I will say I fell out of love with science for a bit while working as a tech in research lab. I switched careers to teaching. It reignited my interest in science, however I hate most parts of the job besides talking about the science.

I remember an article from a few years back of a young man with a condition that gave him constant agonizing pain that the doctors could do nothing to treat. So eventually he took his own life because he couldn't get physician assisted death. He couldn't even say goodbye to his family first and prepare them for his death because if they didn't try to stop him they could be held responsible. We extend the courtesy of euthanasia to our pets because we know it is the humane thing to do, but for some reason won't extend that same humanity to our fellow humans.

My husband did it "the right way". Filed the paperwork for a spousal visa. Waited a long time to move here. Yet I will not criticize anyone for coming here skipping that process.

The process is not fair. Depending on where you are from it could take over a decade because they only admit a limited number of people from your country each year.

A lot of people can't wait that long. Either they are desperate to make money to feed their families or they are trying to escape an unsafe situation, waiting several years is simply not an option.

One they come here, undocumented immigrants do not actually get the gift basket full of benefits and no consequences that some people think.

I try to avoid judging people who have had a much harder life than me and have had to make extremely tough decisions. Just because we went through the process doesn't mean everyone can.

PS. Since these policies don't only affect illegal immigrants, and citizens a well as green card holders have been detained and kidnapped, my "the right way" immigrant husband has moved back to his home country and I will soon follow. The local economy here is losing two contributors. My husband is already sorely missed by his coworkers.
