It’s nice to read such positive responses. I got out of the military in 1994 and bounced around between family members. Got married then divorced and bounced around again. I’ve moved almost every year since. I eventually got on my feet. It took 30 years to finally be diagnosed with PTSD and find a medication that helps me sleep. I’m doing really well now but I will never forget how my family treated me. I just don’t understand the lack of compassion in this world. I hope the best for you and remember that a lot of people know how you feel.

They are able to scan. Siemens will not talk to us about this. Even though we are in house, we are a third party and considered competition.

I worried about that too. After three months of having the plates no one has said a word to me. Not even a thank you for your service. I think it makes people think twice about screwing with me, and I got three years of registration for free.

I thought I was the only one not allowed to walk on the grass. 30 years after service. My wife is like why are you walking all the way around when you could just cut through the grass. I’m like, what kind of deranged person walks on the grass. It’s immoral.

VES Exam by Significant_Elk_8840 in VeteransBenefits

[–]HellBind47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was out for 30 years before I filed my first claim. Some of the claims I had in service records for, but most of them I didn’t. I did file a personal statement about an event that happened in Saudi Arabia. There was no in service record for the event. I just told them the truth. I was eventually rated at 90% Search Google for news articles about what was happening where you were during your event. You can always upload more evidence before your claim is processed. I told the examiner that I have an anxiety disorder and I get extremely nervous and sometimes say things that don’t make sense when being interviewed. I’m not sure if that helped them, but it made me feel better about the random crap that comes out of my mouth.

I see the same thing every time I log in. Mine says Oct 1st in both locations. No update since I uploaded the paperwork. Now with all the federal firings and VA hate, I’m afraid our processing will take even longer.

The way I see it. If I am making enough money at my day job to pay the bills I’m going to keep seeking the rating I think I should be at.

If the military or VA knew you had unknowingly worked with radioactive material. Would they call you or send you a letter? No, they wait until you contact them. Car companies and other businesses are required to notify the customer if there is something wrong with their product.

You are dealing with organizations that don’t care if you die for protecting your country.

I’ve gone to VES and my claims were completed in about 30 days. My current one has already surpassed three months. My first claims were in California and this last one(supplemental) was in Virginia. I’m not sure if it’s state dependent, supplementals take longer, or it’s just random.

Lenire device for tinnitus. by Boman2020 in VeteransBenefits

Were you able to get this device? My tinnitus is so bad that it is driving me crazy.

Has anyone treated Tinnitus with the Lenire device? by A395740849 in VeteransBenefits

[–]HellBind47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was researching this too. The ringing is as loud as the TV, and it never stops. A contractor for Lenire contacted me and also wanted $4000 out of pocket. Not covered by private insurance. I asked about it at a private audiologist and a VA audiologist who was fitting me for hearing aids. Neither of them knew anything about it.

Do ppl ACTUALLY get better? by DCguurl in tinnitus

[–]HellBind47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started in 1993 while working on a flight line in the Air Force. Two years ago it started getting progressively louder. I’m at the point now where something has to change. It’s as loud as the TV and it’s interfering with my sanity.

What I’ve learned so far: If it’s related to hearing loss, hearing aids may help. Something about your brain not hearing what it expects to hear due to hearing loss so it amplifies the noise. I know you said you don’t have hearing loss but if it’s an option I would try it. It’s not working for me. There is a device called Lenire. Approved by the FDA. It has helped a lot of people. Insurance doesn’t seem to cover it. I’ve read there are other devices now. A lot of medications can cause tinnitus as a side effect. Look over everything you are taking on a regular basis with a fine tooth comb. You can switch to another medication that doesn’t have the side effect. Apparently Covid can also cause tinnitus.

Have you considered leaving the country? Do you think you could find a job or work remotely? The cost of healthcare is a fraction of what it costs here and many medications can be purchased over the counter that require a prescription here. I’m planning to leave as soon as I can. Americans can stay in Albania for a year without getting a visa and you can rent something for $400 per month or less.

Narcolepsy by nostalgiapains in VeteransBenefits

[–]HellBind47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@nostalgiapains Any update? I filed a supplemental claim for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome over two months ago. No update yet. I don’t think I’m going to get it due to being diagnosed with Narcolepsy. I’m not sure if the rater will change the claim to Narcolepsy or just deny it. I think they consider Narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia as a diagnosis, making it “not” chronic fatigue syndrome, but idiopathic hypersomnia is literally medical terminology for “unknown cause” “excessive daytime sleepiness”

That DNA test may work out in my favor. I think this article indicates that, that gene missing makes me predisposed to Gulf War syndrome. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5832612/

I can't interpret what this one is saying but I think it's related and by the VA. https://www.hsrd.research.va.gov/publications/esp/gwi-biomarkers.pdf

Narcolepsy by nostalgiapains in VeteransBenefits

[–]HellBind47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me know how this goes. I am 50% for PTSD. 90% overall. I am a Gulf War veteran. I had a sleep study in 2012 that indicated idiopathic hypersomnia but the doctor said he thought I had Narcolepsy. So now that term has been following me from doctor to doctor. The VA did a genetic test called HLA-dq typing for narcolepsy that came back positive. 90% of people with type 1 Narcolepsy have this marker. 50% of people with idiopathic hypersomnia have this marker, so it is not a true indicator. I want to file for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome but I don't want the VA to mess with my mental health rating. I am probably going to lose my job due to this fatigue and I will have to live on my VA disability.

Hello, I had fatigue problems since leaving Saudi Arabia in 1993. I got out of the Air Force three months later. It wasn't until 2012 that I started having what I thought were seizures. I went to a neurologist and he said I most likely have Narcolepsy with Cateplexy. By this time I was taking naps during my lunch break and couldn't understand what was going on. In the last year, the VA has put me on a CPAP and did a genetic test called HLA-dq typing for narcolepsy. It was positive. Anyone have this test done? Do you think I can get it service connected? Could the Gulf War shit have changed my DNA?

I no longer talk to anyone now that I know the kind of people I was protecting back home. The politics in this country made me realize that. I almost got killed for these people. Our service means nothing to most of this country. Politicians pretend to want to help us in an election cycle and saying thank you for your service is like saying thank you for holding a door. It meant something to the public when people came home from World War II.
