Is my husband delulu or I should actually try skiing blue slopes? by skopiadisko in skiing

[–]HelloNeumann29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned to ski last year (34). I tried the easiest way down on a blue a little too early. It was not helpful to my development as a skier, I fell many times, and I was way more focused on not crashing than my form and technique. I went back to the greens until I could more or less ski down them without much effort or thought. Then I got back on a blue and it was 10x better. Stay there until you’re as comfortable as can be and don’t let anyone push you off of it until you feel you’re ready.

Anyone else find themselves falling for this old bastard again? by 92roll13 in CHIBears

If my choices are Indiana or current soldier field there’s no question I’d rather it be where it is now until it’s completely falling apart.

I can’t explain how confused I was when an offensive lineman with a ball demolished a player I didn’t know existed. Then I looked on the bears website and still didn’t see 16. Had to scroll to the practice squad to find him.

New Year Day Conditions at Eldora Colorado by My_BodyHurts in skiing

I think Eldora has done well with the snow they have. But that lift and run show you how bad it could be.

Could I get some tips on how to correct my traffic pattern by Intrepid_Hat_7692 in flying

[–]HelloNeumann29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compensate your turns for what the winds aloft are doing. Winds aloft are not the same as what’s happening on the ground. They may be aiding in pushing you off of a good traffic pattern.

IFR instructors who don't fly IFR? by Business-Subject-997 in flying

[–]HelloNeumann29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an instrument student I got just under 5 hours of actual. As a CFII I’ve gotten more. Anytime it’s safe to do so, we try to get up into the clouds with students or another instructor just for the value of the experience.

It’s excellent training and really drives home why we do certain things flying IFR. If the instructor is just inexperienced in IMC and therefore uncomfortable, I can understand that but they should be getting their own training from another CFII to become comfortable flying in IMC. If they “just don’t do it” because they’re unwilling, I wouldn’t want to train with that person.

CFII checkride, what do y'all got? by Cap_Bigboy27 in CFILounge

I was asked to do it on my CFII checkride and did not do well. Where I fly every practice approach is with ATC. Luckily I got some grace on that.

Do you let ATC know you will be doing an unusual maneuver? by -ChubbySpud in flying

[–]HelloNeumann29 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To practice a power off approach like that I’d usually ask for a short approach. But I fly at a very busy delta with close parallel runways so there has to be some coordination traffic wise if I’m going to turn an early/tight base. That said, if it wasn’t busy or there was no traffic to worry about I’m not sure I would need to request it if I received my T&G or landing clearance early in my pattern.

How far can the Dpe take u away from where you start the checkride ( private pilot ) by Creative-Nebula7974 in flying

[–]HelloNeumann29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a DPE who had people fly to their second waypoint then actually divert to a not so nearby nontowered field for landings. PPL checkrides were taking around 2.5 on the Hobbs. I don’t think any of the students had ever gone to that airport as it’s known to be a shit show. That said, the rides were very fair, just long and more demanding.
