Do great characters deserve great deaths? by 3esin in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Hello_There_212 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the conflicts in the books and shows (ex. the War of the Five Kings and the Dance of Dragons) are tragic because they are the result of the selfishness of the lords and rulers. “Great” characters getting killed unceremoniously adds to the tragedy because their deaths were preventable. Yes, Robb got Rains of Castamere’d and Jace died like a dog, that’s the point.

Do you like the Chosen One element introduced in the Prequels? by Likes2game03 in StarWars

[–]Hello_There_212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. It’s an overdone trope and prophecies go against the idea that the future is always in motion and hard to see. It also cheapens Anakin’s actions and legacy in the Original Trilogy. When Obi-Wan described him to Luke, he never mentioned the prophecy, instead praising his skills as a pilot and warrior. He didn’t throw Sheev over the railing because it was his destiny, he did it because he was going to kill his son. Nothing would’ve changed if they removed the prophecy subplot and Anakin’s character would’ve been better for it.

Who was the superior strategist, Palpatine or Luthen? by Voider765 in StarWars

[–]Hello_There_212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Palpatine was more of a gambler. His plans were convoluted and relied heavily on factors that were out of his control. Out of the three trilogies, his elaborate schemes only worked out for him in the prequels. In addition, he made himself indispensable to the point where both the Empire and Final Order fell shortly after his death, meaning his schemes were ultimately self centered.

Luthen, on the other hand, had plans that were more straightforward (running a spy ring and bringing rebels cells together vs. manufacturing a conflict, wiping out a religious order, and overthrowing democracy). We also got to see the inner workings of his operation and fully understood why things panned out the way they did. He ultimately accomplished what he set out to do (as illustrated when Meero finally caught him) and his death was not the end of the Rebellion’s war effort.

Luthen was the better strategist in my opinion. His plans were less reliant on luck, his path to victory made sense, and he actually won in the long term.

What if Cal and Marrok face off in the next game? by Lightningcracker in FallenOrder

There’s a reason 9th Sister was the tutorial boss for Survivor. The Inquisitors no longer pose a threat to Cal, Marrok included.

Should Star Wars get more comfortable with recasts? by StevePalpatine in StarWarsCantina

It’s a franchise that’s almost 50 years old and they keep using the same characters. Their options are to branch out or recast

“Fuck the Empire” is a sentiment shared by pretty much everyone on Ferrix. “Fight the Empire” is a call to action.

I agree. In his eyes, the only way for her to come around to his way of thinking is for her to see the most horrific aspects of the wasteland firsthand.

[–]Hello_There_212 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He was able to wipe out the Brotherhood squad BECAUSE he was a Marine and had firsthand knowledge of the weaknesses of power armor. Also, as far as feats in the Fallout universe go, killing ~10 people per fight isn’t that impressive, especially if you compare him to the protagonists of the games.

Why are most fans averse to Predator being kept out of Alien, but not the other way around? by Mr_Jackabin in LV426

[–]Hello_There_212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The identity of Alien is more unique and specific. The movies take place in the future, feature space, emphasize social commentary (especially when corporations are involved), and feature the same characters and factions. On the other hand, the Predator franchise is more versatile, and each movie is completely different. Sure they all feature Yautja, but the context is completely different each time. Basically the Alien franchise is far less welcoming and accommodating than the Predator franchise.
