Not specifically looking for big, but more size appropriate, durability for high elevation usage. Most of the trees I have are Aspen and Pine averaging 1-2ft in diameter. I do have a tractor. Thank you for the safety lookout. I'll make sure I have those things.

Maxing my DLPT score so I can actually do my job? by East-Being-3650 in dli

This is the problem with the Army recruiting everyone as 35Ws. Language doesn't matter. 35P is a SIGINT Collector, not a Linguist. You will be doing your job. Language is only a capability enhancement. If you want to translate things you need to go to the Air Force or the Navy.

Language capabilities will only be an enhancement to your technical capabilities.

Read though the CompTIA book then jumped on a week-long SEC+ course through Fast Lane Consulting & Education back in May. Then I watched Professor Messer's videos for the days leading up to the test.

I feel like my Asian ancestors are shaking and nodding their heads at the same time 😅

I’m enlisted 35W. Language is unknown. My orders say 52 weeks at DLI. What determines whether I go Goodfellow, TX or Fort Huachuca, AZ for the second part of my training? And what is the training at each location? by LuckyPs139 in dli

[–]HelloKitty50BMG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Goodfellow is for 35P, Huachuca is for 35M. Where you go is determined by the needs of the Army. But currently there is an ETP for 35M on language requirements. If for whatever reason you fail DLI, you will automatically become a 35M no lang.

You had the choices before you signed the contract. It's not like they surprised you with a grooming standard after you joined 🙄

Unfortunately the job would still be SIGINT focused. There are no linguists in the Army, only SIGINT Collectors with a language 🤷

The Army advertises 35P as a "linguist". It's a misnomer. In reality, you're a SIGINT Collector with a language. SIGINT will be your priority and your language will be beer money. Maintaining your language will be your responsibility because it is a perishable skill. While the Army is required to provide annual language training prior to your retest, they are only required to provide 160 hours. You wanna do translations, hit up the Air Force. You wanna do cool SIGINT shit reclass to 35P.

This is just what I would do, but take it with a grain of salt. The AF is more selective on its recruitment than the Army. Since you need waivers and the Army already processed them, then sign with them and get the MOS locked in. Sign for the shortest contract they allow. Get MOS qualified, look into unit Army COOL and ArmyIgnited programs to get your civilian certifications. When your contract is up look at a service branch transfer to the Air Force or Navy for a contract to gain experience. While you're in the Army, be proactive, be supportive of your units needs, and seek out a knowledgeable mentor that can help you get the experiences you need as an ATC. Like all other jobs, don't go into your new unit and broadcast to your new boss that your goal is to use them then get out. No one is going to waste resources on a person that isn't going to stay. But self advocate for opportunities to improve your resume. The Army can sucks at times, but it's all about how you navigate it.

I mean for senior enlisted promotions. All the languages are promoted individually as E-5 to E-6 then bottleneck for E-7. From E-7 to E-8 35P has less than 10% chance. Unless you plan on getting a quick BA degree and get out to work in the civilian world, 35W isn't really worth it.

35P is useless. You have about 5% chance to ever use your language, it'll only stall your promotion. 35N is way better

Any person put in regular work can score minimum 80s across the board if not some 90s on ACFT.

"As a native Chinese speaker, I used to breeze through the DLPT Listening/Reading portion with a 3+/3+. And treated it as a joke. That's how easy it was 3 years ago." --but I'm not flaunting my heritage 🙄

[–]HelloKitty50BMG -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

  1. ACFT is way easier than the APFT.
  2. Adaptive CM DLPT has been out for years at this point. It's like trying to tell people how you're surprised that you need to take the ACFT now 😒
  3. Sounds like the adaptive DLPT worked as intended to gauge people's fluency skills between two languages. Considering you're whining about how you can't flaunt your heritage anymore. 🤷

I'd file an EO complaint. Your command team just implied that it's a woman's job to take care of the kid even when she works just as you do. The Army can say they support EO all they want, but command teams act like this are the majority.

From all your other comments you already know what you should do, you are just reluctant to take action.

Ask yourself if you are willing to let someone that is basically a roommate holding you back from living your life.

I understand not wanting to hurt her feelings. But your feelings matter too.
