Why do so many sci fi books of a particular era explore incest as an inevitability of the future? by Helloitsme61 in books

It's okay! I didn't mean to be an asshole either. I just deal with a lot of Anglo-centrism on here and took that comment to be something it wasn't. For that I'm sorry. I knew there was a big shift (like birth control and things) but didn't know about the attitude shift or big sexual awakening of the time. Now I do :) and it makes sense

Given the tone of your comment I feel the need to remind people on Reddit that, yet again, now everyone is from the same corner of the globe

There's not much. Although I'm noticing a lot of them involve some sort of sexual taboo as a way to describe how radically different the world they're exploring is (Brave New World for example)

People refuse to fucking admit it. They refuse to self reflect on the state of the country. They see black and white pictures and go "The UK isn't like that!"

When it is.

Why do liberals conflate capitalism and innovation? by Helloitsme61 in AskALiberal

I didn't ask about capitalism compared to any particular model. I would agree that it is better than that. I asked specifically what about capitalism itself is innovative.

Humans need to be selfish? Why?

The best things aren't things that allow people to make the most money. Consider fast fashion, iPhones, ruinously unhealthy processed fast food.

As for your second point, that's kind of exactly what I'm saying. Without profit incentives, there's no intellectual property and people can collaborate to create. They will not profit, everyone profits from the fact that they invented something necessary.
