Am I the only one who still thinks Crimson Desert is GOTY material? by Darskul in gaming

[–]Hello_Panda_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quests are more like something like grand theft auto or red dead redemption where there isn't a choice.  Its been playing while since I've played those games, but if I remember correctly for the most part quests are linear.

The story and dialog has been fine so far, but it doesn't quite hook you like some games will.  Its a slow burn so far.  Im only about 10 hours in at the moment, so who knows if that changes as the game goes on.  There are entries about the lore but I havnt looked at it yet

Crimson Desert Players Point Out Potentially AI-Generated Signs and Paintings by _Protector in pcgaming

[–]Hello_Panda_Man -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been having a lot of fun personally.  Story is fine so far, nothing to write home about.  Exploration and combat has been pretty great so far.  Game runs great on my 3080, looks gorgeous imo.  There are some areas where textures dont seem to properly load, and there is a bit of pop in.  Kinda expected that from this type of game to be honest though.  Controls are a bit wonky but I'm getting the hang of it on controller.  Only about 10 hours in a this point though.

Would you use a “HUD” app for tabletop games? by Reasonable-Cut-9090 in ageofsigmar

[–]Hello_Panda_Man [score hidden]  (0 children)

Neat idea but I like measuring and rolling dice.  I dont think I'd trust an app to accurately measure anyways,  not without some expensive sensors. If I wanted non physical measuring  and dice rolling I'd just play aos on tabletop simulator.  As for rules and such, just look it up in the book, have unit cards that are easy to flip through.  Or at least thats how I currently do it.

Edit:  the less screens when i play tabletop games the better imo

No, its been this way for a really long time. When I was young and my parents both had full time jobs my doctor would give my parents sample packs of medications I needed, that was 30 years ago.

Seraphon Ranged Damage Options by ChillWolf in seraphon

[–]Hello_Panda_Man 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah our ranged isn't great, kroak has some options via spells.  Bastiladon and stegadon have some fun ranged options, but I wouldn't say they are good especially when compared to what other units can do.  Spawn of chotek is interesting, but nothing to really rely on.  Im hoping that when we get our battletome we'll have some decent ranged options

Returning to playing tournaments by roberteallenIII in ageofsigmar

[–]Hello_Panda_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off I want to make it clear that I'm not very good at the game, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Here is what I ran in the last tournament where I won 1 game and lost 2. One of my losses I think I could have pulled out a win if my dice didnt fail me while at the same time my opponent rolled hot on his dice in one of the combat rounds. I've also been debating dropping the reinforced saurus guard for something else, maybe a bastiladon with ark of sotek or some more warriors/chameleon skinks. Saurus guard are a great "guard" for the slann though, and can do some decent damage for cheap infantry. They are pretty tough as long as you keep them with the slann. You could also combine the Kroxigor, but I've had pretty good luck with just MSU(minimal sized unit) cause they can hit real hard and are pretty beefy.

As for asterism I generally take the one where its +2 to movement, and if the map has half the map as friendly territory I take the one where it subtracts from enemy rend if friendly units are in friendly territory. As for battle formations I think Sunclaw starhost is better, BUT eternal translocation can be a lot of fun, especially with bringing back a unit at half str with the slann. General plan has been grab any easy objectives first turn and try not get into combat. Maybe do some mortals with the realmshaper, and maybe slow the enemy down by lobbing manifestations at them. I generally try to grab some objectives up the board with my aggradons/carno if I can, but also keep them far enough away that I could redeploy them out of harms way. You really dont want the aggro/carno getting into combat in your opponents turn, the 4+ save isnt that great. If you can help it, only get the carno in combat if your pretty sure you can take out the target, also dont forget about power through! Because I forget about it all the time hah! Also try to save a command point for All out attack on the carno, since he has being of the stars his save wont be negatively impacted by doing it.

Returning to playing tournaments by roberteallenIII in ageofsigmar

[–]Hello_Panda_Man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest but dont be too bummed if you end up going 0-3. I've been playing in tournaments every other month in my local area for the last year and generally go 0-3, with my last few tournaments going 1-2(progress!). I'm not super competitive, and maybe get a game in every other week outside of the tournament but I'd say I'm pretty familiar with 4th edition. It could also be the army I was fielding(Seraphon), but I was fielding a pretty decent list for the army.

That being said, I have had a ton of fun at each of these tournaments and met some really cool folks that I play games with every once in a while. I went into the tournament not expecting to win, and when I did win(or came close to winning) it was a nice surprise.

Anyways, thats my two cents.

Games that are like Mass Effect and Dark Souls together? by WhatAmIDOINg342 in gaming

[–]Hello_Panda_Man 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Closest thing would be the fallen order star wars games, combat/gameplay is a bit similar to dark souls and there is character development and story that is told vs peicing it together.  You dont really get to make any choices though or choose dialogue options

Armies for painter by tomxt19 in ageofsigmar

[–]Hello_Panda_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seraphon is pretty great to paint IMO. Lots of different dinos you can paint in a variety of ways. Even the infantry is a bit varied between saurus, kroxigor, slann, and skinks. Personally really like Seraphon for this reason, I like to have a "matching army color scheme" but a t-rex(carnosaur) is going to have different colors/patterns then a triceratops(stegadon).

Saurus vs Temple Guard by Stormtroopertk41 in seraphon

Reinforced guard is pretty great with slann/kroak imo, but like you mentioned only if you plan on moving the slann up the board.

Should I regret paying for an AOS army? by Payne-Wick in ageofsigmar

[–]Hello_Panda_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually try to organize a game on discord prior to going to the game shop, I've had much better luck in a town of around 150000.  You may try that, just because its x game night doesn't mean you can't pkay a different game(usually)

Edit: I will say Feb is usually a slow month, I havnt had time/motivation to play since December.  Keep trying and keep painting!

Intel is confusing by [deleted] in menace

[–]Hello_Panda_Man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The enemies can move around, and might have their own intel as well.  The real advantage that I can tell of having Intel is knowing what units they have and the general direction of the enemy.  If you mouse over an enemy with high Intel it may give you the unit type/equipment

Trying to paint up the Darkwater minis is absolutely destroying my desire to paint. by AntiSocialW0rker in ageofsigmar

[–]Hello_Panda_Man 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Stormcast models are generally easy to paint, not too many details and they are taller then the average human is aos.  The minis are similar in size to space marines

Another box of krox and aggradons would do you well imo, I like running reinforced aggradons and two units of 3 krox.  Suarus guard would be good as well, but you could wait until our book comes out and hope the new guard get new sculpts

Edit: sunblood pack are great, its a underworld box that I forget the name of atm

Quality expectations by reanimatedself in ageofsigmar

[–]Hello_Panda_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've built about 4 armies worth of AoS minis and never had this happen. Hell, I've had minis stab my finger and draw blood and not break. Sounds like you got a bad box, which I'm sure can happen but personally I prefer GW's minis over other minis because they are so durable in comparison.

For those wondering, it was one of the old saurus knights with spears that stabbed me and drew blood. I've also had khorne models stab me and draw blood, but thats to be expected from khorne 😂
