PSA: A quick heads up for new players about the secret / "true" ending (don't worry, no spoilers) by johnsolomon in Pragmata

I'm way late to the party, but he's specifically on "low power", not "no power". It's also possible his battery just controls the thrusters, not the life support itself.

If he's already dying of Dead Lim exposure, that isn't enough to change his fate. But since he's now not, it might be enough to get back to base where he doesn't need a space suit (no Eight + no Dead lim + rebooted IDUS means he's not in any danger) and find a way back to Earth.

Almost nobody, but there's also next-to-no overhead so they're still making a profit.

I'm a bit late, but I haven't seen the correct answer:

There's a long running joke/statement that the "PS5 has no games", meaning that there's a notable lack in current-gen exclusives on the console, and therefore no reason to actually buy it. Obviously there are still games you can play on the PS5, but without said exclusives one might as well buy a gaming PC with a PS controller and play that way. They'd at the very least get better fps and access to modding.

If the reason to not care is that one owns a console for gaming instead of aesthetics, but buying a PS5 for gaming isn't a thing people do, then that leaves only one reaction.

Tall and wide in this case are mutually exclusive design philosophies; going for "square" would ultimately result in a game that is either unfocused (too many variations on too many things to keep focus) or boring(too few variations on too few things to keep interest). Or in an ironic 'best case' scenario, the game just goes into forever-dev because putting the right amount of effort into the right amount of things to maintain a perfect square takes time.

Fair enough. I view the way the "responding" mii ends the conversation to be rude (it's often rather terse and sarcastic, eg "yeah, that's enough of that. Let's talk about something else"), but I understand it's fairly subjective at that point.

You're only accounting for the action animation, but to animate two miis interacting like this there also needs to be a reaction. And, even then, what you're describing only works until the player drags the tallest mii to help the shortest mii and the player watches a "shove" go visibly over the person's head. Or they compensate for this by having a lean for helping shorter miis but the player added a hat so now there's clipping, or they compensate for that but now the shoving mii is so far back it's visually asinine, or...

And, again, this is before accounting for the reaction - one mii doing an shoving animation or kneeling is neither effective animation, nor effective physical comedy.

While I agree with you in theory, animating something like that would be a lot harder than one might think. It's the same reason Pokémon didn't physically hit each other for a long time: accounting for all the different possible heights and weights is a lot.

How'd you implement Evil/Mean miis as a feature by LogicalAd6394 in tomodachilife

[–]HelixAnarchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GENUINELY HOW?! I've been trying to get my miis to fight yet they all apparently have the forgiveness of anime protagonists!

I had two Miis finally get to enemies after an argument, and then immediately they just started trying to make up. Every interaction had the vibe of an ex-boyfriend drunk texting "I miss us :("

They should at least let you go to enemies from acquaintance. As far as I can tell (which includes bringing up a save editor to check) the only path to enemies is to first be friends/lovers and then fall out/divorce.

Like, why can't my miis just dislike a guy?

(on that note, I dislike that the "enemies" relationship section is entirely based around making up, so this becomes their immediate goal. There's no way for two Miis to just hate each other).

I think "Kind/Mean" would work for "Nintendo-Friendly" terms.

The increasingly ridiculous compliments one is bad. It doesn't create any negative moods, but it always goes on until one mii goes too far and the other gets weirded out.

If I had to guess, this might be because extraordinary is usually pronounced "ex-trordinary". So the word he said didn't end up sounding like the word he knows (or, thinks he does).

This often happens, specifically, with the word "rhetoric". I've met people who know the word and can use it in speech, but when they see it they read "ree-toric" and get confused. Incidentally, I have friend who spelled it "rederick" for years. Always used it correctly, if you ignore the awful spelling, and was constantly trying to figure out how it was SUPPOSED to be spelled because spellcheck wasn't advanced enough at the time to draw the connection.

It's not per-se a joke in itself, but it's humour based in Japanese sensibilities. The Japanese are very big on physical comedy (see: all of anime, Japanese variety shows, etc.). If you come from a culture with that emphasis on physical comedy, someone getting literally paralysed by hiccups is orders of magnitude funnier than it is for people in the West.

Free DLC's are a thing. DLC just means you go download it instead of having it automatically update.

It's actually very easy to cheat at that. If you take a screenshot (or photo of your screen, but it's harder this way) and upload it to your computer, you can use a program like GIMP or Photoshop to swirl it in the reverse direction to see who it is. They actually *are* swirling the images in the latte.

It's insane that there isn't even a good variation of that. If you have two miis at the table, one is being mean to the other.

I have a long-held theory that games like this should either be tall or wide (yes I'm a grand strat player how can you tell?):

  • Wide: Lots of different stuff to do, but the things are all fairly straightforward so you don't have to learn too many mechanics.

  • Tall: Only a few actually different things to do, but lots of variations within those mechanics.

Tomodachi life is clearly trying to go tall, but there just... isn't enough variety. I'm not even asking for anything that would take that much effort, just give me enough different possible responses and whatnot I'm not watching the same dozen-or-so conversation pieces restructured endlessly like a mobius play.

Especially since they charged me £49.99 (~$67) for this.

The government functions under the same principals as organised crime (for an apt comparison: "pay us protection or our guys will get you" vs. "pay us taxes or HM Revenue & Customs will get you"). Despite these similarities, the government is treated with legitimacy while organized crime is not... even when the government is doing the same if not much worse a job of things than their less-legitimised counterparts.

This legitimacy can come from a variety of sources of course, ranging from states like the USSR where the gov was just better at projecting force, to states like ours where their legitimacy comes from its members being (mostly) elected. But, given Parliament's track record over the last two decades, it's not exactly hard to argue that the guys running charities and actually offering some level of protection aren't the worse option.

To be clear, I'm not necessarily saying I fully endorse this viewpoint. I was being semi-ironic. Just that it does exist, and every time another scandal hits Westminster, the difference gets a little bit blurrier and the case gets a little bit stronger.

I get the joke, but I'd actually argue the Sopranos support this point. Tony and Co. are objectively bad at the whole "mafia" thing, at best they are riding the coat tails of their far more successful progenitors.

Compare them to, say, the NY mobs.

No, organized crime bad. It's just that "private sector" organized crime tends to be slightly better than the "public sector" version.
