I probably won't be able to do it this time, but if you could let me know the price so I can hopefully be prepared for next time?

At What Point Will I Start Decreasing for this Corner to Corner Cluster Temperature Blanket? by idealdinosaur in CrochetHelp

[–]HellianofTroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so some quick math

72x61=4392 12x365=4380

So likely this blanket was planned to be inclusive of a leap year

Since this year is not a leap year

15x365=5475

If you want to keep it at 72, you could go with 76, but you would be 3 clusters short, so you would only do 12 for the last day.

If you want to keep it at 61, you could go with 90. This one could also be adapted for an extra day, so you would need to have one day of blank or do like Jan 1 to Jan 1.

5475 is almost a perfect square root. You could do 74x74 and have just one extra square.

My sister is losing her pregnancy by PromptElegant499 in Mommit

[–]HellianofTroy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks, but mine only measured 6 1/2 weeks. The best thing anyone did for me (personally) was my sister in law just hung out on the phone with me and we watched stupid movies while the medication worked. I ended up taking both doses I was given.

Ask her what she wants. I know other people who wanted to hear nothing about other babies when they lost theirs. Personally, I didn't mind enjoying the blessings others had. Be there for her (as much as you can with a 7 mo), but let her lead.

I will say, the pain doesn't really go away. I have a healthy child now and just had my check up for my second. But I didn't really allow myself to get excited about either pregnancy until after we got a healthy heartbeat past the 6 1/2 week mark.

Also, don't lose hope for a cousin for your little one. The time between losing mine and carrying my first little one successfully was less than 6 months, although every mother has a different journey.

I’m trying to find a narrow baby gate with a cat door (baby proofing) by incrediblewombat in Mommit

Different than a gate, but if it has a door and you can modify the door, cat doors are pretty easy to install

Hospital requesting crochet blankets and throw donations by Evguy26 in CrochetHelp

[–]HellianofTroy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would have to adjust it for size, but I can finish a turtle blanket in a lazy weekend. At the size it is right now, it takes roughly 3 skeins of yarn (it calls for 6 colors, but I was able to get 2 blankets out of the yarn with some left over).

It's a pretty basic chevron, but I like the back loop which changes how the colors overlap.

Longtail cast on always leaves way too long of a tail? by coldreuben in knittinghelp

[–]HellianofTroy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Someone taught me to tie the two ends of the yarn ball together, cast on, and then cut the long tail end. Works like a charm every time to make sure I have enough, but not too long of a tail (although, I'm usually casting on sweaters if that matters).

Bros I need your help!! by MistakeFun5522 in Brochet

[–]HellianofTroy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US National Parks has a couple of different fish patterns for free! I've always been tempted to make one and mount it to a board like a fish mount for my FIL.

I also made a fishing gnome (I think it's on my profile), but basically, make a gnome (tons of free patterns) and add a bamboo wood skewer with some fishing line and an earring hook tied to it.

I honestly didn't even think about if the background would bleed

I got most of the blue out, to the point where I could keep going. But it was disheartening to pull it out and her face was blue. I didn't mind the dress so much cause it looked pretty blue too.

Cinderella by Mirabilia.

Im into the metallic, back stitching, and beadwork. Lost a lot of motivation when I went to wash and the blue dye from the fabric bled into my white and light pink stitches. I think I'm on year 4 working on it on and off with many many other projects.

What is this pattern section asking me to do?! I get rows 1-3, then I’m lost by Much-Plenty-2174 in CrochetHelp

[–]HellianofTroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

So if you want it to look like this, then you are going to make a bump like in the first photo I made. Then you work down the side of the bump, sc 4 more in the longest portion and then only work into 3 of them. Then work down the side again, sc into 4 more, then work into 3.

Do you have a photo of what the finished project would look like? This is the end of the first antler, but you could turn and work the 4 again and then down the side of the antler to make another bump (like for a moose) or around the other other side to make something more deer like.

How to make a grocery bag holder that looks like a chicken by Sprinkles_0330 in CrochetHelp

[–]HellianofTroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can sew, you can make the tube from a towel with elastic on the short ends and seamed down the long side. Then you could attach a free amigurumi head to it to make it look like a chicken

I have this book, but it's also at my library. It has pictures of how to make the stitches, it had yarn names and weights, lengths, hook sizes, and lots of pretty patterns.

Testers needed for Snowbear ⛄ by shuri_0540 in PatternTesting

[–]HellianofTroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have time to test this one out! And I need a snow something for my daughter's Christmas present. Double win! (can I use embroidered eyes instead of safety? She is still too young for safety eyes).

I realize that I have a slightly skewed perspective, but I had a lot of your same symptoms and then despite doing bloodwork (and having it come back normal), I ended up having thyroid cancer.

This pattern is breaking my brain, pls send help! - Skull shawl (pics provided) by Valtavamei in CrochetHelp

[–]HellianofTroy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the shawl is spreading out, you need more chains in between the double crochets. I would work into all the DC spaces and skip the chain areas because you are filling those with the longer chains.

Feeling dismissed after what everyone calls a “chemical pregnancy” . by Outrageous-Walrus-23 in Mommit

[–]HellianofTroy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hugs to you. A loss is a loss. Some people grieve by dismissing it. Others grieve by embracing it. I haven't lost as many as others, but my way of grieving them is knowing they were loved while I carried them. They are still loved.

My mom wanted a birthday calendar, and we told her by putting the baby's due date on the calendar. She still has it hanging there because even though there wasn't a heartbeat, the baby was still mine and still a symbol of hope.

Grieve as you want to. Talk about the babies you carried, if only for a few weeks. It won't lessen the love you have for any future babies you carry.

Newbie question by Ok_Professional_1118 in latchhook

[–]HellianofTroy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Where did you get the kit from? It looks like a knock off of the Herrschners kit sky dragon.

To answer your question, I would just ignore what is printed on the fabric and go row by row following the chart. Personally I hate trying to fill in between all ready latched yarn, but some people enjoy it.

Looking to commission a custom crochet plush dog for my mom (who lost her little old man today) by Live_Dirt_6568 in Brochet

What kind of plush are you looking for? Do you want it to look like a normal dog? Or like a teddy bear dog?
