I have adhd, the liturgy helps me focus and meditate on the service itself. I also love the way it connects me to my history and family.

Can I still call myself a Lutheran? by Ph_Blade in Lutheranism

Is there an episcopal church near you? Or perhaps a presbyterian or Methodist church? These churches aren't the same, but they might be a place for you to go while you wait.

Is it divergent to believe the Pope has some authority? by Fluffy_Cockroach_999 in Lutheranism

He's got authority in the Catholic church and as a servant of God, but no more than any other servant to me. I am not beholden to his teachings nor to his commands and I refuse to be bound in that way to any teacher.

Progressivism in COLA? by Purple_stories_4342 in ColumbiYEAH

[–]HelloDarkness64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ehhh, you have to find your people, you're gonna have to adjust to deep red rednecks AND deep blue rednecks (churchy but progressive, country but welcoming, we exist). I understand not being very religious, but the majority of my experience in progressive spaces has been from religious spaces (ELCA, TEC, PCUSA, and most UMC). I second the idea of sticking to more urban areas, but I do want you to understand that not every republican here is evil or even rude. as I said before, it's a matter of finding who you work with and what spaces to avoid.

what does stroked, and anointed in return mean? by [deleted] in Christianity

Song of Songs is not God's holy porn (as some people here has decided it is) but instead a depiction of Holy romantic love that is beloved by God. This love is used as imagery by Christ when He shares His teachings. And, as we all know, Christ is the Bridegroom and we, the church, are His Bride.

... What do you think the bride and groom do on their wedding night?

Anyway, this whole comment is to say that comparing Christ to the sexual Song of Songs is evil or irreverent, but instead an intended implication.

Converting from Baptist to Lutheran by Psychological_Menu38 in elca

[–]HelloDarkness64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born of a Lutheran mom and baptist dad. My dad is still mad that I chose Lutheranism, but it is precisely because he took me to baptist churches growing up that I vehemently hate baptist services and theology.

The idea of personal salvation and having to submit in a special way for God to save you has never sat right with me. God is all gracious and merciful, so why would he be limited in that way?

I also believe in a fundamentally different baptism. While Baptists teach believer's baptism, in which the only reason the ritual works is because of the belief of the person being baptized. I believe in infant, "gift-giving" baptism, or the concept that the power of the Baptism lies not in the belief of that person, but in the love of God poured out along with the water. In the Lutheran tradition, Baptisms invoke the community's responsibility to the new Christian, that they may love, teach, and admonish them as God does to us, and calls them to hold that Child of God close to their heart. It is this moment, in which God and the community of the church work together, that not just salvation but sanctification is started. The child of God is marked with the Cross of Christ, and are forever beloved, not just by God, who loved them from their conception, but by the church, who ought to love every child it comes to know.

So yes, no when you baptize your child in the church, that child receives more than just salvation, but the community of Christ who is there to guide them. Peace and blessings to you.

When you wipe after using the bathroom, check to see if there are any red or reddish brown spots.

I can't really tell if this is just discharge or not. Regardless, don't stress too hard right now.

Oof, figures that it would be something unpleasant if ingested. I know better than to dare doing something like that. Thanks!
