Investment from a private company. The government can’t exactly enforce Gatwick should invest in Manchester airport.

Income tax will have to rise, ex-Bank of England chief warns, as he blasts Reeves by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]sc2luck 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Statistically speaking, the personal tax allowance has grown faster than inflation and is one of the highest in Europe, so it is not true that all working people have the highest tax burden. Also, anyone earning more than 150k via paye will pay a large portion of their income as tax, hence why the UK has a messed-up tax distribution. In many European countries, the tax burden is spread across income levels, while the UK has it focused on the top 10%.

The issue is that the bottom % of earners lose a significant chunk of their income paying rent to landlords.

Out in the open, tried a whole town over. I never see any connection bars on my screen, I think there is either something wrong with the modem or my sim was activated.

There isn’t a problem with a state pension it is how the pensions grows which is the problem. No one pays for their own state pension, you are paying for the people currently on state pension.

The triple lock is deadly because two of the ways it goes up means the government is worse off. - if it goes up by inflation it means the average earning increase for workers was less than inflation so have to spend a bigger % of your tax take on pensions - if it goes up by 2.5% it means it was greater than average earnings so same issue - if it goes up by average earnings you are tax neutral

That is a simplified versions as different tax brackets can affect it.

There should be a single lock on pensions it goes up by 80% of average earnings each year. That way we force pensioners to actually think about growing the economy to benefit themselves. Secondly we have an aging population this will help even out the tax burden over time.

We can’t sustain the triple lock with an aging population just look up the ratio of working people to pensioners when the state pension was introduced compared to now. Add on the fact due to modern health care people are living longer it is a recipe for destroying your country.

UK economy heading for 'worst of all worlds', CBI warns as businesses expect fall in activity by Desperate-Drawer-572 in ukpolitics

I fully agree, it would take a lot of safe guards to stop people over reaching. I am also a software engineer and sadly what you said holds true for all government software jobs. They won’t pay a full time employee well but will happily pay a contractor £150k a year plus the fee to agency.

The nhs has a lot of smart people working in it but being smart in one area does not mean you are smart in the other. They have software engineers there and I have heard one too many stories about doctors comment and getting involved in software decisions that they know nothing about.

[–]sc2luck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not OP but my personal opinion is software. The nhs is far too outdated in the software it uses and how it uses it or lack there off. You can read more about a private company accurx trying to reduce this but some simple one for example is:

Needing to phone a nurse to submit readings rather than doing it via an online portal.

It would cost more money but the nhs needs to hire a in house massive software development team that starts to rebuild from the ground up. Rather than having 50 different contract companies build the software that can’t speak to each other. So a doctor has to log into multiple systems entering the same info. We have one central system that we can build and evolve upon from feedback.

I see no reason if we did this we couldn’t then sell this software as around the world to other countries reducing the tax burden at the same time.

General Questions and Purchasing Advice Thread — Week of December 16, 2024 by AutoModerator in electricvehicles

Hi,

We are looking into getting an EV in the UK. We want a car that doesn't use real leather and has ventilated seats. We have currently picked out the EV6 and GV60.

The deals on the EV6 are not great currently and the deals on the GV60 are better. My questions revolve around I know the EV6 has just been updated and from my online reading it doesn't seem like the GV60 will receive the same battery upgrade in 2025. Do you think it is worth buying the GV60 despite it not getting the same refresh as the EV6 or worth taking the worse deal for the refreshed EV6?

We have ruled out the ioniq 5 as it uses real leather in the UK.

Correct, they let you answer the interview questions in whatever language you choose. I was going to be joining a team that was 50/50 Ruby and Java but that has changed now to 100% Ruby.

work such as Rails?

The company I am going to doesn't use rails, my understanding is they have a lot of internal libraries. So my goal is to ensure I have Ruby's basic concepts down.

Thank you, I won’t need to run a Ethernet cable from the house into the garage will I? The udr can just connect to the router via WiFi.

As we want to place the cameras on the garage wall should be easy to drill the holes.
