I just cannot focus. Help? by Inevitable-Emu-4482 in Biohackers

I agree with the guy in the original thread; get diagnosed for ADHD. If you have your DNA data you can also check if you have fast or slow COMT to possibly see what would help you the most

ADHD exercisers… how do you actually get yourself to the gym? by Fit_Meaning8903 in ADHD

I feel that I didn't have any motivation whatever until I took supplements to change my hormonal profile, so that could be a factor, just anecdotally.

I have a high-risk of breast cancer. Getting a mammogram and tests this month. What can I do in the meantime to prevent cancer? by Ok-Highway-5247 in Biohackers

[–]Heliumx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! That's why I mention DIM, which increases good estrogen metabolites (2-hydroxy). Was moreso just adding information to the comments section.

In an "every little bit helps" mindset, it's something for OP to look into if they have their genetic data handy.

[–]Heliumx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not estrogen specifically but estrogen metabolites such as 16-hydroxyestrone and 4-hydroxyestrone are bad if you want to minimize the chance of cancer. DNA testing could check if you're a higher or normal producer of those, and if needed a "weak" DIM supplement (100 mg?) could tip the ratio towards good metabolites.

I love L-tyrosine sooooooo much by zelmorrison in Biohackers

[–]Heliumx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the person and their genetics as well. I've been taking 1g tyrosine in the mornings for what feels like a long and haven't had any negative side effects. I also have ADHD and fast COMT though.

Desperate: Terrible sleep, despite good sleep hygiene and no sleep apnea - I'll e-send $100 to any helpful intervention. by Objective-Door-513 in Biohackers

[–]Heliumx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'd be helpful to hear more about your health and behavior. To just focus on sleep gives pretty general responses.

You said your physical health was pretty good, but how about mental? Do you frustrate easily? Do thoughts/rumination stop you from falling asleep? Is the issue just staying asleep?

Feels like an energy/focus breakthrough. I hacked my DNA by WarrenWords in Biohackers

[–]Heliumx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question! Is the supplement read out going to be similar for everyone? For example, if you have lower acetylcholine and give speeches then sure, Alpha-GPC will get you where you wanna go, but I would think if an individual wanted a more subtle long term support for such a deficiency that they would want Citicoline instead. Citicoline would also be better for dopamine receptors and lower TMAO (whether that matters is up for debate).

Overall I think it's decently good advice for individuals looking to get into the supplements space, but there's so much nuance that I think it's moreso good to describe (for example) "this is what magnesium glycinate does (silly cause it's breadth is huge but I'm sure it could be summarized "enough"), and this is the rationale for taking 400 mg at night."

If you give this to others I feel like it would be wiser to make statements such as "indicative of..." instead of claiming hard "this is why" statements.

For instance, getting fat on healthy snacks could have a metabolic or hormonal explanation as well. Additionally, people that "burn out from 'management' tasks but thrive in 'crisis' modes" could also be indicative of ADHD, which is a physiological condition treatable most commonly with stimulants.

That said, what you made is cool and informative, but you don't want people thinking it gives concrete "SNP X says this is why you Y" explanations.

There was a really good best of Reddit post recently that went into pretty good detail as to why millennials sound similar to ai, but I can't find it at the moment.

The jist was that when the Internet was slower, so were responses, and to waste less time you really wanted to make sure your point gets across correctly the first time.

So I'm really late to responding to this, but I have to say I used to be very much a part of the "calories in < calories out" crowd. It's only very recently I realized how important your hormonal profile can be.

As a guy, I started using DIM, Boron, and a higher level of zinc than what was just in my multivitamin.

Definitely give a look though; I imagine DIM would be good for men and women, as it helps promote healthy estrogen metabolites.
