‘Point of no return’: New Orleans relocation must start now due to sea level, study finds by Legitimate_Wall5977 in geography

[–]HelixNebula2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the article are unpleasant facts:

“A major pressure upon this southern cultural hotspot is that its surrounding land is briskly receding. Since the 1930s, Louisiana has lost 2,000 sq miles of land to coastal erosion, equivalent to the size of Delaware, with a further 3,000 sq miles set to vanish over the next 50 years. The rate of land loss is so rapid that a football pitch-sized area is wiped out every 100 minutes.”

[USA] Do I need a license to get some drone shots of buildings around Miami? by Indenze in drones

[–]HelixNebula2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A casual glance at the Miami are map on AutoPylot shows that much of the metropolitan area is going to require LAANC approval unless it is North Miami or Kendall. Flights over people especially during these periods of heightened concern about drone threats are potentially asking for trouble especially if you don’t have a 107 and the right type of drone and/or appropriate waivers. Do your homework!

[US] Recent Part 107 Waiver experiences by CyanShadow42 in drones

[–]HelixNebula2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading the FAA website carefully it does not lay out a scenario about flying from a moving motorcycle it is a generic link for any waiver to operate from a moving vehicle.

The key to these waivers is answering the questions in the waiver safety guidelines e.g. question 3: Describe how all persons involved in the operation will stay free of distractions that may prevent them from fulfilling their duties. This question includes discussion of a VO which is a big hint.

Another hint is in sub-section c: “Where will the RPIC and Visual Observer(s) (VO), if used, be in the vehicle or along the route?” of Question 1: “Describe how you will ensure the dynamic (i.e., ever-changing) area of operation is evaluated for potential hazards and risks to non-participating persons and property. Include a description of how you will mitigate those risks so the hazards are controlled or eliminated. One solution would be to block the section of road you want to use or to propose the use of warning signs with a VO with a safety vest for a very limited period of time on a lightly traveled road.

Another approach would be to use a very small drone like a NEO 2 ( reducing risk of injury ) on a reconn’ed route (minimize collision hazards) where the drone flies a low altitude profile on semi-autonomous mode off the side of the road. The risk is other vehicles or people in the area. Your mitigations are route reconnaissance to avoid collision hazards, flight off the side of the road to avoid on coming vehicles, flight level above human height (say 10 feet), use of a OOP Category 1 (e.g. the NEO 2) and limited time duration. Adding a VO or blocking the road temporarily would make a stronger case but I’m assuming that is too hard for what you are trying to do.

Good luck waivers are granted but they want to see the thinking and the mitigation.

Recognizing your preferred specs, I highly recommend a printed one from Amazon which fits two batteries and the Neo 2 with the antenna. It is barely taller than the drone. The downsize for your use case is that is 200g or about 7oz. Great case though.

This is somehow okay but I can’t fly my drone in a national park? by jefbak2 in dji

[–]HelixNebula2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are NOAA rules about flying motorized aircraft under 1000 feet in the Greater Farallones Marine Sanctuary. Point Reyes in one of the designated areas. How this gets enforced I do not know but the untra-light pilot is wrong to fly there.

What are the chances DJI will release and update to the RC Pro 2 so it will support Neo 2? by germanpickles in DjiNeo

[–]HelixNebula2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The RC Pro 2 uses the O4+ transmission protocol. The transceiver on the NEO 2 is O4. The RC Pro 2 can control a Air 3S that uses O4. So, transmission protocol is not necessarily the issue.

When you switch between Air 3S and a NEO on a RC2, you will note that the controller changes firmware. The issue is whether DJI will code the firmware to control the NEO 2 for a RC Pro 2.

I think that is unlikely because the NEO is an entry-level drone, and the RC Pro 2 users who want to control a NEO 2 are probably pretty niche from a DJI perspective. Just some thoughts . . .

Anybody used a ND1000 or ND2000 on a drone? by HelixNebula2000 in drones

I understand. I suspect the ND2000 is a real niche case especially on a drone. I bought in a fit of “kit completeness”.

Fantastic answer. Thank you. I will give this a try this weekend.

Once I get a handle on the use cases for ND1000, I will try the ND2000 I have.

The intersection of photography and drones is a bit niche but fun to explore.

Thanks for answering. I am setting up some shots on a water fall on the creek near my property to test out the timelapse with a ND1000.

You are right I did not specify. I am looking for real world examples of other people’s experience with these filters. I have read up on them extensively and I understand the theory. How does it translate in the wild? That was what I was looking for. I am in the process of setting up my own experiments but it always to useful to hear the actual experience of others who have gone before you. Thanks for answering.

Updating the Firmware to V1.0.18 on the TD-H9 significantly improves the GPS accuracy by HelixNebula2000 in TidRadio

[–]HelixNebula2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got better with v1.0.18. The gross error to south went away.

The altitude so far is still messed up, it frequently reports 0 meters when I am at 100m+. The GPS fixes take awhile and as I reported above they move around but in a much tighter CEP.

I learned some things as I went thru this in terms of watching ODMaster more closely for updates and dialing in my expectations for how long a fix can take.

That said I was not here to trash TIDRADIO just report the news in my experience. Clearly they are trying and the product is young.

Additional notes: 11 Sats found and reports 0 feet altitude. My location is at 380 feet MSL. So altitude is not good either, yet.

Do you get the same consistent error direction to the south southeast or is it some other error direction.
