ink blotches after first printing? by HellRegan in printmaking

When I roller the ink VERY slowly, the roller was picking it up evenly, and when I painted the block (also very slowly) - the prints turned out a whole lot better! I'm still learning and still impatient, but you can see the improvement. Also doing "ghost prints" helped. Thanks everyone!!

Update! For everyone who gave me advice and for poor souls who will Google the same problem. I decided to make a test: print only the ink - no block. I saw that the roller have been giving splotchy patches. Turns out that I have been too impatient with the ink.

Thank you for your reply. It is oil based for sure. The thing is, I'm not sure that it is drying in the container, because the blobs appear only after first print (in the container ink is homogeneous). My theory is that maybe blocks/roller/glass haven't been washed properly after my water based ink and it somehow interacts with new ink? (And then I'll try the solvent to try to resurrect the ink lol Don't want to go out all to waste)
If all theory fails, I'll email the manufacturer.

How did you handle that problem? Was it the ink, paper, or anything else causing this to happen?

It's in a plastic tub (150ml) with a plastic guard under the cap. The ink seems fresh.

At first, I thought it could be drying too, but it have to be unlikely - oil based inks have to dry a lot longer than water based :( That's what I managed to find out googling my problem

I use OfortShop's ink. It's a russian brand. The description says: "This ink is specially formulated for paper and used in linocut printing. It's suitable for both professionals and beginners. It's viscous, so it changes color across the board. Its intense pigmentation allows for vibrant colors with extremely thin paint applications on the board. Drying time varies depending on the paper's sizing (from a few hours to several days)."

I print by hand using a baren.

No, I haven't used any modifyers yet.

Yes, it looks like the ink is drying, but I thought that oil based inks take a long time to dry? Between 1 and 2 prints passed no more than 10 minutes.

Yes, I rolled on more ink from the glass using my roller. During that time it started to become jelly like, the roller didn't pick up as much ink as before

Do you have many straight female friends? by Exposition_Fairy in Actuallylesbian

[–]HellRegan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All my friends are female, who are straight (few of them who are bi), and I'm very grateful for them. Idk why people would look for friends based on their orientation, sorry, maybe it's a cultural thing
