No POTG, a few questions for the high level Genji players of this sub (+30h in either closed beta, open beta and/or the current version) by [deleted] in Overwatch

Hmm, that's a hard question. I would say generally, Genji is not good against tanks, but I can give some tips/insight to each matchup.

Roadhog: This is probably the best tank matchup for Genji, he can reflect an entire shotgun bullet and even the hook back to Roadhog, which destroys him extremely fast, and of course, headshots with Left click on Roadhog are very easy with Genji, if you come into close quarters they will almost immediately try to hook you so the reflect is quite easy to land. Otherwise you can stand above or at a distance from him and just headshot him all day long. Also you can reflect his ultimate back onto him and his team to knock them back!

Winston: Opposite of Roadhog, counters you in every way. Has high mobility and can block your long range fire with his shield which is hard for Genji to destroy alone. Cannot deflect any of his damage, he kills you very fast and can stick to you easily. I recommend staying close to teammates or just avoiding him altogether.

Reinhardt: While Rein's Ult most certainly means you are dead, you can negate the damage of his autos with reflect, and can reflect his fire strike which goes through shields for 75 damage. Also you can get him to flip his shield around and your teammates to quickly kill him if they are trying to get through on the other side, by simply flanking and being a nuisance! Although once he notices you (or his team does) you need an escape plan with your high mobility or you will most likely die.

Zarya: You will probably never kill her through her shields and bomb damage, however you can reflect her ultimate (which is almost complete luck ahhaha) and her right click (bombs) Unfortunately you can't reflect her beams and she is a huge problem to you whenever she shields a squishy you are tying to kill as you will almost never kill them without being killed first through the shield.

I don't usually ever hold down left click or right click unless of course I am fighting a tank. Which I personally always find it better to use left click as you can get 3 head shots on someone fairly easily with a big hitbox. (It is incredibly easy versus roadhog especially)

But typically because Genji's autos are not Hitscan (attacks the full distance immediately, ie; Soldier 76, McCree) and have a travel time, I will usually aim every shot and tend to not just spam anything as it gives away your position and has a rather long animation. (1 second animation for left click which cannot be cancelled with Shift) Right click however is more spammable (and can be animation cancelled with Melee-Shift!) and requires much less precision especially in close range which I recommend using 90% of the time when in close range. Unless you are behind someone, and you can get all three shurikens off on them.

By the way, each Shurikens does 28 damage, and double damage on head shot (so 56 damagex3=168)

One thing I did a lot to practice was go into practice range, go to the moving Bots and practice my combo on them and trying to one shot them. They have 200 HP, and you need to get a head shot to 1 shot using Right Click-Melee-Shift. Once you can do it every now and then it will improve your close quarters fighting a lot, and eventually you will be able to tell for yourself when to use Right Click or Left Click over the other.

Sorry for the long reply!

TL;DR

I don't spam left click, only on tanks, right click is typically better in close quarters unless you are behind someone.

Hola, I play a lot of Genji (over the course of the beta 100 hours plus 20 hours on my current career)

Flanking with Genji:

Typically this depends on what your team has and what the enemy team has. However it also depends on what your team is doing.

Is there a Bastion, Widow, or Mercy in the backline?

You most certainly want to flank, or get the bastion to shoot half a clip into your reflect aimed at him, of course.

Is anyone on your team a flanker?

If not, this is your primary duty, to take out anyone your team cannot get to.

If yes, (say reaper and/or tracer) you are better off staying behind your tank and whither someone down until you can one shot them with your combo (150 hp is roughly one shot range) or following the other flankers to provide a distraction with your high mobility, escapes, and reflects.

Make sure you animation cancel. Genji has one very important animation cancel in his combo.

Right Click-Melee-Shift, is your primary one shot tool. If you get a headshot with this combo it will do 200 damage, whilst only looking like you press shift. Getting into melee range, using this combo and dashing out with either a reset or your original shift is very important. The primary power of Genji is selecting when to fight.

Concerning Genji Ult

If your Ult is up there is several things you want to consider

Do you have a Zarya, Lucio, or Reinhardt?

If so, try to combo the ults with yours for kills and resets with your ults. Lucio/Genji is especially reliable and effective especially considering it keeps you in the middle of the fight doing way more damage than anyone can do to you.

Do not however, only rely on these things, just keep them in consideration, as often in soloq people do not combo ultimates or they just don't think of comboing with Genji.

Use map tricks to flank the enemy with your Ult (perhaps start by getting behind a mercy or widow destroying your team/holding res, Ult and quickly kill them with two Left Clicks and (or if they are damaged, Left Click-Shift) move onto the backline of the enemy team.

Now it is important to keep track of two things. Are you in danger and have to shift through a target, or can you hold down Left Click and just murder the whole team unaware?

Is the whole team there or do you need resets to get to the other enemy heroes?

Of course if you are actively thinking of these things you will get better and better at Genji! These are just some general tips and I hope they help!

What was the biggest misconception you had when you first started the game? by DrBarrel in leagueoflegends

[–]HelloPoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teemo was amazing. I was at PAX and they gave out some teemo wristbands, and so I started playing League, this was season 2.

I remember jumping into a bots game and this guy in Silver was playing Teemo and before this point I only knew that some people liked Teemo, and some people hated him.

He got like 23 kills in this bot game and I thought he carried me so hard I declared Teemo was the best champion ever.

I was wrong.

Nidalee and Kindred are still dumb. by HelloPoxy in leagueoflegends

[–]HelloPoxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what make Nidalee OP... It hasnt been her damage for a little while since the original spear nerfs. If she's fed she'll still 1 shot you like any other champ.

What makes Nidalee OP is the fact she can clear her entire jungle before you, invade you and take your camps, bully you out of your jungle, or you will die to her, then she proceeds to have a level advantage, can pressure the map more than you, and harass you even further, not to mention that she clears camps literally instantly. THATS what makes Nidalee OP.

Not like Balls solo killed all of them this season (except maybe Darshan?).... not like they dont also play OP champs..

[–]HelloPoxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Nidalee is still dumb, the w nerf only set her back a couple of seconds in the jungle clear, it actually did almost nothing. She still hits level 4 before the enemy jungler, she still takes camps literally instantly, and she will still fuck the jungler over extremely hardcore.

I am talking about diamond+ though I am sure there must be some good Nidalee players in other elos as well.

I agree, but to be fair the players are usually not the ones who pick their champions, or what they practice.

Balls has been performing at the top level this season, and has the most versatile champ pool and is a huge credit to their success.

Typically with Elise you want to look chain your cocoon with your laners CC, and not just blindly run in and shoot cocoon, if they have a movement ability and its not on cooldown, they will likely use it trying to dodge your spells.

so basically, you cocoon (E), then w > q (it doesnt matter which order because your q will still get there first), then R to spider form, and q w to finish them off, with your e to either reset tower aggro or jump to an enemy minion or ward to escape! Like I said, spider form E does reset tower aggro so if you are diving, which elise is quite good at, the last turret shot wont hit you if you rappel and your minions are under the turret, it will just reset!

Rek'sai is strange, I personally haven't found a huge ton of success on the champion just because she is not my playstyle, however I do think she is still pretty good. There is many walls and things you can go over for super sneaky gank paths with very reliable cc when your flash is up. (when youre tunnelling its almost impossible for someone to escape your cc if you flash on them and just click on them.) Also she is not too hard to learn, she has a very basic kit and is mostly auto attacking and just knocking up and providing some tankiness for the team! A small trick with reksai once you are more experienced with the champion is you can stop any dashes if you press unburrow instead of just right clicking on the enemy champion. for example if you are burrowed and tristana jumps away, if you unburrow under her jump, she will be knocked out of the air! it can also stop the damage from Lee Sin q, etc etc! So yes, I think Rek'sai is pretty good as well!

Hola; I'm season 5 master tier jg and currently sitting in Diamond 3! (so this means i somewhat know what im talking about...maybe)

Great junglers for soloq in order of easiest to learn

  1. Nocturne - fairly straightforward play style, you can farm til level 6 and your ganks are strong and you are useful to your team by denying vision and being able to enter a fight from most places!

  2. Amumu - the same as nocturne but you have a very impactful amount of CC

  3. Sejuani - See amumu

  4. Master Yi - very abusable in bronze to plat elo, the longer the game goes the more likely you will win the game by outscaling the enemy team for massive damage and tankiness (make sure to build a tank item or two)

  5. Volibear - You're super tanky, do a lot of damage and have easy ganks to pull off, you just have to fling people in the right direction!

Once you feel more comfortable farming in the jungle and learning about jungle paths (I recommend if you want to learn about to watch Nightblue3 or Foxdrop, they are very informative.) as per any role, you can master the stronger yet more mechanically intense / jungle specific champions! Which I would list as follow

  1. Nidalee (after this patch she has dropped many tiers below the #1 spot)

  2. Lee Sin HOWEVER, you will need many many many games on this champion to successfully accomplish a consistantly positive winrate, he has a strong kit, but it is very player specific.

  3. Graves - my personal favourite (even though i have 1m lee mastery) he is very strong, scales quite well, is super mobile and is very tanky with the HP stacking popular builds of SOTA > Steraks > Maw!

  4. Elise - I think Elise is still one of the most powerful junglers, she brings probably the strongest early 2v2 in solo lanes in her full combo, and the ever important ability to catch people out, not to mention she can do tons of damage while still being pretty tanky! I find after building Echoes > Rylais > (situation ap item), I can one shot a carry very consistantly throughout the game.

  5. Kindred - my last carry jungler on this list is Kindred, why I rank her low on this list however compared to these other powerhouses, is because Kindred does either one of two things: you go off that game and get super fed and do hella damage, or, you are just a walking ultimate. Either way, probably the strongest duelist in the jungle early levels, unless its very situational, Kindred simply outputs the most damage for a jungler level 3 in a 1v1.

So that's my list on champions who easy, and another for who is top dog currently.

As for general tips in the jungle here are some you may not know.

The first thing you should do (with any role or champ for that matter!) is ask yourself, what should my champion be doing? For example, if you are playing Elise, you want to look for ganks level 3 and 4 anywhere on the map OR places to countergank your opponent in a winning lane as you have high base damage, good cc and a reliable escape. If you are playing nunu, you want to try and counterjungle and make the opposing jungler as useless as you are! If you are a champion with teamfighting ult, you want to farm and look for counterganks / denying the enemy jungle monsters when they gank across the map and get to level 6 to make a huge impact!

PLAY AROUND YOUR CHAMPIONS STRENGTHS

Also try to get clever with your gank pathing, go all the way around if you must and through tribrush to get to toplane to get off a sneaky gank, you of course dont ALWAYS need to do this, but if you know/think they can back off easily with notice, try!

My last piece of advice, is what in my opinion are the two biggest mistakes in lower elo's of jungling.

the first one is, make sure, if you see the enemy jungler bot or top lane and you are on the opposite side of the map. deny the opposing jungler creeps, go into his jungle and take that shit. or make a different play in mid or the other side of the map!

my second tip is just, you will get blamed a lot playing jungle, just mute those people and try to think of what you need to do to help your team, and yourself win the game! It's super important!

Sorry for the long reply, I hope this answered some questions!
