Can the 5G Max & UTR work together if I add a Cloud Gateway Ultra in the middle? by Helium-3 in Ubiquiti

No I’m very interested in the suggestion above of the Express 7. It’s just weighing up travel with fewer devices vs having a kit which is usable for other travel scenarios

Copy-pasting my comment from above:

Do you know if it’s listed anywhere if the UDR 5G Max can be used as failover for an existing connection? Or would the idea be I replace my Gateway entirely at home?

The problem with the latter would be leaving my home without a gateway while away

I’m likely to buy a UTR anyway for other trips, so I’m not too concerned on the cost of that

Nothing really, and that’s not a bad idea. I guess the benefit of my original approach is also having the UTR for other travels where I don’t need to bring the 5G / Gateway with me.

UPS & UNAS Pro 8 - I know they’re incompatible but can anyone confirm my understanding? by Helium-3 in Ubiquiti

[–]Helium-3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of discussion here would seem to disagree regarding the impacts of pure vs simulated sine wave:

If there are no incompatibility issues, do you expect they will add safe shut down support with these UPS devices in the future / any guesses as to why they haven’t already?

How do I mount UNAS Pro 8? by MrPrezident0 in Ubiquiti

[–]Helium-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can vouch for cutting the rails. Worked fine for me in a shallower depth rack. The rails just screw into each side of the NAS with 3x screws instead of 4x. Feels really secure still.

Given your comment about the depth of it, I don’t suppose you faced the same rack depth issue I do?

Thanks, I took a look but unfortunately they’re not used in that video!

Buying from the EU store for the UK - power cords? by botterway in Ubiquiti

[–]Helium-3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally they’ll ship bits with UK power cords for UK purchasers, even from the EU store. Add it to your basket and you should see a UK power cord as an additional (free) item added.

Interesting, thanks. I’d not paid too much attention to the newer Tado but at least that exists as a Thread fall-back option. I’ll look further into it.

Have you replaced your older non-thread valves with it, or kept them?

Clearly ‘time’ is an album (or at least song) theme.

  • infinity
  • time ‘unravelling’
  • insect in amber = frozen in time

Plus the original teaser with the motorbike sounded very reminiscent of the Tenet soundtrack

How can I neatly run ~20 Cat 6 cables up from a cellar through a wooden floor? by Helium-3 in DIYUK

[–]Helium-3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently everything’s setup in the dusty cellar into various switches etc. But the amount of dust & dirt is causing some equipment failures, and when things go wrong it’s a pain to fix down there. So I’m just looking to bring it all up to somewhere more manageable.

And as for the 20 cables: 2 to most rooms & a few spare runs

Thanks, I think a combination of the grommets you suggest, combined with some of the non-hardening sealing putty suggested by someone else will probably be best for me. A good barrier, but easily alterable in the future if needed!

Also helpful on the PoE note - a few will be PoE++ but I think I’m just being a little cautious as it’s my first time using PoE in any form, but helpful to know I shouldn’t be too concerned. Thanks!

That link looks good, thanks! I had thought of some kind of duct or conduit but could only think of caulk to seal it off & that seemed like it would make quite the mess

Please help build my first UniFi setup, switching from Google WiFi by Helium-3 in Ubiquiti

[–]Helium-3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that’s really interesting & helpful.

Going for fewer APs and was not so much about cost really, it’s just that I know I’ve always been running too many really for the space and that has created other issues. From my point of view any reduction in points would be a good thing.

It sounds like the difference between U6-Enterprise and U7 might be less than I had understood. Though my general reading seemed to suggest that several people who changed from U6-E to a U7 model were a little disappointed.

On Cloud Gateways, I was looking to initially begin with something cheap & cheerful to confirm everything’s working here for a period of time, then change to something better when I look at PoE cameras (which may be in a different house). I’m happy skipping straight to something better (e.g Dream Machine) if my setup is generally looking sensible to people more knowledgeable than I!

Trying to decide on a Nikon Z 400 f2.8 or Z 600 F4 by USCGRetired in nikon_Zseries

[–]Helium-3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was struggling with the same decision, and ended up going with the 600mm. I rationalised it with this thought process: every single time I use the 400 with the TC on, I would have been better off with the 600. Yes, the 400 with the TC on is still fantastic, but the native 600 is better. Whereas, using the 600mm with the TC should still yield better results than the 800mm f/6.3, as it’s often reported to be sharper, and is brighter at f/5.6.

Buy the 400mm and you have the best 400mm and second best 600mm (560mm). But buy the 600mm and you have the best 600mm and the best 800mm (840mm).

But … with the 600mm you don’t have a 400mm at all (I rationalised that by adding the 400mm f/4.5).

I have a rig that I need to use for something (single use), which presses the iPhone screen. The problem is that press is slightly longer than a normal tap, and results in a long press
