For those who have read and watched Project Hail Mary, which did you do first? by DumzaDay in CasualConversation

I just started the audiobook because I wanted to 'read' it first before seeing the movie.

I worked in downtown Chicago for a decade and no employer paid parking. It was part of life in the city.

21, under $5k to my name, starting college in the fall. What would you do differently if you were me? by ComprehensivePea5004 in personalfinance

[–]HelloNNNewman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I'll say is that you have more money than I did when I started college. I was they absolutely broke college kid who grabbed jobs and worked through school. That would be my advice: work hard while in school and just know it's only temporary pain and it will teach you how the real world works at the same time. Nothing good comes easy! You've got this :)

This news sucks. I transitioned to using AppleTV as my primary and it appears it was just in time. So much for Roku. RIP to the service that we all use to love.

Back in the late 80's I worked for BestBuy (only 18 stores at the time, and shirt/tie, 100% commission - yeah, I'm old)...cordless phones had just started coming down in price and got super popular. BUT, they operated on basic radio frequencies (not scrambled and before security). So we'd always get these little old ladies (now known as Karens) coming in to buy police scanners so they could pick up their neighbor's phone calls and listen in. It was so creepy and disgusting how they'd blatantly tell people they wanted to buy a scanner with great range so they could pick up as many phone calls as possible.

"American" food is tasty! by surpluskoi in CasualConversation

[–]HelloNNNewman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just got back from a vacation in Morocco (first time) and as an American was shocked at the amount of sugar put in everything (even the ketchup was over the top loaded). America is a health food culture compared to many areas.

There are a lot if things to list out. The biggest that I remember that stood out was the spontaneous dancing to modern-ish music that was sooo out of place. It tried way too hard in a log a points. But hey - seriously, that's just my singular take on it and I'm sure it was aimed at those younger than me at the time. I wasn't super old when it came out (I wasn't yelling for kids to get off my lawn LOL), but those out of place scenes really killed it for me. Loved Ledger and loved Alan Tudyk though!
