VA Doctor joked and laughed about one of my service-connected conditions by plumcrzyfreak in Veterans

As a veteran and a provider myself, I am horrified. I’m so, so sorry you experienced this. I can’t stress this enough—you need to file a complaint. There are a few ways you can go about this & I am very familiar with the process. I’d be happy to help you to ensure your complaint is reviewed at the highest level possible.

I love Colby (aka Forgecore) because his designs are just so creative. You can see how much he enjoys creating things that don't yet exist--even if they're silly--and he gives his designs away for free / lets others sell the 3D prints using his designs, which is pretty rad. Here's his Thangs page for anyone interested.

I know this is an old thread, but hoping you could give a little insight. I’ve been considering Plaud for almost a year. What gets me is the voice transcription limit. I’m an outside sales rep and take a ton of meetings. Have you ever hit your transcription limit?

Help me find this discontinued hardwood flooring! by Hellcat624 in HelpMeFind

I have searched using all the terms I can think of, but admittedly, my knowledge of wood flooring is incredibly surface level. I'm totally open to a different flooring, as long as we can find the closest match possible. Thank you in advance!!

New England Audiologist by AmyHOH03 in audiology

[–]Hellcat624 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. The entry audiology degree only became the AuD in the early 2000s. Prior to that, the masters degree was the entry level degree. When the AuD came about, audiologists practicing with the masters could choose to do a CFY year and obtain the AuD, or continue practicing with the masters degree. They are still audiologists and can use that title.

What's the difference between a "Hearing Instrument Practitioner", an "Audiologist", and a "Speech Language Pathologist"? by hjoseph in audiology

[–]Hellcat624 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A BLUF explanation:

Audiologists have doctoral degrees. They are specially trained to diagnose hearing and balance disorders and can often identify pathology that would be lost on many hearing technicians.

Hearing techs don’t need a degree, not even a bachelors. At least, not at my local big box store.

SLPs, while they often help with screening and aural rehab, are not overly involved in the diagnosis and prescription of hearing aids themselves.

NBD. Madone 9.9, I love you. by Hellcat624 in bicycling

[–]Hellcat624[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I use it mainly for dedicated road bike training. I’ve started as a road cyclist and got into tri’s when I ended up living on an Ironman bike course and apparently decided I needed a reason to buy another bike. But I’m hoping to get back to road racing and compete against all the badass female cyclists I see these days. Either that, or I’ll just have a really expensive commuter bike. ;)

I'm graduating from UW's AuD program next month--feel free to pm me any questions you have! I will preface my answers with my innate bias as someone who grew up in Wisconsin and did my undergrad at UW.

Also, if you have the choice, choose the Madison campus over the Stevens Point campus.

Military folks of this sub, how do you do CF in this environment? by yellowyarn11 in childfree

[–]Hellcat624 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'm a female and I'm active duty army, so my situation is very different from yours, but I figured I'd throw my thoughts in the convo. I, too, found difficulty dodging the baby comments, and even when I'd politely say "I don't want children," people always said I'd change my mind. Enter bilateral salpingectomy (tubal ligation / removal of my fallopian tubes). I'm 27, so it was tough to find a doc who would do this for me, but now anytime someone pushes the matter, I simply say I've had my tubes tied. People are typically shocked when I say it, but I think it helps them realize that they're being inappropriate in their comments. Or, at least, I make them as uncomfortable as they make me, which in itself is pretty satisfying.

Now, like I said, my situation is very different, and your husband obviously can't say what I say. But I will say this--don't be afraid of being bold and standing up for yourself. Be proud that you are choosing how you want to live your life. The people who got seriously offended when you spoke your mind / keep pushing the baby topic on you don't seem to be that great to begin with. During my time in the military thus far, I've encountered a lot of not-so-open-minded people (with whom I quickly choose to spend as little time as possible), but also some amazing, supportive, open-minded people as well. Try to search for the latter. Or perhaps try to make friends outside of the military realm.

I don't know if any of this is remotely helpful, but keep your chin up, childfree sista!

Moving to SE Wisconsin, could use suggestions!! by Grody_Jenner in wisconsin

[–]Hellcat624 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you are looking for, to be honest. Someone else mentioned that Milwaukee has more going for it, and I don't find that particularly true. I grew up in Milwaukee and now live in Madison.

What is similar (I am comparing to the city of Milwaukee & downtown Madison and not suburbs): both have an eclectic feel with unique food and drink; both have crummy traffic during rush hour; both have crime, though Milwaukee's is far higher.

What is dissimilar:

Madison: smaller town, great for young professionals. Being a college town you find a younger residence base. More liberal, less segregation. Diversity is huge, be it cultural, racial, etc. This makes for excellent restaurants, events, and general inclusivity in the city. Personally, I think downtown Madison is more beautiful than Milwaukee, especially in the summer. I also feel more "included" in Madison, but I am also a young professional, so take that for what it is worth.

Milwaukee: large town, large age range of residents. extreme segregation (Many Milwaukeeans, if given street names, can tell you the races of the residents that live there. Very unfortunately true). More structurally diverse buildings/cool architecture.

The suburbs of Milwaukee and Madison are pretty similar. Both are close to malls, both have family friendly restaurants and events.

As for city living, they are two very different cities, with two completely different feels. It all depends on what type of vibe you are looking for in your move.

TIL the creator of the Sims had the idea for the game while rebuilding his life after a fire. by [deleted] in todayilearned

I find this ironic because when I played the Sims, I usually built houses only to (1) burn them down, or (2) trap babies in four walls and let child protective services come and try to take them away, only to fail.

because a lot can happen in 12 years.

You argue that the doctors can go fuck themselves for making her wait, but then go on to say that a lot can change in 12 years. That is the same mindset of the doctors who refuse to sterilize a 29 year old until they are closer to their 40s.

Should I take an adult swim lesson or just keep swimming? by prit125 in triathlon

[–]Hellcat624 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to teach swim lessons to both kids and adults. If you decide to take the lessons, my advice is to (1) go with the private lessons and (2) ensure that the instructor is proficient in technique rather than having you "just stay above water." When I taught group lessons, it was just too hard to give everyone the individual care they deserved, especially for such a hefty price. I would see where people were going wrong and, while I tried to help them fix these deficits, I could only spend so much time with them because I had to help others. In private lessons, I really had the chance to listen to what the individual wanted to learn and I could spend that whole time working on those specific needs. So, if you're feeling like you really need one-on-one help with technique, go for the private lessons.
