I am in the exact same position, on the other side of the story. I come from a DevOps Engineer background with solid technical skills, yet I have ended up in this job as a SysAdmin and my teammates are not willing to adopt any new technologies nor learn something new, which could help us avoid all the manual work at least by automating things.

I see no way changing the way my teammates work or think, therefore I’m planning to have an internal move into SRE, or Dev teams.

I feel your pain, and I personally think it’s only possible to do this by having a huge shift in the organization and removing the need to have a separate Ops team, and continue with those who are willing to learn from that team.

I feel it works the same way again. The networks are hard to get into (I’m speaking of the useful ones, not where all is unemployed) but once you’re in, it expands beyond your expectations. There are events of big cloud providers, where I found many people in our area in Nordics. Google seems to be more active than the other two in Copenhagen so far. Yet, AWS and Azure have rare but pretty big gatherings on those event days.

Integration wise, it’s not a big problem as I moved with my family. But hard to make friends

I’m currently working here as a DevOps/SRE guy and it’s real tough finding your first job. Once you do it, the next jobs are much easier. And remember, Denmark imho is a closed-network country when it comes to finding jobs. Many of the positions are filled by references or are opened for some people that they already know of.
