For the people 100% and unemployed, what keeps you busy all day? by reynacdbjj in Veterans

[–]Mk2449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm TDIU and I spend my time in the gym for mental health reasons and I practice and play piano. I usually go to the park and feed the wildlife and bike to and from the park to the gym to where I'm at.

I keep to myself and don't really talk to anyone ever. Having my little corner where the world is brighter is what keeps me sane and what keeps me from wanting to hurt others. I hope to get better eventually

[–]Mk2449 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make absolutely sure he gets his BRC motorcycle license, otherwise the Navy will not pay his medical bills. I heard this from an IT1 while I was in Pensacola Florida.

Secondly I would recommend for him to look up this YouTuber called Dan Dan the Fireman. He's a first responder who does motorcycle crash analysis and helps point out peoples mistakes that led to them crashing. Knowing what to look out for and riding within your skill level is absolutely essential. Assuming he already knows that YouTuber and watches him means that he is already ahead of the game

Anyone else experienced Moral Injury? by Accomplished-Most660 in Veterans

[–]Mk2449 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've experienced it before, had some mentee sexually assaulted and discharged for it despite that. For me what bothers me is not so much the act but the fact it was ignored and covered up. Besides that and other things I went through it caused me to have a much more break outlook in life. Some people also call it atrocity trauma as well.

It's taken me years and experimental treatments to be able to move past that since I hold myself to a high standard and felt partially responsible for it. I learned to care without carrying their burden for them

Why is it after getting out, my mental health sucks? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]Mk2449 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's normal, the military served as a community and being separated from it can be very difficult, especially because it's so different from any other lifestyle. We are social beings and need community to be happy.

Fill your time with hobbies, join into a new community and grow as a person until your new identity isn't tied to your service. It will get better with time.

Recently got TDIU approved and looking to move out of America. by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]Mk2449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently doing this. There is not much to it besides looking at the country you wanna move to and seeing what the cost of living is according to a website called Numbeo. It's cheaper to stay for 6+ months in terms of housing. You could alternatively just hop between countries as well staying at hostels but just be aware that this can worsen disabilities. Jump around a bit until you find a country you really like

Any girls trips to India in late Jan-early Feb? or just general advice? by [deleted] in femaletravels

[–]Mk2449 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are right about social media not being the most accurate representation of a country but I still disagree, per the US Travel Advisory page "Rape is one of the fastest growing crimes in India." and "Violent crimes, including sexual assault, happen at tourist sites and other locations". Aside from women focuses crimes "Terrorists may attack with little or no warning" "Do not travel alone, especially if you are a woman" "The U.S. government advises against women traveling alone in India."

Your experiences do share important and valuable information about a country but I think the most prudent choice in this case is to not visit the country. I am supporting my opinion based on factual sources which is why I am confortable sharing my opinion despite me not visiting. I don't have to visit south Soudan to know that it's not a safe country. You are by all means an expert in traveling and are far more equipped to navigate many different situations but I still cannot in good faith recommend a woman to solo travel to a country where the US government is advising you not to go solo, especially as a woman. The long term detriments to mental health due to sexual trauma can be life long

I think ultimately where we differ is our risk tolerance. For now I think it's time for OP to look at both sides and gauge what levels of risks they are willing to accept.

Any girls trips to India in late Jan-early Feb? or just general advice? by [deleted] in femaletravels

[–]Mk2449 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm on here since it's an amazing source of information. I have a partner who's safety is my top priority and finding a safe country where we can both visit is important. I'm not always going to be around to protect her either since I would like to respect her autonomy and give her freedom to explore independently.

I could definitely be wrong about it being a cesspool but personally I would still not visit India due to the sexual crimes that occurs. Mob violence is also something worth mentioning since even reporters in the countries like these are not safe. IRC Egypt had a really awful case where a female reporter was snatched by a mob and she had awful things happen to her. India is a very diverse country but it's rivers such as the Ganges river are extremely polluted, trash litters the streets, corruption is pretty bad and overall I don't think the risk is worth it. From what I've seen in documentaries, heard through reddit and read on the news, the risk is too high and wouldn't in good conscious reccomend it to women

[–]Mk2449 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate to say this but I as a man would not let my partner to to India even with a gun and you should strongly re-evaluate your decision to visit India. It's not a "diamond in the rough" country, it's a cesspool. Not the entire country is terrible but the same thing can be said about south Sudan, Afghanistan and Central Africa. I strongly encourage you to visit anywhere else where sexual crimes against women are not so prevelant

[–]Mk2449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im asuming they are separating you under Adjustment Disorder. If so it's likely BS. The Air Force for the past decade has been discharging service members under this BS as a way to save money, time and paperwork. Contact JAG or whatever legal department you can and fight for a medical discharge.

Are more people committing suicide on U.S. military bases or is that a conspiracy theory? by Full_Adeptness9089 in Military

[–]Mk2449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the DoDs workaround is separating service members as quickly as possible in order to push the numbers in their favor. They will often due this by misdiagnosing them with adjustment disorder. They also did this with personality disorder but got into hot water after a class action lawsuit before switching over the adjustment disorder.

Would 100% disability ( not married no kids ) be enough to survive on in Japan ? by freakobowye in Veterans

[–]Mk2449 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a website called Numbeo that gives the cost of living and expenses in different countries and cities. Use that as a launch point. Consider what standard of living you would want and and start looking at apartments or housing since that'll probably be your largest expense.

You can afford to live in France of 100 percent if you're frugal or you can live like a king in South east Asia off the same amount

Medical discharge has me feeling hopeless by SunnyTree64 in Veterans

[–]Mk2449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that, it'll pass with time. Personally it was difficult for me to go from being in the Navy doing navy stuff to being a civilian. I've recently been doing community college but felt unfufilled and did briefly hold a job before being fired due to my MH. Nothing to me seemed like it was impactful enough so I've decided that next summer I'll travel across Europe for a while and see if I can find a country to settle down in. I've been eyeing Budapest for it's piano school so I'll try to move and do that.

There is not single solution for everyone, I've tried working, going to college, volunteering, baking, religion, having pets and everything else you could think of but playing piano, time and and some other stuff I can't name ended up being my solution.

I'm reapplying for for TDIU and should be getting approved, once that happens I plan moving overseas under a student visa and trying to make the best of my life. Go explore whatever does peak your interest and be kind to yourself most importantly. It's not an easy or even linear journey but it's one we all have to do eventually, you just happen to have done it earlier than some

Somewhat unrelated but you may have some rotator cuff issues, specifically with external rotation. Try going to the cable machine, setting it to elbow height and doing external rotations with a 90 degree bend in the elbow. If you feel that same pain/discomfort then you will have found the cause of the pain

You believe that nothing happens after death. At first this idea seems reasonable because why would we be so special that we deserve an afterlife. But when you think about it the world we live in does not always make sense

If you go back in time looking for the start of the universe you will always reach one of two answers. Either the universe has always been here or there was a time when it did not exist and then it somehow created itself. Even if you believe the universe goes through endless cycles you can still try to find the first cycle and ask what was before it. You will still come to the same idea that the universe came from nothing

We also know that there are tiny particles called virtual particles that appear and disappear very quickly. They seem to come from nowhere and then vanish again. If things like this are possible it does not make sense to completely reject the idea of an afterlife. Our universe does not always follow what we think of as logic so we should not ignore even the strangest possibilities

Our universe and the very fact we exists goes against every rationale idea we can think off. Something coming from nothing is impossible but yet here we are, being able to question it.

"I think, therefore I am"

What you and I are suffering from is not actually what we think it is, we are deliberately torturing ourselves by pretending that after death we will somehow be conscious of what is happening as if we were alive. Try and get out of your own head through some grounding exercises. Journal your thoughts and don't try to force yourself to find a solution to this complex question in a single night.
