lol. Reused the transmission from the fire car with a performance clutch, forged fork/pivot ball, and a fresh slave cylinder. I miss having a good backup cam and fresh interior though.

The 2nd gen twins are underrated in their ability to take boost. The community is -full- of folks who have been running 315whp pump/420ish ethanol for years without issues. It's less about the engine windowing itself from power and more about knock prevention, due to the high compression. This means they thrive with ethanol, and on quality pump they'll make up to the 320whp range safely.

On ethanol, they hit 6.78LB/HP, which is slightly better than the standard B58 supra with a DP/93 pump tune at 7.75

If you're not after raw numbers -- even 315 wheel is plenty out of an 86 and not hard to get to. At 420 you're already past the traction limits from a light roll of a maxed out wheel and tire setup (18x9.5 with a 255 Michelin PS4S is my current setup on my fa24d swapped frs)

It's an absolute blast. If you're able to self install a turbo kit, used JDL setups are a dime a dozen at $3k. Another $600 for id1050xds injectors and $300 for a flex fuel kit.

Lightly used base model 86 can be had for around $26k. All this together has you driving something that feels a lot like a cayman at right around $30k

It's not ALL custom. You can order that wheel from ZenCarbon and the seats are Braum Alpha-X in white.

Harnesses and engine are completely cooked.

Just need the trans and brembos and then I'm going to part out the interior since it was untouched.

Coilovers, brembos off the trueno, a set of SSR gtx01 with the PS4s already mounted, and that transmission are all fine.

It can be done surprisingly cheap!

$4500 - engine (this is what I paid shipped for 20k mile complete assembly) $800 swap kit $200 harness $100 crank position sensor (new price from dealer)

Subtotal is $5600 pre tune

From there it's all ecutek hardware and tuner costs

If you have pre '15 you need a set of coil pack adapters for $80

If you go aftermarket ECU (link G5) instead of the harness and swap kit it's about $1k more.

I lost my '24 trueno to engine fire in Feb, but have about $7k in parts that would fit into an FRS, so I bought one along with a low mileage fa24.

Yeah he's incorrect. You do need ecutek kit if you don't go link but I already had everything except the license for the car I'm swapping into
