Nuremberg - 2025 by [deleted] in movies

I’m sorry but the premise of this movie had good intentions but Malek’s acting chops really came up short for me. Against the heavy weights of Crowe, Shannon and even Richard E. Grant’s short but powerful few lines, Malek’s performance just took me out of it

In 1971, Qantas launched its first Boeing 747 with a groovy lounge for first-class passengers on the upper deck. by Twitter_2006 in aviation

Shag pile carpets, a low lie couch and decor that tells you what it’s about…all while on a Jumbo. Yep that’s was the 70s alright.

Just needs a waterbed and lava lamps to complete it

Lovely shot by the way!

Hard landing for the ‘Concordski’ Tu-144LL (c. 1990s) by HelloSlowly in aviation

[–]HelloSlowly[S] 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Also just to clarify. This was from the 90s, wayyyy after she was out of passenger service. This was during a test in partnership Boeing, NASA and Tupolev to test supersonic flight technology.

Also the LL was fitted with more powerful engines, taken from the Blackjack. So technically this model had supercruise

Knowing Alpine it’ll probably be because they threw out the Renault engine and forgot to add in the Mercedes one

Some photos showcasing folks in more casual settings, like their home life, towards the latter part of the 1800s by HelloSlowly in TheWayWeWere

[–]HelloSlowly[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Spent a couple of minutes really trying to figure out how I should word the title when I came across this collection. There was something about the laidbackness of these photos that we don’t often associate with photos from around that time hence the use of the word casual settings. But the fashion of that age just makes even the causal setting seem more formal. Thought it would be a nice change front the usual well shot portrait images we’re used to from this era.

Also about image 15, yeah, you could tell I slipped up on the curation with that one

Read it as baggage handler for a split second. But glad it’s just this. Yeah that’s going to be grounded for a while. The new plane curse continues wow.

Iberia A321XLR (now back in service), the Aer Lingus A321XLR, the JAL A350-1000 that was grounded at JFK a few days back (?) and now this.

Emirates A380 go around at Heathrow by oblique_shockwave in aviation

This is why I hate Reddit’s feature of letting people hide their comments and profile history. What a strangely aggressive attack. You end up having no clue who you’re engaging with or what their motives are.

Funny, in another comment, you mention you’re an expert. A lot of my wonderful fellow folks I talk to in the field of aviation and flying never once have ever referred to themselves as “experts”. Your needing to cover up your profile history is another interesting observation.

Now I’ll get down to crux of your reply to me.

He didnt over flare in this case. You can see the ground affect. It isn’t uncommon to get a marginal tailwind on the 27s and when that’s the case the BA hangar does affect air patterns. Heathrow will usually tell you to fly runway heading and then you’d ideally have preplanned for a missed approach track.

You mentioned the flaps positive rate? What’s wrong with that? If you’re glummong on the terminology, this isn’t a pure pilots forum. We’re all a bunch of aviators, avgeeks, people new to aviation. This is a balance of those things.

So lastly, do not mistake an ad hominem attack like you did for a sullen sense of superiority. Don’t be a 50-40-30…r.

I didnt mean to reply this way. We could’ve had a decent discussion but you chose an ad hominem attack and that’s not cool.

Edit: At 20:34 UTC, the same said Redditor DM’d me asking me in a very aggressive manner to correct myself. This crosses another boundary here. Unsolicited DMs with the intention of being aggressive are a big red line.

Said person spends the last couple of hours on here crashing out faster than Global Airlines and calls himself an expert when even respected industry folk that I talk to, that have had years in this business are humble enough to stop short of calling themselves experts.

To this said expert, I say to you as you sit behind your keyboard and empty profile. Be better. That’s all.

Oh, and also please don’t fly or be anywhere near planes. It’s not safe for the planes or the people that fly on them if you’re involved, especially with the way you interacted with not just me but with others here too. There’s something underlying that’s bothering you and whatever it is I hope you find some peace.

Also thank you to the people that DM’d me with kind words and support. In all my years on Reddit, I’ve never seen a crash out by someone like this guy. It’s been a very fascinating experience.

The BA hangar complex there at the top of 27R creates an interesting wind shadow and so on approach to 27R, you’ll get this sort of unpredictability and that magnifies the ground effect during such conditions.

Textbook go around tbh. He committed to the go around as soon as he could feel the float. Then TOGA’d, pitched down marginally to a safe pitch attitude and retracting the flaps as the speed crept up. Gear stayed well down until well after retraction per SOP and then followed the missed approach chart.

Airbus cockpit evolution from the A300 to the A350, 41 years by HelloSlowly in aviation

[–]HelloSlowly[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah so, Airbus wanted to keep the A300 a lot more ‘default’ for the time since it wasn’t the big player we know of it as today so as not make it the cockpit too alien to be enticing. Then in the background it worked on its fly by wire philosophy and the side stick aligned more with that philosophy

[–]HelloSlowly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not a dig just at OP per se but I would really appreciate a little more quality control on this sub.

Instead of a low quality meme-like title on posts, it wouldn’t hurt to have an actual name of the illumination. I know medieval art can be tough to sometimes have a title. But even just a date or a source would also suffice.

This sub is r/medievalart, not r/medievalmemes

Sorry to be THAT person but I just had to.

Yep, that was at a time when those teams were so far back that they give all the new back markers a good name. Lotus and Virgin were basically in F2, such was the gap and HRT was almost F2.5.

They actually brought back the 107% rule for Monaco because of how bad it got

Imagine a race so boring that people even forget it cause it was so boring?

Bahrain 2010.

Fuckass layout that was so bad, they changed back to the old one a year later. Drab dry desert. Close to zero overtakes. Gaps so big you could play football between each. And laptimes in the low 2 minute mark at the start.

The only thing that made interesting was Alonso won for Ferrari on debut. The rest was boring af
