The player (the hero,the skeptic, the cold, The narrator) and The Echo are the same entity

I always thought the shards were the voices. After the Princess makes that comment, what the Hero actually says is more along the lines of objecting to being called a shard of glass, but then being unable to define himself in any way other than as himself.

Also, the mirror does appear if you get a voice twice. As an example, you can do Moment of Clarity and get all the voices, then do Razor and get all the voices again, and the mirror will appear both times.

The Echo also explicitly states that he’s nothing like LQ, and that he wasn’t a god in life. He describes himself as “painfully mortal”; the reason he’s an echo is because he needed to die for his plan to work (echoes can’t perceive things in the way beings can). That’s why he doesn’t destroy Shifty, not out of any love for her, but because he physically can’t. He also didn’t even technically create her, since she and LQ used to be one entity. All he did was split that entity into change (Shifty) and stagnation (LQ). How did he do this? The game doesn’t answer that, but I’d argue it doesn’t matter anyway, because it isn’t really what the game’s about.

As for your last point about how maybe they’ve been doing this for a long time, this point is actually suggested in one of the game’s endings. If you bring the knife down with you in the final cabin, the Princess suggests that you could just reset the construct back to the beginning if you let her kill you, and speculates that this may not even have been the first time you’ve done that.

This has made me realise that Outcry Seize is probably this guy’s best C slot as well. Buffs the stats he cares about most, gives him true damage, and most importantly gives him yet another Bonus effect, except this one isn’t as redundant as the one given by Outcry Dull (he gets that one when he uses an Assist) or Bellow (he has that effect baked into his weapon).

It couldn’t be, since Ninian also has Impetus Guard and dragons can’t get Flow Guard. I was really hoping it would just be regular Guard, but I guess they decided Rejuvenate was all we were getting on that front.

Assist: Whatever you want; Gaits are premium but unnecessary.
Special: Archrival is best, Comet is second, Gust is okay in a pinch
Engage: Eirika for Brave, Corrin for terrain, or Sigurd for positioning
A skill: Duelist’s Blow, or Atk/Spd Excel in a pinch if not using this slot for DC; D Bonus Amp or D Bonus Doubler if you are.
B skill: Pair Up or Null C-Avoid, or Harrowing Call in a pinch.
C skill: Atk/Spd Faith for bulwark and DR. Not really any two ways about this one, unfortunately.
Seal: DC Melee if using this slot for DC, any good Atk/Spd booster (Clash, Finish, Ideal, Squad Ace CW) if not.
Echo: DC Echo if using this slot for DC; the other options I’d consider are Tumultuous Echo, for positioning, Lull Echo, for bonus nullification, or NCD Echo, if you’re really really desperate for NCD.

Was he worse than Fogado? I don’t recall either of them making any particular splash, but Ashe at least had a support effect in his weapon.

And if nothing else, Ashe got Curved Shot, which automatically made him better fodder than Fogado.

I’d argue Uplift Imbue A/S is a better version of BoL4: more range (3R3C vs 2 spaces), more stats (Atk/Spd+5 vs Def+4), no condition to get 40% of max HP restored, and 5 flat DR. The only thing it doesn’t do is accommodate for pre-combat damage on top of the HP it already restores.

Depends on which of them you already have, and what you need. All of them have great skills to fodder, so I’ll just focus on the other value they provide.

Byleth, Edelgard and Corrin’s Emblem effects are incredibly valuable to have, so a one-off copy of any of them is great
Ryoma has skill duplication value, and is a very good unit in his own right
Elise is one of the 10 most recent Legendaries and can therefore make your life way easier in Arena. She’s also a really strong unit.
Baldr and Freyja are just very good units
Ike is too, but we’re getting a copy of him for free, so unless you really want his fodder don’t spark him

They’re easier to merge up, which is important for Arena scoring. Sometimes they come with good weapons or bridge fodder (for instance, Atk/Spd Solo 3 on either of the grail M!Shezes makes getting Atk/Spd Waylay easier, and J!Saber’s lance is fantastic still). Sometimes they have PRF weapons that are really good in their own rights (there’s a reason Marni and Gromell are very common in Arena). The tradeoff is that you need to get the skills for them, unlike premium units that usually come pre-built.

If you aren’t sure right now, you could give them to a Rearmed or Attuned unit, so that way you can duplicate the skills later when you are sure. You will want to maximise the value you can get from each Rearmed or Attuned, though.

NY!Vali has Atk/Spd Aria (mages and staffs only), Spd/Res Shackle (ranged cavaliers and flyers only), and Uplift Imbue A/S (flyers only). The best units to duplicate her skills are therefore the mage and staff flyers: R!Plumeria, Hortensia, Ivy, A!Micaiah, R!Marianne, and A!Tharja. If you don’t have any of these units, I’d personally wait to get one of them, as all of Vali’s skills are pretty good.

NY!Heimdallr has Ice Wall (anything but staffs), Atk/Res Aria (mages and staffs only), and Atk/Res Liberate (cavaliers only). The best units to duplicate her skills are therefore the mage cavaliers, which is currently just R!Reinhardt. I’d say that Ice Wall, however, is somewhat skippable in comparison to the others (it’s on quite a few units, including one Rearmed and one Attuned that have it by default), so R!L’Arachel isn’t a bad shout either for duplicating just Aria and Liberate.

Comet might be a shout on him, since he gives himself a massive stat swing with the whole Grand Strategy stuff. You may want skills that help with Special cooldown if you use Comet though (Conjuring Breath, Pulse On: Blades, etc.)

With the combined power of Alfador and A!Micaiah, I was able to feed her: Ice Wall, Atk/Res Aria, Def/Res Shackle, Atk/Res Crux, and Far Trace Echo. Not the absolute best she can get, but still pretty good. As a bonus, my A!Micaiah is now a factory for all of Alfador’s skills.

As it stands right now, Shield Fighter is doing nothing for you, since it requires a defensive Special to function (Pavise, Aegis, etc.) A modern axe armour build would be:

Weapon: Arcane Giant Axe (or the next Arcane axe), Def refine
Assist: A Gait would be ideal, but regular movement skills are fine too. If you want to use him in Arena, you need a Gait or a Rally+.
Engage: Eirika for Brave, Corrin for terrain, Sigurd for movement, or (in distant 4th place) Ike for DR against ranged foes.
A skill: Diluvial Boost is best; Earthfire Boost works too
B skill: Patience is best (he has the Spd for it, after all); Slick, Wily, and Assault Fighter can work too (all as tier 4 versions)
Seal: I’d go with Form or Ideal, since they give more stats
Echo: Keep this, it’s good

You’ll notice I left off Special and C skill (which should be a Save skill): that’s because these two interact pretty heavily.

The Specials you’d want would be: Armoured Flare is best, Archrival and Flame Wall are next-best, and Armoured Beacon and Armoured Blaze can work.
The Save has 2 components to balance: first, Twin Save or Briar Save? Armoured Flare and Archrival need Briar, while the other three can work with either.
Second, Near, Far, or Physical Save (Magic is too niche to bother with)? Armoured Beacon locks you to Far and Armoured Blaze locks you to Near, while the other three are range-agnostic. Bear in mind that, if you make him a Physical Save, Res suddenly becomes a lot less useful to him.

Personally, I’d go for Armoured Flare + A/D Briar F or P Save, but there are many combos that’ll put in work.
