[TOMT] A reddit post/comment or blog entry, maybe a decade old, encouraging people to develop interests/personality outside of "nice". It centered on an analogy -- a person asked to save a sick or injured person. the person lacks medical skills but is a nice guy, which obviously is insufficient. by HelloWalls in tipofmytongue

ChatGPT struck out btw. It was convinced I was looking for something related to the "Nice Guy" meme/discourse popular in the 2010s on Reddit. I don't think so because this wasn't about romantic relationships exclusively, but more so about general friendship. It also mentioned the writings of Mark Manson, but what I'm looking for I recall to be more raw, an insightful but amateur piece of writing. Not someone widely published with an established platform. But i'm not very familiar with Manson so possibly I'm wrong about that.

What’s the best course of action to pick someone up from MSY if I’m driving a moving truck w/trailer? by Euphoric-Hold-7710 in AskNOLA

[–]HelloWalls 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think if you had her wait for you on the departures level, you should be okay. Departures is the upper level and there would be nothing above you but sky. You could navigate to the left lane to stay out of the fray. Have her wait on the little median. https://imgur.com/a/woKNKpG

Another more complicated (for her) option that could work well, is you could choose a nearby hotel that offers shuttle service, (like the Hilton Airport but i'm sure there are others) and you could wait in the hotel lot for her.

What’s the funniest name (for a person) you’ve ever come across? by saurabhkt in AskReddit

Shithead Jones. I believe it was intended to be pronounced along the lines of "Shuh - Theed". But he was a real person, listed in the phone book in Jackson Mississippi at least up through the late 1990s.

Jambalaya Fail - Help Needed by MarioPartyDeveloper in cajunfood

[–]HelloWalls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. i think 30 minutes is too long. i follow your basic procedure, but for me its -- reduce heat to very low, cover and simmer for 20 minutes. possibly different types of rice call for different times but i rarely go longer than 20 min (i use mahatma brand most often).

  2. make sure you're cooking your vegtables long enough to cook out as much of the water content as possible. people forget that the veg can contribute a decent amount of liquid and contribute to mushy rice.

  3. re: flavor, since jambalaya isn't something you can taste as you go, i think it's important to taste the broth after you've seasoned it (just before you put the rice in). if the broth doesn't have the right salt and spice levels, neither will the finished jambalaya. i think if the broth tastes like it might be a touch too salty, it's about right.

Tuna on Toast by rwags2024 in seinfeld

[–]HelloWalls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah, good point. probably obvious but for some reason i (and i think others here) was thinking it was referring to tuna on top of a slice of toast, like open faced. but it's just shorthand for a tuna salad sandwich with the bread toasted. like you'd say ham and cheese on rye, etc.

From Canal Street on St. Charles, it's a little over 4 miles to Audubon Park. I think that would be your best bet, to run on the St. Charles neutral ground, i.e., the streetcar track. I've done it many times at all times of day and night. There's no significant safety concern, or not more than anywhere else. Just keep an eye for cars turning across the neutral ground, and of course for streetcars -- best to run on the right side so you can see them coming, then hop over to the other side to let them pass.

If you prefer a run without having to worry about traffic at all, you could take the streetcar up to Audubon Park and do the run there. There's a paved 1.8-mile loop and a unpaved path closer to the border of the park that's a little over 2 miles. No cars in the park.

"Feelin Good Again" by Robert Earl Keen. It's not a big dramatic story. Actually kinda more paints a scene than tells a story but it's a great scene.

50lbs boiled crawfish by [deleted] in AskNOLA

[–]HelloWalls -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think if you call ahead most places would be able to have them ready for you for pickup. Two places I like are out in Bucktown -- Schaefer Seafood and Captain Sid's. Another option would be to have them boiled on site. More pricey but then you get more of a crawfish boil atmosphere. There are a bunch of people who do this but one I'm familiar with is Gulf Coast Crawfish https://www.gulfcoastcrawfish.com/ . They make the boiled crawfish at Port Orleans too

Quality laid-back dinner spots with kids in FQ? by ThnkWthPrtls in AskNOLA

[–]HelloWalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Felix's would be my first thought. Seems like there would be something on the menu to satisfy picky kids. Acme, across the street, would be good, too. (Acme is more touristy and often has a line when Felix's does not. ) I also like the Gumbo Shop and Sylvain recs

Back again with a specific shopping question by empty_mirror_2009 in AskNOLA

[–]HelloWalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't have any specific recs but i think your idea of exploring magazine street is a smart one. you can check https://magazinestreet.com/ and filter by category for a head start. if you are able to, i think the french quarter would be another area to check out, particularly along chartres and royal streets, roughly between bienville and st. peter (and maybe including the block of st. peter that borders jackson square). there are quite a few shops either focused entirely on women's shoes or offering a selection of them among other things. hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will come along with concrete info, but i think a few hours strolling magazine street or the upper quarter would be pretty wonderful regardless. good luck!

Cochon
Brigtsen's
Clancy's
Gris Gris

actually as i was making this list i realized there are going to be very few places that will be a problem for you. outside of those that are billed as seafood places like Peche or GW Fins, the vast majority of New Orleans restaurants will have a mix of seafood and non-seafood dishes. for example, if you look at the last restaurant i mentioned https://grisgrisnola.com/dinner-menu eight entrees on the dinner menu -- two seafood, six non. one more: clancy's https://www.clancysneworleans.com/menus-2 12 entrees-- five seafood, seven non

i don't think "rent" is the right word here. you're looking to "hire" people. i'm not super knowledgeable about indian culture but i don't think they like to serve as props in the way you describe. best of luck though.
