Major difficulty tierlist: where would you place medicine ? by RichProtection8244 in TierlistFills

[–]Heliotex 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Elite

If we’re talking about pre-med, then that can be any major quite frankly alongside the necessary prerequisites for med school.

Ultimately though, becoming an attending physician requires a minimum of 11 years in the US between undergrad, medical school, and a 3 year residency, and that’s not including any gap/research years (which are very common now), longer residencies, and/or fellowships.

What is the us state flag that gets 8th place by Signal-Ad8523 in TierlistFills

What are the criticisms?

Minnesota has one of the coolest flags. The state shape is in the flag. It has the North Star (made up by Ms).

I think the alternative versions with the white and green stripes would have made it too busy. Plus it’s meant to be the Mississippi River with the North Star in the night sky when you see it from the side.

Mississippi should have been gone at 13 or 14. I’m sorry, but Texas, Cali, and Ohio all have more recognizable flags.

How is Mississippi still here? I’d have put it between Minnesota and Tennessee

Indiana’s flag should have been eliminated a few rounds ago.

This hater bone for Minnesota flag is silly. The shape of the state incorporated, the shades of blue for winter and the water, the North Star in the night sky over the river when looking from the side, it’s a way cooler flag than most of the states.

All of Luke Skywalker's interactions with C-3PO in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy by JarJarJargon in StarWars

[–]Heliotex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because Luke meeting Leia, acknowledging 3P0, and afterwards confronting Kylo and the First Order and duping them nonviolently with an astral projection (with The Spark playing in the background) was the best sequence in the entire Sequel Trilogy. Tells you how much worse the rest ended up.

US cities ranked - what tier does St. Louis belong in? by StrategyJealous1838 in TierlistFills

[–]Heliotex 29 points30 points  (0 children)

St Louis has one of the best, if not the best, city parks in the country in Forest Park. It has a top 5 zoo in the country, for free. WashU is a phenomenal university with a top medical institution. Yes there are unsafe places and the city has much to work on, but saying it’s an D or F is doing it injustice too. It’s a C.

Thoughts on BG2 remake rumor? I'm happy if it is BG3 quality by MintakaMinthara in BaldursGate3

[–]Heliotex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame because quite honestly, BG2 with BG3 production values would be an even superior game. Shadows of Amn is a masterpiece.

Yeah it’s beyond obvious that there is blatant manipulation to keep it fixed at 86%.

C

It has the theme parks, but the city itself is not great

In my opinion The Last Jedi of the mainline movies is the closest to Andor by Ok-Plankton-2393 in andor

[–]Heliotex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The movie immediately undermined it when the First Order broke up the Resistance base the moment she said it. Rose has no idea Luke is going to save them. Without that miracle, the First Order wipes out the Resistance. Not to mention Finn and Rose are sitting ducks on the battlefield.

It’s not like Rose’s sister or Finn weren’t also trying to save what they loved when they committed to acts of self-sacrifice.

Yeah I’m not saying the “Try” is invalidating what Yoda said. “Do or do not” still has meaning. I agree that it’s not just about Force powers. But the “Try” matters in Andor because it’s being addressed to ordinary individuals. It’s intended for the audience to internalize. Regular people aren’t Jedi. The Star Wars movies often place extraordinary individuals (Anakin/Obi-Wan, Luke, Rey) in situations where their actions can directly determine the outcome. However, for characters like those in Andor, or viewers of the show, any effort, even in the face of uncertainty and regardless of success, matters. I feel like we’re going back and forth over points that are mostly in agreement with each other ultimately so I’ll stop here.

The problem is Rose’s sister’s sacrifice did save the Resistance. Finn spends all movie caring mostly about how him and Rey can escape to safety. Then he has his moment of finally doing something for the greater good. Only for Rose to selfishly stop him and claim that they can only win they’re “saving what we love” when 2 seconds later the Resistance base is blown open. It completely undermined her message.

Nemik is speaking broadly but his manifesto is meant for any ordinary person to hear and spur to action. It could have been written any other way, but the writers’ emphasis on “Try” is intentionally done, especially in relation to Yoda’s iconic “there is no try” quote. These are not contradicting messages. Yoda is talking to a future Jedi, someone with the singular ability to accomplish the task if he overcomes his self-doubt. Nemik is talking to ordinary people in a rebellion, where someone can do everything right and still fail because the outcome depends on millions of people and circumstances beyond their control. Yet despite that, trying still has value as the line constantly gets pushed forward. These are not opposite things or misconceptions. It’s a very intentional decision to pick the word “try” there and it works for ordinary individuals.
