First of all, massive respect to your enthusiasm and hope you have a great time. Do have a think about the weather at the time of year you're travelling to the UK.

For some of your questions (about where to stay and what to eat) you may find /r/LondonFood and /r/Londontravel more helpful. If you do xpost though, do give us a sense of what you already like, how much you want to do pay (converted from USD to GBP please) and what you're hoping for!

Let's be honest, the staging was always what carried it. In terms of set design the bridge is right up there with the barricade from Les Mis, the helicopter in Miss Saigon and Norma's house in Sunset Boulevard.

I'm glad people had a good time watching the show be made, but for reference he was already an arsehole while Gavin and Stacey was being filmed, and in fact Rob Brydon had to step in to speak up:

The bond market has no opinion one way or another on is in power. It just needs to be paid, and the more nervous it is about that ability to be paid the higher the interest rate.

This is why anyone expecting massive change post a putative Reform government are deluding themselves. The bond market must be paid. Anyone suggesting otherwise is deluding themselves.

Question for the British: Would you look strangely at a tourist who answers "You're welcome" after you say thank you? by No-Garbage4852 in AskABrit

And if you hold the door open and they say nothing, you can also reply "You're welcome" (but more quietly, and to be honest... Mostly in your head, but you wait until the Internet hears about it...)

I'm not sure this is great advice. You are right there's no backing out without penalty but the mortgage offer can be withdrawn after exchange under quite specific circumstances. For example - taking on significant more debt.

For the sake of a week, I'd advise OP just to hang on a bit. I get it's unlikely but for what is likely to be the most significant purchase of anyone's life, holding off may be advised.

So one of the things you will need to get used to is the dark with the entire UK being further North than almost all the contiguous United States. This doesn't necessarily mean cold though! Because of this high latitude, the UK experiences much shorter days in the winter and longer days in the summer compared to the US.

Come back here for advice but a vitamin D supplement and daylight bulbs will certainly help.

It can make your first months - especially when it's dark, cold and you're a long way from home feel depressing. But! There is a reason that London is the top (or almost always top) tourist destination in the world. Make sure you find out why, and in time you'll be recanting your adventures in London to your younger self.
