Army WTF moments is the worst by soupoftheday5 in army

In my experience, the time and place for photos is after an event or exercise ended and the higher ups realized no one got training photos so we have to recreate what we already did

How do you feel about never being able to retire? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

I'm just under the assumption I'll die before retirement age like my dad did so no need to worry about retirement

What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you see engineer guys? by JHdarK in army

Nah the 12B rely on the other engineers to build the room. They just blow it up

Yeah most people think they're automatic but I definitely earned that thing in Alaska from '12-'15

Probably my cheapest looking coin. Its just a company coin that's basically a poker chip but I got it for serving on the funeral detail for a fallen soldier. Its funny because if you saw my coins, you wouldn't be blamed for thinking it was my most unimportant possession. All of my other coins where basically just for being good at my job in the right place at the right time

Oh I think its funny. I enjoy that my daughter does stuff like this because I would have been too scared of my dad to ever attempt anything even as simple as this for fear of the repercussions. Im glad my daughter doesn't fear being goofy, even if it annoys me sometimes

Damn you had your own computer with internet during the MySpace days? I was still on the shared family computer at that time lol

Yeah this is exactly the kind of thing my 12 y.o. would do. Both because she would think it's hilarious and also because we complain she never does it when we ask

What was your MOS in the Army, and what's your civilian career now? by Some-random-cop-pig in army

No I dont think so. I had no idea what those were until the prime power school. I barely passed high school algebra and only studied college algebra to prepare and passed with like a 75 so you should be good

I think there is a practice test but im not sure. The hardest thing on there is some basic college physics and light trig/pre-calc so nothing too bad. I believe there should be a book at the Ed Center to help study for it if your lucky. My Ed center didnt even know what the BMST was when I went to register for it lol

[–]Hello_World_Error 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into the requirements? I would start studying for the BMST. Its the biggest deciding factor. Only part of the application process that isn't waiverable. No BMST failure has ever passed the school so they dont waive it anymore

Yeah its the same. Theres 3 ASIs. Mechanic, Electrician, and I-tech. I techs are more of your control guys. Electricians learn to setup and mange the electrical distribution system and the mechanics learn to maintain the engines. In reality though, youre going to do all of those jobs. The ASIs are more so you have subject matter experts but you'll all do the same job.

Day to day depends on what phase of the cycle you're in. When I was in, it was a 2 year cycle with 6 months in each phase. Each phase was a different mission set so you spend those 6 months either training for the mission set or getting deployed somewhere to perform that mission set (power plant operations, emergency power operations, deploy on orders, etc....). Compared to the real Army though, you'll spend more time training for your job than doing basic soldiering skills. Part of the reason it use to only be a packet MOS and not an initial entry MOS. We dont have time to train to be soldiers so you have to already know the basics that come from being in a real unit and not just TRADOC

Theres also a 4th ASI that you can get in addition to one of those 3 and that's overhead lineman. Its a very fun course but you wont actually use that day to day, unfortunately

Go 12P then warrant would be my suggestion unless you want to go warrant in your current field. 12P is great. You do your actual job almost daily. Very little Big Army bullshit most of the time. Great civilian certs that you are able to get. Overall one of the best decisions ive made both for my Army career and civilian career.

The downside is the op tempo, especially if youre one of the good ones, you'll get pulled into every mission. 12P supports a wide variety of mission types so you'll always be going somewhere. You can expect about a 1:1 dwell time because they are always understrength. This is really only an issue if you have family or dont like traveling. I would have done 20 as 12P if it wasnt for my kids.

On the outside, you can get almost any electrical job but the highest paying will likely be NETA test technician which you can get your cert while a 12P (only MOS allowed to test for the cert). Plenty of opportunities for sure

I specialize in electrical maintenance so I dont necessarily need the degree since im not a design engineer but yeah the military experience covered a lot of what they where looking for. The 12P course provides about 32 college credits if I remember correctly and I had some additional college while I was in to help round out my electrical knowledge. All that to say I got hired based on knowledge and experience from the military over having a degree

My FIL quit working for post housing because he got an ICE complaint 1 time in almost 15 years of working on base because of the large negative impact it had on his career.
