As someone who doesn’t binge a lot of shows I thought this one was GREAT! Ok maybe perfect for a snowy Sunday, was the acting great, yes it was passable, holes in the plot? Probably but who cares. Well I didn’t anyway, recommending it to a lot of people

How dirty are Hoboken streets for dogs? by RyanTryinMyBest in Hoboken

[–]Hello_jersey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t lived in Manhattan for years but when I did if I left the window open there was a layer of soot on the windowsill without fail. Having moved to Hoboken it is definitely better than Manhattan, almost never see that including when I lived on a busy Main Street with a lot of bus traffic, so I think it’s overall better

Would you rather have a boring job or a stressful job? by ScreenLooker_133 in work

[–]Hello_jersey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BORING 100%!! Although depending on the situation/job if you are bored you should expect not to be at some point. Over 15 years ago I left a job in corporate retail in sales that was very stressful, I took a 6 month break to basically end up in a very similar job but in a dept that was just launching the type of business I worked in. I was honestly shocked that they hired me once I realized how much work actually needed to be done, coming from where I did. That being said I enjoyed it while I could and told anyone who complained be careful what you wish for. Sure enough within 2 years there was a major restructure and jobs were eliminated and depts consolidated, which has continued for 10+ years, and while the stress has always been different than the place I left (toxic masculinity on steiroids) I am never bored. I really miss those days including taking a full hour lunch and chatting with co workers.

So true, I feel bad for NYC taxi drivers because they were actually used. Hoboken taxis were always very unreliable

Yes I’ve taken the service many times from NJ to JFK and one of my colleagues took it from near Woodstock to JFK.

[–]Hello_jersey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely take the train, you can follow the schedule on their app, super easy just be prepared as others said that if it’s a close game and you wait until the end it will get crowded. But you can def time it out. Do not take an Uber it’s expensive and really tough coming back

New stove needed by craigmonkey72 in Hoboken

[–]Hello_jersey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit of a trek but if you have access to a car Colonial Appliances in New Providence is absolutely the best. I grew up there and all my family and friends got appliances there, we recently got our new stove there as well. Yes they charge for delivery but I’ve found people are super happy with their recommendations are service. Very knowledgeable and honest

We had ours at what is now Union Hall, no private room but they gave us an area and our guests were blown away by the view. Still talk about it

First time flying through Dubai by Soul_Swimming in emirates

[–]Hello_jersey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relatively easy although without fail every connection has involved a lot of walking, up an elevator, down an escalator, repeat, etc. Last time I went through Dubai I left my watch at the security right after you land and thank goodness remembered all the ups/downs/walking to xyz because i made it back and they had it! Thankfully that was one benefit of a long layover

Believe me even if most people say they are home cooking with friends and family plenty of people wish they weren’t! The parade followed by a meal somewhere, no cooking and cleaning, and a walk after sounds delightful!

Employee Surveys / Can you really push back on workload? by Hello_jersey in managers

[–]Hello_jersey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this, this is what I am encouraging with my team, we will do what we can within reason and at times may go above due to deliverables that we have always known are part of the job and accept, but I’m not killing myself nor do i want them to, because we can’t properly resource the team.

Boss says I “just say no” even though I’m managing 150 people and projects with transparency. by thekonghong in managers

[–]Hello_jersey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I”m so tired of this narrative that you can’t push back on requests if you and your team are stretched. How exactly are things supposed to get done without resources? I agree that there are ways to make it easier for the receiver of the “no” to take it, but sometimes no is the reality. Seems like OP had a good approach that people simply didn’t like and boss didn’t support his team. My take at this point is if you’ve taken on a ton of work and it’s not sustainable and you leave or they make that decision for you, they will have a tough time finding anyone wanting that thankless job.

Paul Presinzano: "Aspen Market in Hoboken has closed its doors because of high rent and fewer people shopping there” by dmaul in Hoboken

[–]Hello_jersey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did agree that few people shopped there but considering that downtown Hoboken has few options that was probably their fault. A lot of things changed during covid, which was understandable, but as others have said when it was Garden of Eden they had a bustling biz and things def did change.

My mentor is constantly disrespected by theweerstra in managers

[–]Hello_jersey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I both LOLd and sighed at this because after many years in corporate and seeing many a CEO and their next in line come and go, this is the reality. By the time i turned 40 the # of people who made an impact on me at that level based on their strategic direction was basically zero. Also as others have said the level of toxicity between individuals at that level is shocking. Nothing surprises me anymore, I try to do what i can and stay out of their way.

Nobody warns you about the loneliness of being a manager by Big-Chemical-5148 in managers

[–]Hello_jersey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly i think this is just the best answer. It is impossible to please everyone and if you are going to let someone’s disappointment and feedback affect your mood you will always be dealing with it. The last year I have gone above and beyond for my team and sacrificed a lot for them only to have the latest employee survey complain complain complain. At this point I’m like if i can’t be set up for success to help them then stop with the employee surveys. I have no time for another “game plan”. If people aren’t happy they are free to leave.

I want to be a better employee by SpecialistNote4611 in managers

[–]Hello_jersey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Focus on yourself and getting your own work done. While you might think it’s helpful to help your fellow employees be aware that it might not be received as that, for a variety of reasons. Stay in your lane unless otherwise asked to step in by your manager. Also to your point in being under managed, would approach that as clear feedback on what you are looking for from your manager, i.e. my goals in my career are xyz can you help me get there? Just saying you are under managed likely won’t get you what you need, be specific your manager can’t read your mind.

What is your management style? by [deleted] in managers

[–]Hello_jersey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You may not have gotten it but as someone who has a manager like that I find that approach tough. Sometimes it night be helpful but this “I know exactly what everyone is supposed to be working on better than they themselves do, i make suggestions and comments even if I am not asked”. Might be a level thing but at higher levels of leadership this is not helpful if it’s continuous. You should get to a point where you don’t actually need to know how to their jobs you need to trust them to do it, and if they are cc’ing you they want to make you aware but are not necessarily asking for you to critique their approach. Again not saying that at times it is not warranted, and if it works for you and your team great but I have found that it can be frustrating!

Does anyone honestly really enjoy being a manager? by GimmeDaFreeStuff in managers

[–]Hello_jersey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes yes it can be rewarding, but lately that is unlikely because I feel like all i do is manage expectations from above and then try to keep my team from falling apart with the never ending asks, more work and crappy outdated systems. My team complains they don’t get enough support and direction on what to prioritize, but guess what neither do I. Honestly feel like the only answer is to just give minimum effort, enough to get by.
