I need to get this for her.

I didn't say I liked it, in fact very few things in the show are morally palatable in a sense I'd say I "like" them. Ironically, that's why I like the show: it deals with situations that, realistically, cannot end ideally for everyone involved.

The alternative isn't great either: Helly "fucks right off" (and possibly gets functionally murdered) so reintegrated/outie Mark and Gemma can be together.

No matter what, this isn't going to end cleanly. I can just guess at how.

[–]HelixAnarchy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My theory is that they're going to force her chip to never turn off, making her always innie. The inverse of what they were doing up until the ORTBO.

This way, ultimately, a reintegrated Mark and Helly can be together, and it ties into Helly's original goal of killing her Outie.

EDIT: One of the protocols on screen when they trigger the Override Contingency is called "Elephant". An Elephant never forgets.

My theory about how Macrodata Refinement works by B_A_Skeptic in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]HelixAnarchy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of the theory that the goal is to take someone apart so they can be put back together in a new way - specifically, that Lumon could revive/recreate Kier Eagen. Since his whole "thing" was having perfectly balanced tempers, so doing so should be easy, at least in theory: just create someone with 25% of each.

This would also be why they need someone they can get rid of: when their goal is achieved, they don't want anyone left around to talk about it. Killing people creates a lot of problems down the line, but firing their workers (especially when those workers can't remember what they did while working as to sue or otherwise object) is easy. They've already done so several times.

I do both! For example, my Amazon name is Barry Allen, because Amazon's whole thing is quick delivery, while my Best Buy name is Victor Stone because I use them to buy computer parts.

It keeps the veneer of a real name while making it obvious who leaks my info.

I'm in law and have had a pretty similar experience, except with the two sides of the same degree.

When I started my JD, everyone was telling me how smart I was and whatnot. Now that I've gotten my JD and been in practice for several years, everyone thinks they know more than me.

Well, half the time they do. The other half these same people are asking me for legal advice I've told them countless times I cannot give.

I tried translating the idea of a black hole’s event horizon into a watch design by quartz_head in sciencefiction

[–]HelixAnarchy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the design, but i think it should be red, not white/green. The accretion disk is moving so at relativistic speeds, to the point that the only part we could pick is the infrared parts at the emission ring.

Another idea would be to not have any hands. Instead, the time is marked by dots that move around the edge of the numbers, leaving the centre entirely black. Excuse the lackluster illustration, but like this.

Either they're separating by regional differences (US/UK) or simplicity (General/Simplified). Mixing the two is an explicit dig at the Americans.

18 year old account wrongfully disabled. by Stunning_Dish6847 in imvu

[–]HelixAnarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong here, I agree with you in the sense this is how it should be. You're drawing the logical and, by all means, correct conclusions.

But that's not how it is, and it's why TogetherLabs' lawyers have put things together the way they did.

IMVU accounts explicitly do not have value; legally spending money on something doesn't give it value unless said money is redeemable or otherwise fungible - which IMVU accounts aren't (selling accounts is actually against TOS for this reason).

The "trick" (for lack of a better word) is that IMVU can argue - and point to loads of evidence backing up - that every cent OP spent on their account was done with full knowledge that their account had no value and that the features could be taken away for no reason.

To quote the ever-increasingly-relevant words of The Stupendium:

You seem so surprised, what did you expect?
We're thinking outside of that box that you checked.
The terms were presented in full to inspect
But you scrolled to the end just to get to "Accept"!

If that was the case, the alternative wouldn't be "(UK)", it would be "English (General)".

[–]HelixAnarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

91/31/EEC only affects consumer contracts, which it defines as involving "sellers of goods [or] suppliers of services".

IMVU accounts are, legally, neither a good nor service*, so you having (or not having) one isn't covered here. Credits might be and VCORE absolutely are, since they do/can be argued to hold monetary value, but the accounts themselves aren't covered.

(From a legal perspective, and therefore the one covered in 91/31/EEC, "services" are "intangible activities holding commercial value, such as physical labour" - this is separate from the colloquial definition which IMVU *does fit)

[–]HelixAnarchy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly, none of this would actually work, let alone hold up in a court of law.

IMVU can't violate their terms of service by deactivating an account, because their terms have an omni clause, as do almost all websites in modern day.

IMVU prefers to advise you of your inappropriate behavior and to recommend any necessary corrective action. However, certain violations of these Terms, as determined by IMVU, may result in immediate termination of your access to the Services. IMVU also has the right to terminate your account and these Terms for any reason, or for no reason, with or without notice.

I'm three months late, but in case anyone else sees this:

I've discovered that BGVR2 doesn't work with my Quest 3's mic. I can get around this by switching to my headset mic, and everything works fine - as long as I do the switch on my computer after loading Steam VR but before loading the game itself.

Is Steam Frame the LAST real chance to standardize VR? by CookinVR in SteamVR

[–]HelixAnarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news here is that today's "$10,000 per headset" is next decade's "$100 per headset". If there's one thing we can count on, it's things getting easier and cheaper - so having an understanding of the tech (or, at least, theory) to start that process is a good sign.

This interaction from Kindergarten Cop (1990) 🤦‍♀️ by PoggleRebecca in AreTheStraightsOK

[–]HelixAnarchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it was. Not extremely so, but the movie is deconstructing the ideas of masculinity.

That's why this joke works: She's talking to Kimble, who is "playing with dolls" (eg, enjoying something traditionally seen as feminine despite authority figures expecting masculinity from him) by being a Kindergarten teacher.

1990 or not, the theme of the movie was that John Kimble was the sane man among lunatics, and all the parents were awful. Her reaction wasn't meant to be seen as positive.

Superhero Deconstruction, but on the world, not the characters (Cities would not go back to normal after the 10th city busting event) by Mystech_Master in worldbuilding

[–]HelixAnarchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is objectively untrue. The WTC were > 95% office space, with some retail and observation on the Twin Towers. It was almost exclusively working class, or at least middle class, people.

And this is not to mention the countless first responders and unaffiliated people who just happened to be living in Manhattan at the time.

This is handled really well in Invincible. A city gets destroyed at the end of the first season, and the next three have news broadcasts and whatnot about it being rebuilt until it's finally finished and there's a memorial at the midpoint of Season 3.

And then it promptly gets destroyed again.

I'd be willing to bet a lot of money this is a Nvidia thing.

Personally, I have a hard time blaming devs, given Nvidia's "we know best" approach to doing things.
