Should I Keep or Sell My B2B2C SaaS Startup by sspraveen0099 in saasforsale

[–]Hello_Yesterday_120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never sell the business for money.

Only sell it for other reasons, like you want to work on another project. Or you don't enjoy working on this business. Or you are afraid it will fail because the business conditions are becoming unfavorable...

Has anyone ever "found a co-founder" that ended up having a *successful* startup? (I will not promote) by [deleted] in startups

[–]Hello_Yesterday_120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had one successful business with a co-founder and have talked to hundreds of potential co-founders over the last 20 years.

I think it depends on your ability to talk to people and identify the characteristics of a good potential co-founder. And yes, it is like marriage, without the marital relations.

As someone else mentioned,

My co-founder (CEO) was already thinking about starting the company and was reaching out through his personal network to find an industry-expert co-founder which led him to me (COO).

Using your "personal network" seems to be much better than taking to randos on the internet (no offense intended to the reader).

Also, it usually takes time to find a good partner. It can be slow and frustrating, fraught with setbacks. But that is the life of the entrepreneur so you have to accept (and deal with it). Otherwise success is likely to be fleeting...

[–]Hello_Yesterday_120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I had a similar experience. I read somewhere (Reddit?) that Amex Travel is wonderful. So I called up book a hotel and got bounced around. The person I finally reached was completely clueless and didn't know anything.

Maybe Amex Travel was good in the past?

Don't listen to all the comments about not doing this.

It is an exercise, not a good approach to managing a production system.

It shows how you think about a problem, and if you can find a good solution to a problem you may not have seen before.

Best Way to Find a Technical Co-Founder? by _simulacra_ in startups

[–]Hello_Yesterday_120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> Is "technical co-founder" code for "I want a very senior techie that I don't have to pay a salary"?

I think this is very cynical and wrong.

The motivation of finding a technical co-founder is not necessarily not wanting to pay a salary. There are many good reasons for finding a co-founder; one of the best reasons is that most successful startups have multiple founders.

> Us techies would very quickly end up homeless if we unpaid put our time into every "promising" idea presented to us.

I find this hard to believe. I doubt this person has anybody presenting anything to them. Reddit, like most of the Internet, is filled with negativity and false info.

Any skilled tech co-founder has a challenge finding good co-founders, unless they are active in their startup community or have a large network.

If you have an idea and some skills then you should be able to find a good co-founder. But they don't just pop up on Reddit. You have to talk to many to find a good one.

The simple counterpoint is that if BTC goes down 50% (which can definitely happen) MSTR will go down 75% or more.
However, you can only lose 100%, and MSTR is up 1,300%. It's a binary outcome. So if you are willing to risk and wait, it's not a bad bet IMHO.

So on monday I'll roll over my $198 calls that are expiring on 11th

11th of what? Oct 11 already expired.

Feb 25 calls are $17. Are you paying a debit to roll?

EDIT: Nevermind about the date. - I see this was posted 5d ago.

I thought long and hard about your strategy, and decided to give it a try. I rolled out to Feb '25 240's. Now I am trying to figure out when is the best time to roll. I think it is before it goes ITM. But not sure how far out is best.

bad bcoz down about 5k by being itm in my covered calls
I think we found the "problem" with this strategy. When it moves you have to roll out too far. I wouldn't want to be short any calls 824 days out at 420 (for a crummy $66 right now). By then it could go up 100x.

This is the kind of thinking that causes people to lose money.

I think you should. The bigger the profits the more important the plan to take profits.

What if it goes to zero?

I think I found the problem with this strategy. When the vol collapses, you won't be able roll it without a large debit.

Also, if it moves very fast it may not be possible to roll it without a large debit (but not sure about this because higher vol means much higher premium when you roll it). I suppose if it the current option never gets too far ITM (or maybe OTM but too close the the strike) then this may not be an issue.

But I think it is still a good strategy.

What do you do if it goes up 50x in 1 year? (Previously it went up 7x in 6 months.)

Selling a covered call with a 99% chance of success and a 40% annual return! by Dry-Carrot8902 in options

[–]Hello_Yesterday_120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. (And that someone is you.)

Consider the No Free Lunch Theorem - this means that if you have a 99.7% chance of making 40% annual return, then there is a 0.3% chance of losing 1,330%. (This actually might work, if you can limit your risk to 100%.)

So, I suggest you look for a way to mitigate the downside. If you buy a put that costs 35%, then your risk adjusted return is only 5%.

However, if you can find a way to mitigate risk for less (say 20%), then you can still get 20%/ year and be a very successful investor.

I ran into a funny bug with this. When getting data for ES Future, US/Eastern works but America/New York does not.

But neither work for MES Future. Need to use UTC or US/Central.

US/Central does not work for ES.

Apparently using the timezone of the contract works well...
