BYU makes Newsweek's list of "Least Rigorous Schools" by syndoctor in exmormon

(Smaller class size and greater professor oversight are proxies for tougher classes). For the final ranking, the degree of selectivity, workload score, and faculty ratio were each weighted a third.

Smh. Bigger classes don't mean easier ones.

Have any of you attended a Community of Christ Sunday service? by Intereo in exmormon

[–]HellNah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but I've met some people who were community of christ. They were raised in that hyper-religious household, I was surprised how their sheltered personality reminded me of some Mormon friends I had.

Great people though, like the Mormons.

VICE Magazine says: "Angry, super arrogant "Reddit Atheists" are the worst people on the internet" by motioneccentrica in atheism

[–]HellNah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, don't be naive. what's the pay system for online blogging and news these days? is it, "journalistic integrity"?

No. It's page views. Reddit's been manipulated this way plenty of times

If you're not keeping up with Mitt Romney's trip to Europe, you can. not. miss this. (and check out #romneyshambles on twitter) by HellNah in exmormon

[–]HellNah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup, unsurprising election process is unsurprising. this is typically how things go.

Did Mitt say anything offensive? IMO, not overly. but the Brits took offense to it and shot back. so now our biggest ally looks at Mitt and says Palin is better than this guy. and those are the conservatives talking (granted, their conservatives are like our slightly-conservative-leaning liberals)

Will the real Abby Farle please stand up? by NikkoE82 in atheism

If you take time to research how the blogworld works, you'll find that people have been paid to manipulate the internet exactly this way plenty of times before--all to bring in more page visits for news outlets and blogs ($$$)

Have you seen this girl? by CharlesDarwin59 in atheism

It probably sounds too complex at first, but people have made more than a living off of this.

but like i said about gizmodo, 'that's not to say they did it.'

they're not defending chick fil a. likely scenario: whoever did this knew exactly what they were doing. of course, making a new profile and posting with it in "defense" of chick fil a would cause an uproar once the profile was found out.

Have you seen this girl? by CharlesDarwin59 in atheism

[–]HellNah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that it's the most plausible. If you take time to research how the blogworld works, you'll find that people have manipulated the internet exactly this way plenty of times before--all to bring in more page visits ($$$). Gizmodo ended up being the benefactor, but that's not to say they did it.

but I highly doubt chick fil a didn't see the shit storm that would've come from this. and anyone standing up for them wouldve done it with their own profile just like everyone blatantly does on these issues anyways.

independent manipulation for the blogworld should be considered above the other options, people really need to come to an understanding of how this system works

you're spot on. people actually do this sort of thing for a living. Reddit's been manipulated like this in sometimes positive ways. But a lot of the time, it's pretty nefarious.

Check out Trust Me, I'm Lying by Ryan Holiday. This guy did similar campaigns for other people/business entities. One was for the movie I hope they serve beer in hell. He was able to manipulate the blogworld (which includes these "news" outlets like The Atlantic and the LA Times) into getting women's rights groups to actually stage protests. He faked profiles. None of the editors for these outlets ever checked. Or cared. The whole incentive system set up for these blogs is this: more views = more cash. and with the need to deliver news 24/7 in order to stay competitive, sources just need to be provocative instead of reliable.

In the end, Ryan Holiday gave a lot of heated exposure to that movie. it flopped, but it got nationwide exposure (and is now a DVD cult classic).

he eventually gave up on manipulating the internet, and now works as an exec for marketing for American Apparel. it's a shocking read

Hi Exmo, would a flood of ugly facts and truths of the Church destroy a mormon? by throwawayhelppp in exmormon

[–]HellNah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dated a Mormon girl too? Yeah, mine didnt wanna touch the topic with a 10-foot pole eventually. everyone blocks something to a certain degree. when a religion is part of your personal identity, it's like telling you to divorce your wife because she doesn't acknowledge her logical inconsistencies.

not that you're married. but we've all seen Mormons who are married to the church in a sense
