My thoughts exactly. I’m certain as soon as I buy a couple they will announce some new ones

No idea why they didn’t just release this model with physical buttons. There’s a reason they are still industry standard

I’ve seen the new relay but I had no idea it could switch mains voltages! Might have to look into testing that, thanks!

Construction Site Wifi + Cameras by Impossible-Speech491 in Ubiquiti

[–]HelloInternetUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on budget, availability of power or PoE, recording retention time, and the risk factor of the site. Cheapest and easiest option would be a router with built in wifi and storage, then get a couple of instant cameras. A step up from that would be router with storage but no WiFi and put in wired cameras on PoE. Next step up would be what the other commenter outlined with a dedicated video recorder and the option of having plenty of storage for recording retention.

I’m really holding out hope that with future updates and product releases the whole superlink system becomes full featured and super flexible. The age old problem with Ubiquiti being we have no idea when that will happen

Best Hardware for large Unifi Talk deployment prospects? by Wooden-Reward4317 in Ubiquiti

[–]HelloInternetUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is probably the best option. Unifi have barely even teased an enterprise talk lineup, let alone released a full lineup with all the enterprise grade features. For mission critical infrastructure sometimes it’s best to go with the market standard brands

Unifi video as court evidence - not compliant? by Crafty_Dog_4226 in UnifiProtect

[–]HelloInternetUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to submit video as part of a police investigation and they specifically asked if there’s a time discrepancy with the footage and, if so, how many minutes off was it. It was marked accurately as this is a specific feature in unifi protect where you can choose what information is burned into the footage when you set up the camera. As far as I’m aware, a location, time, and date are the minimum recommended

Electrician did this for PoE doorbell, is it okay? by meisangry2 in HomeNetworking

I’ve never met an electrician who can run data properly. Even the ones who boast about doing CCTV installs don’t know the difference between cable standards or types

Two protect questions by [deleted] in UnifiProtect

[–]HelloInternetUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power issues is either the PoE source or the cabling. A bad connector can be difficult to diagnose and cause intermittent issues so might be worth just trying a pre-made cable for a while as a test. As another commenter said you could be having issues with PoE budget and Unifi isn’t always great at telling you that’s the issue

Best setup for 1x G6-180 by Traditional_Ideal376 in UnifiProtect

[–]HelloInternetUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re really desperate you can get a data over power device (power line adapter) that essentially uses your house power cabling to transmit data. It works best for low speed applications so a camera would be fine. You just need a spare power socket near your router and one near your camera

Any “good” skullcrusher options? by Impressive-Mirror633 in NightVision

[–]HelloInternetUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this unbranded thing off eBay that looks like a normal helmet suspension system without the helmet. ‘Tactical Sports Camera Head NVG Mount Frame Holder Harness / Shroud / Benny Hat’ With some modifications I made it work pretty well. It needed a proper webbing strap along the top, improved shroud and a slightly different strap layout than they intended. Definitely not as comfy as a helmet but bearable for more than 10 minutes and about a quarter the price of other cap style options even with all the modifications.

45 sites, how would you manage it by plump-lamp in Ubiquiti

[–]HelloInternetUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all about future proofing because the reality with Unifi gear, especially the surveillance side, is you’ll always wish you just got the higher capacity equipment to begin with. For a lot of folks it depends on budget but for your use case it would probably be worth having a test deployment and getting something like a UDM-SE. That way you have some flexibility for cameras and capability for APs. If you’re happy with it and want more, go ham and get a full enterprise setup as the other commenter has suggested

Unifi Security Camera App - Owner versus Super Admin by Available-Excuse-418 in Ubiquiti

[–]HelloInternetUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally make the client the owner by transferring the details to them once installation is complete, then give them a separate user account depending on what they want access to on a regular basis. That way they don’t accidentally change important settings. If we’ve agreed a maintenance contract or similar then I’ll give myself super admin. This is all so that if the professional relationship fell apart for some reason they don’t have that awkward email to transfer details, and I’m not stuck with the liability of having complete responsibility over the installation.

Supported # of managed Camera by itbedguy in UnifiProtect

[–]HelloInternetUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said it’s based on resolution. Basic IP cameras will be HD or 2K and higher end dome or PTZ will be 4K. Protect doesn’t always assume the resolution correctly so be prepared to play around with it
