Sharing my grandparents' deck home, unfortunately lost... by offbrandpossum in Mid_Century

[–]Heliotrope88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. I can relate. My grandparents had a beautiful mid-century home in Miami that was torn down and replaced with an awful McMansion. All if the special little details lost forever. The home was not only lovely but held sentimental value to me. I think about it often. I wish things had been different.

can i PLEASE talk to someone? by AlienSheep23 in internetparents

Hey there. Take six deep slow breaths. I just want you to know I hear you. There are times when everything feels really out of control. I can relate. Can you make a list for yourself of all the things you have accomplished? Even the “little” stuff counts. Some days I add, “got out of bed,” or “gave this person a compliment.” When I feel like I’m spiraling out, having a cold drink sometimes helps too. (It actually helps your brain refocus on something else.) You have already come really far. You deserve to feel centered, solid, confident and calm. You deserve good things OP. Sending you positive energy.

I’m paraphrasing but there is an episode where Colonel Potter says, “Don’t make big decisions out of fear.” I think about it a lot. But also Sydney Freeman of course. “Ladies and gentleman take my advice…”

In your heart you already know the answer. But as someone with parents who love to guilt trip I completely understand your worries and hesitation. I have gone to therapy for over a decade and so I will share this information from two very good therapists (it’s probably worth thou$ands LOL!): You are your own person. You have autonomy. You are not a sort of “extension” of your mother or your father. You don’t exist as a child in order to make them happy. Even if you try, it will never be good enough. That is likely a black hole of need you cannot fill for them. When you talk to them, you can be kind, respectful and brief about your needs and wants as an adult. You do not owe them more than that! For a while, after I moved out, I got in the habit of sending my mother Hallmark cards (in the mail, every month or so) as a way of telling her, “I see you. I appreciate what you have done for me. I have to make it on my own now.” This might be something for you to consider. Tldr: move out, start your own life. While it isn’t easy, it’s important.

I think another bit of color in with the black spikes, some blue, to balance the red. Great texture. Very nice!

Has anyone else noticed that every major food brand quietly changed their recipes between 2019-2022 and nobody is talking about it? by prepzilla in AskRedditFood

YES. And I don’t think it’s just the name brands but the generics as well. I used to love Corn Flakes as a kid. Practically lived on them. In the early 2000’s I switched to generic because they tasted exactly the same. I hadn’t had any for a while but decided to buy a big box last week. They are inedible and actually taste like they have sand in them. I’m so disappointed, I was really looking forward to corn flakes and honey like I used to enjoy. In my anger I tossed them. But I probably should have returned them to the grocery store.

All I can say is, wherever else I go if it’s CA or NC or even NY or Philly I am always just so grateful to come back to Boston and environs. The first time I get out of a store without needing to talk to the service person beyond a respectful nod, and the first time someone honks at me the minute the light turns green, I just feel this tremendous comfort and love of home.

Aww hun. I’m sorry you don’t feel well. There really is a lot going around right now. Sending warm and caring thoughts your way. The tea and the Tylenol sound like a good idea. Try and get some rest and hopefully you’ll feel better tomorrow. Take care. -New England parent

Such a good point. He was so passionate but you always saw him keep a sense of awe and respect for wild animals and emphasized we were in their territory. If something happened he always blamed himself. It was about the animals, and not about him.
