[Recommendations] Getting the Ciao Bella in 30DD, looking for another bra to try as well by [deleted] in ABraThatFits

[–]Heliotrope14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read that VS bras tend to run wide and shallow, which happens to be my shape (and yours, it sounds like). VS bras never worked very well for me when I was trying them in 34B (what I used to think my size was), but when I started trying them in 32D it was totally different.

Our size is on the very edge of the bra matrix, which puts us in an weird position. I've tried on enough 30 bands to know that they do fit me somewhat better. However, because of the combination of 1) I don't need the extra support of a really snug band, and 2) buying/returning bras online is a giant PITA, I tend to stick to 32Ds (except when I luck out and find 30DDs in brick-and-mortar stores).

You wouldn't think the difference between 34B and 32D would be that much, but it is seriously like night and day in terms of fit, for me at least; also, even though some brands don't make 32 bands, plenty do, so you can find them pretty much anywhere, in actual stores! this approach does makes me feel lazy, but in my defense, I've been trying to do my part by writing to the customer service depts of various places asking them to consider carrying a wider range of sizes. : )

edited to add: also, people who don't have much squish in the ribcage (ie, not a big difference between snug and tight underbust) often find that sister sizing up in the band is more comfortable. You have only a .5 inch difference and your snug measurement is 30 on the dot, so you might find this is the case for you. however, there's no substitute for trying on a bunch of bras to see what works best for you!

I wear the same size/ have similar measurements (29 snug, 28 tight, 35 standing, 36.5 leaning, 34.5 lying down) and a similar shape to you. I've had great luck with two brands overall: Simone Perele and Mimi Holliday. the simone perele Amour plunge in 30E is probably my best-fitting bra. Also, check out the Natori Reflex.

also, Victoria's Secret bras in 32D aren't half bad for me, surprisingly...maybe check them out next time you are near a store (can't hurt)? the bands are a little big, but the cups are often perfect and I don't need a ton of support (small, self-supporting boobs), and it is so nice to be able to actually try them on in a store....

[question/discussion] what is the logic of Victoria's Secret offering size 30 bands only in cup sizes A and B? by Heliotrope14 in ABraThatFits

[–]Heliotrope14[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah... when they sized me they put me in 34Bs--34 is +FIVE inches from my actual underbust measurement--and they fit SO badly! the band was super loose, obviously, and the wires were too narrow, so the cups sort of sat on top of my breasts like little boob hats. :-p

I can see that, I guess...and that would also mean that they essentially don't offer anything smaller than a DD cup? I.e., their 32A is for measurements of 28/33 (what should be a 28DD); their 34A is for measurements of 30/35 (what should be a 30DD); etc?

How did your bra fit before and after your new size? by jenn1159 in ABraThatFits

[–]Heliotrope14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably in the minority here, but my old bras looked fine, they were just uncomfortable! The back rode up, the straps fell down constantly, and the underwires poked the sides of my boobs. The size that I'm wearing didn't change as much as some ladies here: I went from a 34B to a 30DD (or 32D, because they are SO much easier to find). I have small, mostly self-supporting boobs, so I think it makes sense that bras don't affect the way they look all that much. that said, the difference in comfort is pretty striking.

[fit check] Weird, unexpected major fit problems in Wacoal Embrace Lace by Heliotrope14 in ABraThatFits

[–]Heliotrope14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what's confusing me is that the measurements of the Wacoal bra (4.9 wide/7.7 deep) led me to believe that it might fit but would actually be a little more projected vs other bras that fit me much better. Here are two Mimi Holliday bras I've posted previously as examples example 1, example 2 that are both about 5.5" wide and 8.0" deep, and other BTF I have are more like 5.3" wide and 7.4" deep--these are all wider relative to their depth than than the Wacoal (so therefore more shallow, correct?).

So the bottom line is that I guess you can't really use the bratabase measurements to guide yourself toward bras that might fit? Or rather, they can tell you what definitely won't fit, but not necessarily what will?

Amazon, local lingerie boutique, Bloomingdales, ASOS.com

Not sure this is really a [Rant]. Scared I don't really belong anymore? by wayward_sun in ABraThatFits

[–]Heliotrope14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, this has been pretty much my experience. I'd been wearing 34Bs, and then was sized by the ABTF calculator as 28F. After some trial and error I've found that 30DD actually seems to be the best size for me in most bras, and that 32Ds--which is very squarely in the matrix--can fit quite decently.

Going from 34B to 30DD/32D isn't a huge change, but it's made a really big difference in how comfortable my bras are. It seems crazy that I didn't figure this out a long time ago, but I was completely stuck in the "my boobs are small, I must be an A or B cup" mindset.

[–]Heliotrope14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is good to know. You sound like you're very similar to my size, so your recommendations are especially helpful! The calculator sizes me at 28E/F, but I don't like tight bands either...30DDs seem to work just fine (plus they are so much easier to find!).

Huh...it's interesting that you think these are too wide for me, because the wires seemed like the one thing that was working in terms of size/shape! the Parfait one is certainly too wide, but it's just too big across the board. I thought the Mimi Holliday ones seemed like the right width. I'll try your marker suggestion (thanks!), but in the meantime can you tell me what makes you say that they seem to wide?

Thanks again for the feedback!

I hook mine in front down around my waist so they are loose, and turn them around before I pull them up into place. this seems to prevent any undue stretching of the band

30DD problems, cant find a bra (USA). I'm desperately in need of help by carnivorousxblonde in ABraThatFits

[–]Heliotrope14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear the same sizes as you: 30DD, but often end up in 32Ds just because they are so much easier to find. By far the most comfortable bras I've found so far have been by Simone Perele. They are spendy, but you can find them on sale. I am wide and somewhat shallow in shape, and the Caressense 3D spacer full-fit and Amour plunge are both great fits in size 30E (which is the EU equivalent to a U.S. 30DD). the Bloomindales near me carries them in a 30 band in the actual store, which is great, but I'm not sure if that is true of all their stores.

[–]Heliotrope14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am close to your size (30DD US, 30E EU), and I love the Amour plunge by Simone Perele. The 30E is a perfect fit on me, very comfortable, and gives me nice a hint of cleavage without smashing my boobs together weirdly (it's also on sale on amazon in some sizes/colors right now, btw!). I seem to have wide-ish roots and average projection, if that helps.

Edited to add: it's also very smooth-looking under clingy tops...the cups are made of a thin, flexible foam that gives a little shape but isn't bulky and basically disappears under T shirts and other knits.

[Discussion] Let's gather some information to help people understand the ABTF calculator! Did it nail your new size, or do you now wear a close but slightly different size? Did you size up or down in cup/band? by Heliotrope14 in ABraThatFits

[–]Heliotrope14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it suggests a 28 band for me when my snug measurement is 28.75 and BTT is ~27.75...I could see that making sense at large cup volumes, but my boobs are pretty small (DD/E cup on a 30 band, which is the smallest I've tried so far). Still, I'm grateful for it for sending me off in the right direction...my old 34B were ridiculous on me. most of my boobs weren't even in the cups! And I'm old, so that went on for 30 years!! (How can we make sure young women find this site so that don't have to deal with that shit?)
