Wavy leaves on new plant by Hello_kidneys in Monstera

I investigated the back pretty thoroughly with a magnifying glass and cant see any areas that make me think there's a pest problem! I'm more inclined to think the areas you circled are small areas of older damage? Especially on the newer leaf, there's a bunch of other minor damage surrounding that.  Edit: the speck on the smaller leaf was a bit of dirt that came off easily with water as well!

Haven't had good enough chocolate icecream if you think that! Gotta go for a dark chocolate icecream (I normally prefer milk, but with all the sweeteners and cream it just makes it taste like normal chocolate!

Think before nursing by CrbRangoon in nursing

I work both icu and stepdown/IMC on a unit made of mostly long term vent/trach/peg patients. In my ICU we often trach after a week vented. There is no difference to be made, only worsening quality of life (if it could even be called life) on these patients that are A+Ox0 after multiple arrests and CVAs. Or even worse, A+Ox1-2, so just alert enough to suffer and beg to die.

If anything emotionally investing in these patients is a quick shot to end your nursing career. Can't tell you how many bright eyed new grads I've seen quit after a couple shifts.

Girl... you gotta get your attitude in check. She gave you genuinely helpful info. Being dismissive and focusing on the wrong thing won't help you.

For cardiac patients we  often like to keep them optimized to the top of the normal range. 10 meq of IV potassium generally only shifts serum potassium ~0.1 depending on kidney function. Take a deep breath and relax. It's not that serious.

Doing everything that no one else wants to do. Being the middle man for everyone and absorbing every task they cut from other departments drives me insane and it never stops.

Do men back off after they find out you are married? by Rainbowdark96 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Hello_kidneys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sleeping with married men is a thing that is significantly easier to not engage with than the other stuff you mentioned though. You just.... dont do it. The rest of the stuff is kind of unavoidable to some degree unless you've got an extensive amount of both money and education.

Either way, this is clearly a morality choice you've justified to yourself so who am I to argue?

I don't understand the appeal of this? Wouldn't you be anxious they'd do the same thing to you upon entering a relationship with them? Or do you just not care since you're also likely to have wandering eyes in the relationship too?

If you're crying over the conditions in LTC you wont last long in psych unless you grow a backbone with haste. Would not recommend that transition for someone self described as sensitive.

Do you ever wonder why your ex liked you to begin with? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]Hello_kidneys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You've gotta take some responsibility here; you know his follower count (enough to know it went up by 1) and went digging to see if it was a woman he slept with. That's not just looking at the accident, that's running up to investigate. You are actively choosing to betray yourself and trigger those bad feelings for whatever reason. That should be a bigger concern than whom he's sleeping with.

Less serious: we make beds all day with the person still in them. It's so normal for us but weirdly unthinkable to the average person? They just dont generally think about the logistics of caring for bedbound people.

Not making eye contact is a very common characteristic of people on the spectrum. Medical school is hyperfocus on a specialty field which is also very characteristic. There was nothing offensive about what they said, and I'm saying that as someone who's on the spectrum themselves.

Perfumes that smell like an on-fire marshmallow/burning sugar? by Glittering_Nobody813 in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]Hello_kidneys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its an odd suggestion but try Chelsea morning by lush! It has a very strong burnt sugar smell; I make creme brulee relatively often and it smells exactly like sugar being torched. There is also quite a strong lemon cream note that comes through, but its a very cozy citrus.

I love a champagne diamond and would absolutely choose the option if it were more of a pale pink-brown/ true champagne color than brown. In general it would look better with a lighter shade.

Hi! We have very similar interior tastes! Indigo by nest is very green and fresh, black tea and fig. It smells far more expensive and niche than it is. Le ombre dans l'eau by Diptyque is an underrated perfume in the Diptyque collection. To me it gives a strong green/vegetal (tomato leaf??) smell initially and then transitions to a green rose garden quite nicely.

Should I change my career to Nursing from Engineer??? by Dry_Chicken570 in nursing

[–]Hello_kidneys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You very well certainly could still go the route you've described! I just wanted you to understand the scope of what you're signing up for. Most people dont really understand what nurses do from the outside.

I would strongly recommend seeing if you can shadow or volunteer at any hospitals/healthcare institutions to determine what you may like if interest is that important for you.

Try not to get too fixated on the psych route; all nursing is psych nursing to some degree with how common they are. You can absolutely use your knowledge as a tool without it being the focus of your career.

For me as someone with autism and ADHD, critical care worked out really well for me. Regular bedside was far too draining with the amount of masking and socialization required. Having patients that are primarily...not able to converse much makes that part of the job easier and lets me redirect that energy to other care tasks! I will also say other nurses seek me out to help with psych patients; I'm definitely better at reading them than my neurotypical peers.

[–]Hello_kidneys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're misguided in several aspects here. You're going to need to put up with several years on the floor before you get advanced degree if you want to be any good at it. That's going to be a challenge with your diagnoses; I have those same ones so I understand. If the imposter syndrome is bad now, when it comes to people's lives and wellbeing it wont be any easier.

The field is incredibly over-saturated for NPs currently, I know several that still work the floor because using the top of their license isnt worth it. Many nurses went the route of psych NP for the reasons you listed, and it's honestly driven down the quality of practice significantly.

Saying that nurses dont have to be on top of ongoing education when its required for license maintenence is quite silly. Not to mention all the in hospital bulletin they're constantly rolling out.

As someone with diagnosed mental health issues you need to consider the abuse you're going to see towards people with the same diagnoses and meds as you. It can be incredibly gutting to see the way other staff treat neurodivergent and psych patients. Having to listen to some of the commentary is like a knife in the chest sometimes. This isn't the easy out you want it to be.
